Yeah, that's why I mentioned the SM hyenas-now-mastiffs too. It just doesn't seem that Blizzard has fully considered that some of us really do love our little furry pixels and don't want them changed on us.Worba wrote:I'm sure you are right about Blizzard just focusing on the macro and missing the micro, so to speak... which is why I want to let them know some of us do care about the tag, so that they will reconsider what happens to existing pre-cata tames... because if they do decide to address this, it won't matter what is/isn't on the PTR.Kalliope wrote:There's only one problem with this idea, Worb: he's still a ?? raid boss on the PTR.So there will be an overlap period with the ?? boss tag and the 10s tame beast cast.
I don't think Blizzard is removing the boss tag to spite hunters; they're just changing BRS to no longer be a raid. I just don't think they realized (or necessarily cared) that a lot of hunters who put forth the effort to tame this guy like the ?? boss level.

I just wish that there's some way for it to be kept. For those of us who had to go through the work to tame him (and in a lot of cases a lot of gold spent) those with tamed beasts should be able to keep that badge of honor. It took me an hour and 400 gold to finally get mine and that's with help! The Beast was the hardest tame for me (so far) and I feel honored to see that ?? Boss tag. Yes he's still The Beast to me but that tag is proof of my achievement.

I know my thoughts have seemed ambiguous and I've been trying to think of a better way to explain what I meant. I think comparing The Beast to retired unique skins was where my point got muddled.
Instead I should have compared him to something like King Krush. In other words....if Blizzard were to add in an ordinary Green Devilsaur skin, would people be upset that their King Krush was no longer immediately recognizable as a hard tame, instead that it could be assumed it was the easier common creature?
That's pretty much what's happening with The Beast. Though there are other Red Corehound models, The Beast is proven to be that particular one due to the boss tag. Taking that away is akin to him looking like any other Red Corehound, meaning he's no longer a 'King Krush'. Yes, people could think he's just a regular MC Corehound, etc.
This is purely my personal opinion, I am not trying to sway other people nor am I saying the opposite is wrong. Anyways, I don't mind this scenario because I know my pet is The Beast. I know how much time and effort I put into taming him, how stressful and crazy it was, and the exhilaration after completion. No matter what someone else's thoughts are, they can't change that I tamed The Beast while he was difficult to get, and nothing can take that away. That means more to me than an outsider's views or opinions.
I love my Beast's boss tags. I'm a little sad he won't have them anymore, but in the long run it won't make a difference because he's still the same pet in my eyes, and he will always be The Beast to me. Again, I fully realize there are people who don't like something like a unique rare being made into a common skin (Araga and the Clutchmother come to mind for Cata, but my hypothetical King Krush situation also applies).
Does that make more sense? ^^; Retired pets are still something I'd rather not see in the future, but that's more of a different topic so I'll focus on why I'm not overly upset over Beast's boss removal.

I agree with you. I think people will complain no matter what happens. I'm just glad Beast is gonna still be around. I may just tame him for the sake of having him.Vephriel wrote:I know my thoughts have seemed ambiguous and I've been trying to think of a better way to explain what I meant. Lol, racing stripes.
I'll be honest, it was late last night when I started replying to you Worba, and I think my sleep-deprived mind was too distracted and therefore started veering off in all sorts of directions while trying to grasp for examples and ways to explain myself. I apologize for confusing you, so you can disregard my previous comments if you wish and address my latest post for clarification on the subject at hand.

The thing is though, we aren't talking about skins here - we are talking about a tag; Krush's sort of in the same ballpark I suppose, but here's the key difference - the people who are resisting having him "genericized" are also (not intentionally but still accomplishing same end goal), pushing for an entire skin to be reserved exclusively for the sort of crazy hunters who hang out in places like this.Vephriel wrote:Instead I should have compared him to something like King Krush. Whereas and here is where I feel TB "breaks the mould" of your Krush analogy, TB does have something that would allow existing 20 second tames to remain unique after a fashion, but without denying the skin to other hunters that will be showing up after the 10 second tame is implemented; titles after all are typically what is used to denote whether a unit has a special status...
But I respect where you are coming from on this, and we can agree to disagree.

*Other than giving him a boss tag as well, but I'm not gonna go down that road...

Only if everyone also gets to be a devilsaur - or a fire truck. With bells. I would totally go for that.Royi wrote:Veph ~ the answer is Racing Stripes.

okay don't know if this has been noticed before...the beast is more powerful then any other corehound.. he still has the boss mechanic which makes him always +3 lvls. he was 75 got him to a dungeon with 81-82 mobs...didn't see one miss.maybe that's the reason they want to nerf him
or maybe i just got extremelly lucky.

No, he still functions at normal level (check the stables). That's happened with my wolf, too, it's just luck.bluddy wrote:okay don't know if this has been noticed before...the beast is more powerful then any other corehound.. he still has the boss mechanic which makes him always +3 lvls. he was 75 got him to a dungeon with 81-82 mobs...didn't see one miss.maybe that's the reason they want to nerf himor maybe i just got extremelly lucky.

No, he really does attack at your lvl +2 - as an NPC. This is the main reason why taming him is so hard even at lvl 80, because his interrupts land almost at will.bluddy wrote:.....oh well guess i just got lucky then
This is how boss tags work with NPCs.
Once you tame him, he drops down to your level -5 and behaves like a normal corehound; at that point the boss tag is just for show.

Yeah you got lucky or maybe some buffs really helped because in live (I'm assuming you're talking of taming him in Cata?) I've never noticed any of my core hounds being better (for lack of a better word) then the other. The Beast was always a normal core hound after taming except his tag.
