PVP gear question...

Unread post by Slickrock »

So with the 4.0.1 change, I've been grinding AV this weekend for gear, got my 4-pc plus the offset wrathful.

Now I've got another 2600 honor, and it's down to getting the 264 2H axe, or the 264 gun or bow.

I'm currently using the sword from the hilt quest, which while it is a 251, has +144 Agi on it, which about balances for the 323 AP on the axe. For a gun I have Rowans, which is still ok for BM, and has the same dps as the pvp gun. (Frostheims note about weapon normalization today means for BM Rowan's is still good, due to the base dps, not as good as before, but good). (If I was MM, the gun would be the obvious choice, but I'm running BM and very unlikely to go MM).

Another consideration is the 264 pvp axe has two sockets.

So.. gun/bow or axe? I'm not likely to grind up another 2500 honor soon, as I need a break from BGs.. I did a lot of AV this weekend...

Have you checked the PvP Gun Vs Rowan's? - I read something that said that guns had been over-boosted by the ammo-to-weapon conversion when compared to bows.

I'd check it myself, but can't access wowhead from here.

This is now worrying me - I'm 55 Honour from the PvP Gun or staff, and am currently rocking Felglacier Bolter with Rowan's in my backpack - should I be using Rowan's?

I had planned to get the PvP xbow, but now I'm thinking the staff might be better. Argh!

Rowan's is better than feltglacier because of the dps diff. I don't know how it compares to the pvp weaps though.

Edit: Sorry Slick, I've no idea about pvp. I did see Kalli advise someone to get the dual 1h axes somewhere on here.... Try sending her a PM if she doesn't see this topic?

Can you buy weapons with just Honor? I thought you had to have an Arena Rating? I checked gear last night on my DK and you had to have 2600 Personal Arena Rating or something...

There's a "bug" in the system since the patch where you can buy the 264 pvp gear (wrathful) that requires an 1800 rating without having that rating. It'll look red to you, but if you click to purchase you'll still do so. All you need is the honour. Blizz has said they don't intend to fix it since the arena season is over.

It's not a bug. They are changing tje availability of pvp gear. The bug is that it is still red.

Rowan's is better than any pre-ICC weapon. It's better than any 251 weapon for BM.

I looked at the 1H axes and didn't see the benefit.. I'll look at those again when I get home.

Ah well, I could be wrong. I'm fairly certain that's what I read, but since I don't pvp I was only half paying attention.

I dislike Rowan's on principle, just because the stats don't benefit hunters. All things considered, you'll probably benefit more from the ranged weapon upgrade as opposed to the stat sticks (and yes, I'd still recommend the pair of one handers if you go that route).

Either way, all of this gear is going to be outdated in about a month and a half, so I don't think it matters TOO much. :)

Couldn't respond to the PM, sooooo...

Yes, the reason to take the one handers is the enchants. It's better to have a weapon chain on one and an agility (or hit/crit) one on the other. For PvE, the two hander works.

Thanks!

I looked again at the stats, and the bow does work out better, especially for pvp, given the higher damage range, and it will probably be easy to upgrade melee weapons first in Cata... :D

I got the gun on Slick a week or two ago..
