Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
I guess I really don't care about unnamed pets (sometimes it takes me a damn long time to come up with a name) and cats named dog and such. Things like Lolbuttmunch make me roll my eyes. But in the end, it's whatever. I guess the most it ever does is make me roll my eyes. To each his own I suppose.
Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
I did have an all caps pet name: a crab named CRABBATTLE. I used him for PvP and didn't see any reason that he needed a serious name. =P
To note, you can report offensive pet names the same way you can report player names. If a GM sees a reason to change a pet's name, they are renamed Spot no matter what the specie is.
A rare visitor to this forum now that I don't play WoW anymore, but forever a Petopian.

Another time, I went through quite a few level 70 heroics on my mage and warlock alts with a hunter who had named his spider after himself. He said it helped in PvP, with allies having a harder time targetting him, but it just seemed egotistical to me.

Oh no, that's a legit arena strategy. But I agree, it seems egotistical, even if it IS practical, so I don't do it.Cerah wrote:Another time, I went through quite a few level 70 heroics on my mage and warlock alts with a hunter who had named his spider after himself. As for me...yeah, unnamed pets bug me, but I tend to leave a pet unnamed until I have just the right name for it. Usually that doesn't take too long, though. The one that just makes me /facepalm and want to walk away is "ImWithStupid." I can't explain exactly why apart from it being done to death. And yes, I do report inappropriate pet names just like I do inappropriate PC names.

I also can't stand names that are just dumb like butteater or imwithstupid. Yes, it's their pet and they can do what they want, but I'm also allowed to be annoyed by it.

Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
My Gondria spirit beast did walk around for a few days as "Spirit Beast" because I was waiting to find the right name. Now she's Zaniah and I'm glad I took the time to find the right name for her, even though she was an impulse tame, not a long search.
The one exception I have seen was a female orc hunter on my server, Idhitit, and each pet was named something along the lines of "withabat" or "withatruck." It made me giggle, and did show some thought put into the names. It also helped that I raided in a PUG with this person and he was competent and not jerky.
I die a little inside when I see a Loque spirit beast named "Imwithstupid."

Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
I saw some hunter with a wolf named "LilSexSoul". Just...what?

The ones named "Dog" "Cat" and "Bob" make me face-palm a little.
I'm honestly completely tired of seeing Skoll named "Sparky".

I don't mind seeing the occasional cute, funny name. One thing that tweaks me is people RPing as a "traditional" troll or something, like...supposedly a serious, in-character, lore-proper character...with a pet that's named after Pokemon or something silly like "Cuddlemuffin".

Sorry, I have trouble seeing your "vicious" Bloodscalp troll hunter running around with a turtle named Cuddlemuffin.

Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
But usually I try to use a name that is related to the type of pet. I have a Ironhide Devilsaur names Acutus. Acutus if the genus name of the american crocodile. When I had Skoll, he was named Dirus, for the Dire Wolf.

Bob the sporebat is a cult figure on Nesingwary and he has a lot of personality.

Repeat after me: it... is.. not... important.
Besides, it might be an homage to "Dog the Bounty Hunter"?
(By the way, this thread just gave me my Worgen toons' new names)
A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

Of course it's not important. That doesn't mean we can't have a conversation about it. Sure it annoys me. For the moment. It doesn't completely ruin my day and prevent me from sleeping at night. Everyone has their peeves, even you.Sukurachi wrote:There are SO many other things in this world that should be bothering you... honestly.. let it go.

Re: Cats named "Dog" (Rage thread!)
That's something else that annoys me -- non-hunters trying to tell me what pets to bring where.Gundo wrote:see this doesn't bother me at all....its the morons that clearly don't have a clue like bringing a bear or a cat into a raid...get a bloody wolf already you have 5 pet slots!!!
Yes, bringing a tenacity pet to a dungeon isn't the smartest idea, unless it's just temporary, like if Call Stabled Pet is on cooldown, or if you *need* the aoe, like with the iron dwarf swarm event in the Halls of Stone (Daggoth and Scorponok rock that event!). However, not everyone likes wolves. This whole "wolf or nothing" attitude in raids is frankly really annoying. The assumption that I make is that if a Hunter isn't bringing a wolf, they're bringing their favourite pet, one that they've played with for quite a while and know how to use effectively in instances. I'd rather see a hunter who knows what he/she is doing with a vulture, for example, over some noob with a wolf anyday!
