Doesn't sound like you were in the wrong if you tagged Arc first when the both of you were in the same spot. One of those first come, first serve kinda scenarios.

I think I agree with Kamoodle, you tag him you tame him. The other hunter shouldn't have broken your tame in the first place.

I had something like that happen when I found Loque the first time. A BE hunter was at the spawn, but i tagged him first and started taming. He took aggro, I got it back, then he killed Loque before my second tame attempt was done. He then sent me a wonderful little note on his ally alt the next day, telling me how happy he was that he killed Loque, and how he hoped I was stuck looking forever.

I did tame Loque about a week later, same time, same place. But now the stories of jerks killing rares as they're being tamed just hits an extra bad nerve, after having it happen to me.

Been lurking for a while, but had to finally make an account to post in here as this post is making me angry at the world. ;p

Been attempting to tame Nuramoc for the past three days, and was having a tough time of it. First time I saw him was after ~4 hours and another hunter had just completed the tame. Ugh! But still ... congrats to that guy, and go out and get dinner before I come back to hunting.

Second time, he's a corpse. Ask in /1 "Did somebody just kill Nuramoc?" Somebody replies "ummm ... that could have been me ..." The guy had no idea what it was and just killed it 'cause it flew over him! He says he feels really bad and wouldn't have done that if he'd known, etc ... I can't blame the dude but I'm still sort of sad about it.

(now it gets happier, I swear ...)

The guy that killed him ends up to be farming Consortium rep, and is very pleasant chat company for the next 5 hours. But, I don't see my big purple buddy again before I have to sleep. Log on the next morning and continue the hunt, which is quiet (except for chatting with my new friend!) for 6 hours, at which point I have to start making dinner. Pasta's done and I /who Netherstorm and ask the one guy other than me if he wouldn't mind pointing out Nuramoc to me. He says "I can just invite you to a group and we'll both get credit!" I explained that I was trying to tame him, but just hadn't wanted it to die "by accident." After a little pleasant banter (he was 3 mobs from the 'chieve), I left to finish dinner with a "may the best hunter win!"

15 mins later, a group invite pops up on my screen. I jog over from the kitchen and accept, and he says "hurry up and come get this bastard before I change my mind!" I gave him 100g and some random stat food (including a couple fish feasts) that were in my bag between blubbering out "THANK YOU"s and making little *squeeee!* noises.

He said "that was SO worth it! Enjoy your new pet!" before leaving the group and flying off.

Moral of the (really long) story: Yes, there are jerks out there. And it's hard to remember when you're dealing 'em that EVERYBODY isn't like that. Every once in a while somebody does something to remind you there are reaaaaally nice people floating around too, and it's a little bit easier to deal with. =D

(Oh, and good luck with the bear!)

Yeaaah, if you'd tagged him at all, the other hunter can't tame. If he was meleeing it down, chances are he's clueless about how to stop autoattacking once the bear is in melee range--and he couldn't tame instead, because it was tagged to you. That's my bet.

Tudyk--very nice of that other guy :D Good story to hear.

The other day, I came across a dead King Krush. it broke my heart and i ran into my room and listened to some emo songs. Tonight, I get on and I didn't see a dead King Krush, instead i Came across Aotona just looking at me. YAy! but it's not exactly the giant yoshi i've been dreaming of. I then moved on to the Maker's Reach and guess what! its Loque'nahak......standing on a dead King Krush. WTF IS THIS!!!!! King krush would rather let loque'nahak kill him than join my legion of beasts!

and now on to the arcturis related part of this story.

More emo than I was the night before, and out of emo songs to listen to, I decided i'd go camp arcturis. While there, some hunters joined me including 3 alliance hunters and a friend of mine who was once in my guild. im not a greedy guy, but i also dont want to lose Arcturis to someone of the oposite faction. so after bringing in some friends the alliance hunters left. a few hours go by and me and my horde hunter friend have been switching on and off going afk while the other takes over. after 3 hours on post i said "hey im gonna go afk for a min, if he spawns make sure no alliance get him" and i whent to the bathroom.

While in the bathroom....doing my thing... i hear (queue crappy sound effects) BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW (2 things. 1: thats NPCscan and 2: i have a wireless headset)

so i stop what im doing (guys will tell you that hurts) pull up my pants, pee a little, and run towards my laptop to see my friend in the process of taming Arcturis.

I would have been mad if not for the fact that above him was a level 80 alliance hunter who I guess was scared of me so he didnt mes with my friend's tame.

Morale of the story, when someone says they are in the bathroom playing wow on their laptop, dont judge them. they could have a good reason for bringing their laptop.

Blizzard needs to make the tamed target not targetable. I lost King Krush a couple days back when a DK Deathgripped him during a tame.

It's really sad how low people are willing to go to get the rare pet they want. On my main, a Night Elf Hunter on Tarren Mill (which is greatly dominated by Horde), there is always at least one Horde Hunter camping at Arcturis' spawn point, and they will use every single opportunity to get me killed.

I even wished one of them good luck with emotes, and what does he do right after? Try to shoot me down. :P I was planning on leaving him alone with the camp just to avoid the drama of two people trying for him at once, but with him acting like that, I decided to stick around.

Even though I had sworn not to, I decided to send in a ticket to have my previous Arcturis restored, simply because the camping is a real pain for an Alli on Tarren Mill. -.-

Arcturis is actually not as hard to find as some other rares. His respawn timer is a bit more regular. Easiest way to find him without losing too much sleep or sanity is to just log out at his location. That way you check it when you leave, and when you log in. Sure its hard to resist the urge to camp the spot. He will turn up eventually ;)

And to Theaden's post, I don't understand people like that. It should be an unspoken rule or understanding between players that if someone has tagged a beast, leave them be for god's sake.... If you are a DK flying around and you spot king krush and there AREN'T any hunters around, go knock yourself out, kill it. But if you see someone taming it, let them do their thing..jizz. He's either completely inconsiderate or retarded.

Sad to say but this sort of thing is inevitable with SBs, that's why I don't camp them - I just log in, look around, and if no SB then I log out or do something else. If the mob has multiple spawn points I'll patrol them all a couple times but that's it. To me at least it's not worth the lost time and the headaches of sitting around doing nothing other than glaring helplessly at someone else, or crossing my fingers and hoping the SB spawns before another hunter shows up to compete with me...

Some might think that approach is simplistic or unfeasible but it's gotten me all of the SBs, and while there's always some element of luck involved as with camping (with camping you're gambling that either no one else will come along, or that people who do are willing to let you "own" the spot), it too requires persistence - the checks and patrols are more spread out over time but it still took a *lot* of them for me to get Skoll... but nonetheless I had him about 2 weeks after he was added to the game. So there's more than one way to get SBs.

I always just pop in a few movies put WoW in windowed mode and watch them on my PC while waiting. Never really had trouble with anyone being an ass about tames. I've had people let me tame the mob because I stayed there and waited, and in return i provided them with the time he actually did spawn so they might have a better chance.

Looks like the Horde Hunter I was talking about a few posts back brought some friends to wreak havoc. :P Three of his guildies spent hours ganking everything near Arcturis' spawn point, until we managed to gather a big enough group to dps them down. Gotta hate the Holy Paladin & Resto Druid combo... -.- Well at least now I have completely valid reasons to report the lot:
- They spammed "A N A L" in Yell
- Kept killing and corpse camping everyone in sight
- The Hunter got someone to whisper me a threat by the lines of "_____ is coming for you"

I find it oddly satisfying to get to rightfully report them for harassment. ^^

Congrats - and I can't stand people who go with names like that. There ought to be a spam filter for stupid names that replaces them with #%$#! same as the profanity filter does in chat. I'm not into RP'ing but come on already...

There is no end to how far some people will go to be a-holes in this game. Playing on a PVE server certainly reduces the frequency of this kind of behavior but there will always be dedicated jerks.

PvE servers drive me batty because you can just tell that people WANT to be jerks, but the whole non-flagged thing prevents them from doing so...although it does open the door on other ways of griefing that don't involve players actually attacking each other.

I'm so happy right now. ^^ My ticket about having Arcturis restored was finally answered, and a relog later my dear Rune was once again by my side. <3 Even though I was hoping to snatch him right from under the specific Horde Hunter's nose, I knew that my chances of getting to do that were pretty much nonexistant.

Rune even nudged Nanyana's hand (courtesy of PetEmote) right after I took this screenshot, which really made me chuckle. Just as I simply had to /hug him the moment he appeared by my side, he just couldn't resist showing how happy he was to be back. :)
