old thought about the frostwyrms back from WotLK beta days

Unread post by MaximumOverdrive »

I know, it's old...

But originally, wasn't there gunna be a questline or something, for those who had a netherdrake, that it would get turned into a frostwrym? I remember seeing the frostwrym mounts in beta (was in beta for WotLK), and there was something about a quest in Icecrown that would've lead to yer drake going undead...

Anyone had any thoughts? Cause this would've been a cool idea.

Hmm, I never heard of that.

Currently Frostwyrms can be obtained through raiding achievements, and arena I think. Not sure if there was ever an alternative method,.

Used to have a vid on youtube about it, but I think it fell off the face of the internet.

Kinda interesting tho, I think Frostwryms are the only mounts you can't get another version of somewhere else except by an achievement...protodrakes come from various locations, regular drakes, netherdrakes from rep or arena (not anymore on arena tho)...then again, there are several incredibly unique mounts that are drops only.

I wish they'd put in at least one Frostwyrm that's somewhat easier to get, like a rare drop or something. Just some sort of alternative for those of us who rely on PuGs to raid (and thus probably will never get the achieves) and don't do arenas. I mean, there's the TLPD and the Green Protodrake; why not have something similar for Frostwyrms?

I would love that, a way to get a differently colored Frost Wyrm. I also have always fancied the Ember Wyrms, wished they would make them a mount for something, and that would actually fit with Cata well. Maybe the new mount achieve? I'm game :)

It's also worth noting though, that there is a different skin for the Netherdrake that never made it to live, and I would kill for it to be added in in some form. It's original color was transparent black (fitting for what Nethers actually are), with sparkly wings like the Netherdrake whelp pet from the collector's edition or the NPCs you can find in game. I love the skins we can choose from now, I just wish the original was available. Makes me die inside when I watch the official flying mount trailer or see screenies from the beta of BC...

An Emberwyrm would be perfect for Cata! /hopes Blizzard designers are reading this page.

Well a Magmawyrm would be better as its a raised black drake. A Emberwyrm is a red drake but i can see why they would get mixed up they have the same model XD

Whatever they're called, a skeletal dragon mount that we don't have to get raid achievements/run arenas for would be awesome.

Just cos everyone can get a mount does not take the cool factor away for me. I love my brewfest ram and pinkhawkstrider to bits i don't care if everyone has them.

My thoughts exactly. I absolutely love my Venomhide Ravasaur, because it's the first raptor I ever got, and I love raptors! I don't care if everyone and their worg has it.

Using your logic, wouldn't the blue, bronze and black drake be easy drops, because you only have to run instances that'd take at least 30 minutes for, two of which are 100% drops in the right circumstances?

Working for something doesn't make it cool in my mind, like others said. I love my bronze, and he was cake to get, but Kozridormu is my first drake mount and will always be special to me.

I would like a quest though, in Cata, where you work with a drake for a while, doing this and that, he gets killed at some point and raised as a frost wyrm, and the final step is subduing it and freeing it from control, at which point he becomes a mount for you. Something like that.

Hmmm i'd like a quest where one is going rampet thru a town or sumthing cos the lich king when he died his control over it went away and it just went berserk then ya help it get is mind back etc :S

Well no all those drakes you said are pretty easy to get so both u rawr and Azunara are right.

I'd recommend you stop useing  at the end of your posts in things like this as it does make you come of as a uptight person as in "i'm smarter than you" way and your not :S just sayin

I'd love a frost wyrm available outside of instances. I'd be perfectly willing to do a long involved questline or to grind rep with a faction in order to get one. But due to either time constraints or difficulties with raiding, I'd never be able to get those achievements, and I suck at pvp, so I'd never get it that way either.

I understand where you're coming from in a way, Rawr. You want a trophy mount of a sort, to say 'hey, I put in a lot of effort at X project, and here's what I got for it!' Which is fine. But I don't think it should be limited to just that too. There are plenty of people here who are perfectly willing to put work into getting mounts, but can't raid or pvp, or have difficulties with that sort of situation. Maybe it's just that they can't devote a lot of time to a rigorous raid schedule, or maybe a hardcore guild makes them uncomfortable, or maybe they can only PuG so it's harder to get achievements.

They would certainly be willing to 'work' for a mount, but the conditions it's given under aren't very friendly to them. I don't see why they should have any less of a chance at a cool mount they want.
