Rather than buy from a chain grocery store, try looking for local butchers. The animals are healthier and the meat looks and tastes a heck of a lot better (in my opinion). It costs more up front because you typically buy a half-cow (or a whole cow, depending on family size) for the whole year, but you can store it in a freezer and have it ready whenever you want it. It's economical, more humane towards the animals, and supports your local community's farmers/butchers. It's a win-win situation, really.
Especially true if you live in rural areas. I can imagine people living in cities having trouble doing this though.
Oh yeah, and PETA can go $%^# itself, they are a bunch of self righteous hipocrites.

Might be a bit off topic here, but everytime I see a PETA thread this image pops into my head.

And it still makes me chuckle at times.

Re: PETA Demotivation I made
I have no problems with vegetarians or vegans. My cousin is vegan and I love her to death. But I really, really, really hate PETA. They are almost anti-human in their actions. They think it's wrong to have pets and have stolen dogs from dog-shows before and euthenized them.
I'm sorry, but I would murder any of those bastards who dared to touch my babies. And I'd do it smiling. My dogs are treated better than some human children. They get the best food I can afford(Taste of the wild atm,(Grain/corn/soy/wheat free) and If I ever have the money, they'll be on a raw/natural diet. I spend a lot of time brushing them, dremmeling their nails, cleaning their ears/eyes, and bathing them. They get regular walks and I train them without force or punitive methods unless absolutely necessary.
So tell me, does that sound like an animal that's being tortured and would be better off euthenized? Because PETA would say so. If they would do that to show dogs, who are some of the most pampered and well-taken care of dogs there are, they would do it to anyone's dog.
To me, there not just dogs. They are like my children. By that same token, I don't treat them like human kids in fur coats, as that would be an insult to them. They are dogs, so they need exercise and mental stimulation. They need to be taught what you expect of them and they need to be taught fairly. Does that mean that you'll never have to correct your dog? No. But it does mean that you should reserve any and all punishment for only when necessary, like if your dog wanted to chase cars(something that could end their life), you should give them a correction, which could be as simple as a firm pop on their regular collar or as extreme as a pop from a prong collar(how hard depends on the dog) for trying to go after a car to show them that car chasing is bad and will get them punished. And you should praise them the second they stop looking at the car so they know that ignoring the car was the right thing to do. And you should never hit a dog. That serves no purpose than to fulfill your own anger.
I do use leash corrections when necessary, as I said. But I never punish a dog for not doing a trick or something trivial like that. I also never physically punish them for things like chewing on shoes. They're dogs, and they chew. I shouldn't have left the shoes on the floor. I will give them an "Aaaaaht!" in a loud voice and take the shoe or other thing away, and then offer them a toy that they can chew on, so they know what they should do.
I've spent a long time learning all I can about how dogs think and what they are trying to tell you with different gestures of theirs. I've spent years devoted to learning training methods that open a line of communication between you and your dog so that they can clearly understand what your trying to teach them. To have devoted so much time to learning their ways and making them happy and comfortable, it really irks me that PETA has the audacity to say that a creature that's been with us since almost the effing dawn of humanity shouldn't be with us anymore. Dogs arn't a wild animal anymore, and they havn't been for a long time. Can they live in the wild as a pack? Yes. So can humans. Some still do today in the small tribes that exist in parts of the world. I just watched a show on animal planet a few nights ago about a tribe that lived in a forest and hunted with their dogs each night.
That primordial bond has withstood the tests of time. Even when the majority of the populace no longer hunts in the darkness, most have still kept the dog by their side.
So anyways, TLDR version. I really hate PETA and they should DIAF and stop being pet-hating D-bags.

Re: PETA Demotivation I made
My only pet peeve with vegans is that most seem to think that all of those over processed veggie hot dogs, chicken tenders, and soy milks are healthy.
I call BS that an over processed (and overused, soy should not make up a large part of anyone's diet) fake meat meal is healthier than a slab of organic animal flesh.
Not. Buying. It.

People like me with Hypothyroidism(low thyroid function) can't even have soy! It is horrible for your thyroid. Also, it is extremely detrimental to cats and dogs when it's put in pet food. Most humans can handle it, but it really messes with their digestive system.
