Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
So, question. This may have been answered already, and if so, I'm sorry. Please direct me to the post containing the response and feel free to lock this thread up.
I'm wondering about the exotic abilities like fortitude and 5% stats. Do they function like the player spells, insofar as they are an instant cast buff with a duration, or are they more like auras, i.e., our pet needs to stay alive and active for the buff to be applied.
I'm curious because in my Cataclysm ten man, we're not going to have a paladin or a druid, and I'm wondering if I can pull out my shale spider, cast 5% stats, and then switch him for a different pet of choice, something ferocious or cunning. I'm thinking that'd be a bit overpowered, though, so I'm assuming these pet player-buffs will work like auras?

Re: Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
Before the last patch push, I had tamed a shale spider for a brief period of time. The stat buff looked to be operating like the imp's HP buff - in other words, you had to have the spider out and the ability activated for it to be giving the buff. I don't know if something changed during the last big push...but prior to the "Puppy" push, that's how it worked.

Re: Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
The crit buff from devilsaurs/wolves and the str/agil buff from spirit beasts/cats needs to be cast by the pet in order to stay up. The duration is longer than the cooldown, so it should always be up, and autocast seems to work fine.
The silithid fort buff, however, is like the imp stam buff - it stays up all the time. So I guess your results may vary, depending on which ability you're looking at!

Still, I'm 100% sure they'd fix it if you could summon a pet, buff the raid, then summon another pet without the buff disapearing, as that surely doesn't sound like working as intended to me.

Re: Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
The stat buffs require that the pet be out for them to activate. They will go away if you mount or dismiss your pet. As long as your pet is out however, the buff is passive, much like an Imp.

Re: Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
Well....sorta.
Let's take puppy lust as an example. You can call your corehound pet, bloodlust, abandon the puppy, and still have the blust buff.
Looking at the raid buffs previously mentioned in the thread, the silithid buff would disappear the moment the pet does. If a cat were dismissed mid-combat, the roar of courage buff would remain for the amount of time the buff had left on it, but would not be refreshed when it fell off. It's not worth "pet twisting" buffs, though. Too much time wasted.

Yeah, wasn't planning on pet twisting. If the fort and kings buff lasted thirty minutes, though, and were casts rather than auras (in other words, were just like the pally/priest versions are on live now) then you'd be able to buff the raid with your silithid or shale spider and then pull out another pet you enjoyed more. But like everyone said, that'd be a bit OP, I think.
Thanks, guys!

Re: Question: 5% stats/Fort buffs
And I think Blizzard designed those particular buffs to work like the imp one for EXACTLY that reason.
This was a cool train of thought to follow, regardless.
