Tauren Pets
I guess my question is.. besides Tallstriders, and hoofed creatures like Rhinos and Boars,
what animals seem to look like it would naturally walk beside a giant two-legged Native American cow?
No animal really says "native american" to me.. except animals that would find beef tasty.
It kinda makes me wish that I was another race... >_<
Re: Tauren Pets
Dogs and Horses right off the bat. But we can't tame horses and dogs aren't tameable until Cata.Willowzen wrote:I guess my question is.. besides Tallstriders, and hoofed creatures like Rhinos and Boars,

I suggest reading up on native american lore as there are stories and myths about monsters and gods of all sorts, from Coyote, to bears, to wolves, the bison. The stars, sky and moon and just.
If you're not really going to look into something and just be all bothered over it, trying to play a 'native american cow' isn't really for you.
And wouldn't this belong in general pet discussion?

Re: Tauren Pets

Wolves and coyotes as well as pumas were big on lore. And that kinda bugs me what ou said. About it looks weird that your companion looks like it could eat you. Dont you see, thats WHY the native americans liked them, because they COULD eat them. Bears and pumas were regarded as warrior spirits. WHile wolves represented power and teamwork. If I was making a Tauren hunter he would have these pets
Tallstrider, wolf, eagle, Puma.

Yha I allmost said Wind snakes but then I remembered that was an aztec thing not native americanMalazee wrote:Eagle is a pretty good one. You might also want to look into a Windserpent, though Quetzelcoatl was more of a Native South American thing.

Re: Tauren Pets
Pets can surprise you, especially with our new, expanded stables and so much more freedom to choose something. A pet that you don't think will click with your toon while just looking at it in the wild might be a good fit after all. If it isn't, well, it's not like we don't have a lot of choice.
I'd say stop worrying too much about your theme, and instead just find a pet that feels right for you.

Re: Tauren Pets
Dogs are traditional hunting animals anyway, so it didn't feel odd to me at all.
Another option would be to tame an owl or another bird of prey, and turn her into a falconer which is another traditional way of hunting.

Or a Mulgore barking dog. Speaking of which, I need to go retame one of those now that the stables have expanded. (Runs off to find his puppy Lucy)

I would also agree with the aforementioned bald eagle, boar, tallstrider, and coyote as being suitable companions.
Perhaps thinking of Taurens more like Minotaurs rather than cows will help you get over certain pet prejudices.

Re: Tauren Pets
To Niabi: I never thought of Tauren as Minotaurs, but I suppose you are right! As with the somewhat strange Middle Eastern(?) satyr combination for Draenei, Tauren are native american minotaurs/Apis. LOL Blizz likes to combine myths from two different cultures to create a new creature. And yes, a turtle would be good! I forgot about those. Some native americans believed the world was birthed on a turtles back

To Max: Yes! Ravens swallow the eyes of their victims to see their last thoughts before their death. That's what White Wolf books say anyway. LOL Probably not true to lore. I'll have to get my Daggercap Hawk back then lol
To Redith: Ohh yes! Bald eagles are good. I have yet to be a high enough level for one. Maybe one day! Puma? I had to stop and look at Petopia to know which model you were referring to, since it often looks too much like a lioness to be labeled a cougar/puma/mountain lion. Hm. I'll keep it in mind.
To Cerah and Sorcha: I suppose you are right about the pets not eating her. Kyle the wolfdog is owned by Ahab Wheathoof in Bloodhoof, so I suppose wolves would be a decent choice for Taurens after all. I suppose that opens up options for any other toothy-grinned critter as well.
To FuzzyDolly: After reading about lions and your Lucy, I'm now longing to get my lion back. With the new patch, I have enough room for him now!
Thanks everyone for replying! It's given me some options and a different view of things. In conclusion, I guess a cow owning a carnivore pet isn't as weird as I thought. It means that the Tauren is stronger than her potential predator, and can keep it tame. Or, looking at it from another way, a mythological cow-woman can have whatever pet she wants, without constraints.
