I don't know what to do. My mother complained about my house because it's not as impeccable as her house, and threatened to take my dogs to the shelter. I'm shocked, hurt, and breathless. How could she attack me with my babies?

Ok well if its YOUR house in YOUR name and they are YOUR dogs, then if she does take your dogs she is liable under so many charges. I would not let her in your house again. Sorry but from what little info you just said your mom sounds like a ...ill play nice, a very mean person.

...wow...Yeah, don't invite her over again until she apologizes. If your dogs are happy, healthy, well fed/excersized, there is no reason to worry about them, even if the house is a little messy. Heck, I am not the best house keeper, but I do make sure that my Cat and my Baby are healthy, happy and well treated. And what Redith said!

I know first had that mothers can be...rude, controlling, hurtful when you have your own place...I am glad that my mom lives on the other side of the planet, I've come very close to severing my tie with her because of some of the things she's said and done...

Just tell her that if she chooses to live in a spotless house that is her choise, and you will live how you choose, and if she doesn't want to respect that, then she doesn't have to visit.

Seriously, if your house isn't impeccable, that's easily explained by having multiple dogs. Our house has gotten incredibly clean since we lost our two cats. Pets make houses messy, I think they can stand a little dirt and dust bunnies.

Seriously, your mother needs to butt out and apologise. Makoes is right, don't invite her over until she does. I'm sorry you're fighting with your mother, it's always hard.

I didn't invite her, she just barges in because she has the keys. Which means I have like, no privacy despite having my own place. I rent it from her, and she just acts like she owns me. What's worse is that I mentioned how depressed I was tonight, and she laughed it off and told me to 'get a grip' and to 'stop acting like a child'.

Sorry guys, btw. I just need to vent a little before I explode or collapse.

Know what I'd do in that situation? Tell her that you're moving away, and then get a pace of your own. She has NO right to do something like that!

Yeah, if you look into landlord/tenant regulations in your state, I'm fairly certain landlords need to announce visits 24 hours in advance. That's pretty standard.

It depends how much of a fight you want to take, but I have to agree with Saturo... being dependent on your mother like that is not healthy for you.

Pretty much what everyone else said is what I was going to say. A mother never stops mothering till her dying day even if it's not kind or loving.

Wow, I would just like to say "Welcome to my world". I know how u feel I was adopted by my grandmother and she sounds just like ur mother, I'm 25 and have my own apartment (she helps pay for it)and she barges in a lot, to tell me what a bad house keeper I am. I would do what everyone above me says, they all seem to have good ideas. Or do what I did, my grandmother is allergic to cats and I found a stray kitten. I'm keeping him, much to her dismay, problem solved no more uninvited guests that tell u that u need to clean more or else.

While she does have a certain say so, since she is your landlord, she is being more then a little rude about it. You are her tenant, and not just her daughter. She owes you respect, since you are a paying customer. If your dogs are well cared for, healthy, and happy, and as long as your apartment isn't a pigsty and unfit for habitation, she can't legally take your dogs from you.

sounds like my mom sometimes but how do you grow up if she treats you like a little kid ?

might wanna look for a place she dosent own i don't know how your situation is but i deffo would want the same respect from my mom as my land lord as any other human being

moms are hard to live with sometimes but we wouldn't exist without em besides if your old enough to live alone she should butt out you rent the place from her am guessing you pay rent aswell she cant really say much dunno what rules apply where you live but here we have a union for people living in rented apartments and they can complain there and get legal help if needed

anyway start looking for a place completely your own if she keeps threatening you tbh its strange she cant say stuff in a nice way first
