*sigh* So ever since I got it in my head that I needed to tame Skoll, I've pretty much been sitting in Storm Peaks on Vephriel waiting for my NPCscan to go off.
It's dull work though....no one to chat with while I wait, just hovering in the air above the spawn points, blue proto drakes flying by.....
NPCscan basically 'scans' the ID's of any mobs that are nearby you. It's programmed to only alert you when a rare is spotted.
In order for it to work, though, you have to delete the Cache folder in your WoW folder. If something's been spotted once then it can no longer read that ID.
Anyways, as long as you remember to clear your Cache, when a rare is spotted the screen flashes red and a bunch of loud sounds are played. Really helpful, especially if you're falling asleep.
Right now I've got a laptop set up on my desk next to my screen which has my boyfriend's character logged in....so I can scout 2 of the 3 spawn points at once. :3
Load NPC_Scan on your system. Then log in. As soon as a rare mob comes in range, a popup will appear like an achievement. Click on it and you'll target the rare. Its got a good range, so every now and again the rare undead giant will show up for me when I'm in Dalaran.
And Skoll is best tamed by checking up on the areas. Do it at the right off-times and your success rate increases.
I don't really feel like this is so much the "Post-Modern" era as much as its the "Pre-Zombie-Apocalpse" era. I consider myself more of a forward thinking guy and an era that just won't die is just as feasible as a coming era, where the dead come back.
Ohh, that's incredibly handy! I should get that, I've just been spamming /tar skoll every few minutes. Don't you need your cache folder?
Mhmm, good idea.
I'd wait at all of the spawn points using my macbook, and two of my friends accounts. You do know that you can have 3 wow windows on 3 different accounts open at the same time, right?
Keep at it. It took me months of flying all over netherstorm to find Numeroc. At least you have spawn points and not flight patterns to trace.
Keep an eye out for Time-lost Protodrake while you're out there

Aw, good luck, Veph. It sucks just sitting around, waiting for them to come around.
No guildies to talk to while you wait? :< That has to be super lonely. While I was camping Arcturis, I kept the TV on to keep me occupied so I wouldn't go completely stir crazy. Good luck! You will find him, he's just taking his sweet ass time, haha ^.^

Npc Scan is a GOD/GODDESS send in trying to get any of the rares/spirit beasts! Plus if you decided to camp one spawn point you can sit there and alt tab here and there!
I'm camping at the cliff above the village since that seems to be the most common spot for him. I've got my boyfriend's character parked near the cave at Snowdrift Plains.
I just hope that Skoll doesn't decide to spawn at Bor's Breath, the only point I don't have covered. -.- It seems to be the least common spot though, so that's why I left it as the one uncovered.
I've got my Brown Prairie Dog out as good luck. *crosses fingers*
Vephriel, Why don't you watch a movie or something whilst you're waiting? If you're not next to or near one, you can always watch a DVD on your PC, or even online. It'll take your mind off of it. Or, if you prefer, read a book. That's what I'd choose to do, books keep you occupied for hours, and you get submersed in the story.
Haha, yeah I probably could just watch something while I wait. I get so paranoid of becoming too engrossed and missing the sound cue or something. xD Plus I have to make sure I don't go AFK and log out.
Honestly, it's better if you take your mind off of the taming for a little while, it'll mentally exhaust you.
As for missing the sound cue, just turn up the laptop volume to max volume, but the DVD player to low volume? That way, the DVD is at a normal sound level, but the sound cue will shock you, and you'll know to quickly flick to taming.
