Patch 4.0.1 Threat Pet Mistake??
Okay... now granted I know most of you are level 80 hunters and from what I'm hearing your BM talent set is "still overpowered" but I have a level 22 hunter who uses a wolf and I'm very upset.. After patch 4.0.1 my pet cant seem to hold threat anymore at all. With cower disabled and growl enabled if I use anything more than autoshot i draw the threat.. let alone if i use this new kill ability(which is super redundant)... sooo... anyone not a level 80 hunter noticing this problem?

Unfortunately most talents are not balanced well for leveling characters. Some levels you will be very underpowered, other levels your pet will solo bosses. Just depends a lot of the talents you and your pet currently have.
Also, make sure your pet is equal to your level. If he is lower, he will generate considerably less threat than you. Send pet, let him attack a few times before you start shooting.

Cower has not affected threat for a LONG time. Cower is now like Ghoul's huddle, it Reduces Damage Taken, not lowered threat.wolfncoyote wrote:Okay... now granted I know most of you are level 80 hunters and from what I'm hearing your BM talent set is "still overpowered" but I have a level 22 hunter who uses a wolf and I'm very upset.. And Kill Command is an attack your pet uses. You should get NO threat at all, hell it should be making the pet get threat off you.

I seem to be having the opposite problem you have, in some random heroics if the tank is a warrior my pet will always out threat him or her even with growl turned off.

This is actually a tanking threat problem, not a pet problem. The tanks are either still getting used to changed mechanics or your pet is hitting to hard or fast for the tank to keep up.Kotamaku wrote:I seem to be having the opposite problem you have, in some random heroics if the tank is a warrior my pet will always out threat him or her even with growl turned off.
I suggest waiting a few seconds before you start attacking.

Also wolves usually arent the best choice for BMs but that may have changed since the patch. I tended to use cats or raptors. XD

Seconded about the Kill Command - this should definitely be threat from your pet - if for any reason you've not been using for fear of pulling aggro, use it and your problem will go away. if you have been using it, and still pulling aggro from your pet, then that's definitely wrong.
On beta I have a hunter at around level 25 and I do occasionally pull aggro, which I'm not doing with my 84 main at all.
You're probably already aware of this, but it took me a while to get used to the fact that Kill Command won't work until your pet gets into melee, so you can't usually open up with it without waiting for the pet to close the distance - if you shoot, and the mob goes for you straight off, your pet may not be able to catch it up to regain threat.

Tested this on a 28 hunter with a freshly tamed wolf. early on i had a few aggro issues, but as the pet levelled up and caught up to me he held on like a champ.
I generally open with serpent sting, then dump a kill command when the pet gets close enough. Seems to work pretty well.
Still havent really got my head around the new way of doing things with focus though!
