A New and Terrible Addiction

So I've been running around on my Shaman madly collecting achievements since it's always been my Hunter that's been my achievement collector, but seeing as I'm switching to my Shaman as my main for Cataclysm, I want to get him somewhat caught up points-wise.

One of these easy ways I figured was to get some points via the vanity pet achievements. I just needed Plenty of Pets and that was easy, I just needed a couple. Then Plethora of Pets shows up, that's only 10 more, that's easy enough. That done, Shop Smart, Shop Pet...Smart pops up, oh, Reeking Pet Carrier, but that's 25 more of these things. But Stinker! The evening quickly passes as I quest, shop and farm Azeroth and Outland for mats for my better half to make me some Engineering pets... 49 pets. One more. Feralas, Sprite Darter. Off I go, fourth Darter I kill drops an egg, Shop Smart, Shop Pet... Smart done and Stinker is stinking up my mailbox.

Lil' Game Hunter and a Fawn Salt Lick is only 25 more pets? Looks long and expensive but... I'm hopelessly addicted and the Kennel addon is installed. At long last the vanity pets I have oft ridiculed have got their furry, webby, paws and claws and hooves into me and the addiction is in full swing. Is there a gray cat pet? I need one, then I'll have a cat pet matching each of my six cats!

Well, there's the Silver Tabby. He's got stripes, but he's technically still grey. No solid grey cats of of yet, though. By the way, if you haven't been to Warcraft Pets yet, I'd definitely recommend it. It lists all of the minipets available, where to find them, quirks about them, comments about them, the price or drop rate, and it lets you track your collection. Very handy for minipet enthusiasts. x)

I collected them as I leveled and now have 60+, still missing all the dragon whelps.

Haha yes, I know what you mean, Anansi! I was never really into minipets, just got a few as I leveled and whatnot... Then I realised I was only a few short of the 25 pet achievement, so I went and found out (on warcraftpets, which is AWESOME for finding info about them) which ones were easy to get. "Hm, what's that? An addon that lets me cycle through them? Great idea! Ooooh look at that one. It'll take some work, but dangit that's cute!" ... Long story short, I'm now at over 100 pets! It's an obsession.

WarCraft pets was my go-to when I realised that I was too far gone and couldn't turn back. I'm really amazed at how well done some of the pets are, like the Durotar Scorpion who stings you occasionally and you get a debuff that says "Stung by your ill-tempered scorpion". I had always just thought the pets were low-res thingers that did nothing, but some of these guys are fantastic. I do wish there was some consistency in the flying ones with regards to which fly in the air with you and which do not.

I'm not sure where to go for the remaining pets. I'll get Pengu from the Tuskarr today but other than that.. Looks like lots of grinding in my future! Hmm.. Czar of Sporreggar here I come?

Ah, the joy of minipet collecting. ^_^

I started out much the same as you did, Sarayana. At first I only had a couple, and just the ones that I really loved. Back when they were physical items it was harder to have that desire to 'catch them all' considering how much bag space they took up. It was really only after they were changed to spells that I started getting a bit more into them. Like you, I started getting the minor achievements which spurned a full out obsession. xD I have about...100 now I think. Still a few rare drops that are eluding me, but I definitely try to get every one possible.

I'm at the point where I'm rushing to WarCraft Pets to update new additions as soon as I get them. I fear the worst.

Oh I definitely do that too. As soon as I learn a new minipet I have to minimize game and go update my collection. :3

I only have 60 or so minipets on my most collected toon... but i have a slightly different obsession: I buy extras and mail them to all my alts as well. I do the same with mounts; buy all available ones on every toon.

Every time I look, I find another gap missing in my collection!

In this case, I hope you've been going crazy with the ram-riding in the Brewfest lately. You can easily get two pets out of that.

Yeah I got them. I'm currently one short of 75 (my Jubling egg is in the hatching process so that'll be 75 if I don't get anything else sooner). I really want the Captured Firefly, but no luck so far.

This bug is starting to me too now I'm busy farming for aotona's little mini version. Got 20 at the moment.
