Female worgen models updated - 10/17/10

If they were going to go the Gaga route I'm surprised they didn't at least take the dancing from Bad Romance. It would fit better than this random piece.

And my issue with the worgen looking like they need to consistently rip your face off is when it comes to casters. Sure melee can always be pissed off and ready to tear your throat out--that's what melee does. Casters don't do that. For example, warlocks are cold, calculating, and typically evil bastards. Would they like to rip your throat out? Sure, but they're not going to do it themselves. Likely, they have their pet do it, or fill you full of curses and off you with a spell.

Conversely, since they're going to have priests and druids (which means healers), I see no reason to have a healer look like they're pissed off 24/7. I'd be afraid to be healed by someone who looked like "YOU TAKE YOUR FUCKIN HEALS AND YOU LIKE IT BUCKO!!!" Druidism teaches one to be calm and one with nature (even for cat and bears), so there's no real incentive there for them to look continuously pissy unless, maybe, they're a savagekin. And the "If you don't want to look like a stick was shoved up your ass then stay in human form" cop-out is getting old. If I wanted to play as a human, I would have rolled a god damn human. I don't want them to take the snarly faces away (and the female's not even truly snarling), I want them to give us choices.

Giving us the option (just like all the other races have) is all I, and many others, want. Hell, I don't even think the male looks all that fierce. I think he looks like he has a serious back problem and a chainsaw mouth full of teeth that don't fit. I laugh and cringe at the male model on my loading screen, and playing one in beta gives me back pains. Hell, watching the males in game try to howl gives me a case of the giggles because they can't do it properly. Their teeth are so big, and they have so many that their lips can't close to do a proper howl. I'm glad for all the people that like them, and I'll probably roll a female to play anyway as I have a story in the works for one. I'm just one of the disappointed fans of the alpha models. I was excited for worgen when I saw those...now...not as much.

I apologize for the long posts. I've been a huge werewolf/vamp fan all my life so I'm a bit sad with some of the changes Blizz's made.

I'd like to take the time here to rephrase something I said in some of my last posts. XD After seeing the female worgen dance and running wild videos, I decided to load my beta client and check on the couple female worgen toons I had made. It was such a pleasant surprise to see that her head is finally attached to her body, and that her ears are attached as well. Granted, I wouldn't call it a perfect model, but the slight differences that Blizzard did made both my boyfriend and I say "That looks a lot better."

It's not the creature I thought of when Blizz announced worgen as playable races, and it certainly doesn't fit everyone's (and it never will) bill of standards, but, for me, it's tolerable. I love the mane hair designs and hope someday they'll update the tauren's manes to look similar. I'll see if I can catch one in an action pose screenshot; their combat animations actually look pretty frightening despite their idle appearance, especially on my death knight. XD

To this, I point out this bit of lore thats in game, presented in TB's dulcet tones. Even the druid teaching them still had rage frothing under the surface. Ralaar just had better control over it. The other druids couldn't even control it themselves, they were taken over by their bestial nature. Ralaar came along and proved himself the Alpha in terms the pack would understand. That at least brought some of their senses back, enough for them to realize what they had become, and gave them a path to move forward and regain control.

Through this bit of lore, one could reasonably infer that the worgen nature is savage and bestial, and only with training (andanother event in game that I don't want to spoil, but I'm happy to let TB do so) can the worgen regain some of their original nature. In literary tradition, issues like this are a constant internal struggle, not just a one time Ritual Contrivance that magically gives the character perfect control from there-on-out. Elric of Melniboné is another fantastic example of this, who has to deal with his issues not only internally but externally as well. Also, from what I've heard Blizz devs saying last year and this year, lore wise, this seems to be the way they want to go. Worgen still have "the Beast within" to struggle with, I'd think.

All this being said, I strongly agree with your point of view that it would be nice to have more facial expression than "Snarl Rarg !" There is no reason to assume that there aren't some worgen much better at controlling their inner rage than others. I mean, imagine a warrior. "Need more rage !" When I play my War, I wonder why my character doesn't get more rage by raging about not having rage. That character as a worgen I'd expect to constantly look T'd off. But I digress. Not all worgen have to be snarly. I actually like the current female face a bit more than ones they've had in the recent past, but we do need more facial options, certainly, not just different coloration options. Oh, and they need to decide which kind of eyes the race will have >_<

Honestly though, I don't ever think that the face has been what bugged me the most about the worgen female. The bit that bugs me is the body posture and styling. Its so radically different from the male's that it is jarring. I think that at this point, I'd be satisfied if they toned down the breasts a bit in worgen form, and made the idle stance a bit more ... how to describe it ? a little more aggressive, similar to the male, but not as much. They don't need to look like they're gonna jump over the table and ear your throat out with their teeth, but they do need to have that slight air of menace about them, I think.
Also, I'd like to see the chest be a little bigger and the shoulders a little wider. Wolves have large chests. Again, though, obviously not as much as the male. Some of the DK pics you posted defiantly show off the character and personality I'm looking for. But if the worgen female's idle posture remains straight up (as seen here in TB's Female Worgen Jokes vid, about 2 minutes in), it doesn't really have anything that sets it apart to make it unique from the draenai model it looks like it was borrowed from, and it just doesn't fit, in my mind. Doing nothing but changing the body language a bit would really help it out a lot I think.

No worries there. I for one have enjoyed reading them ! You do bring up many excellent points. We may not always agree on them, but they're still good non-the-less Typically you don't need to apologize for enthusiasm on a topic until someone has to seek medical aid You know what they say, it's all fun and games till....

I also really enjoyed the story of werewolves as presented by White Wolf. I got into the game as a freshman in high school, so I too have a soft place in my heart for them. Honestly, many of my opinions are probably shaded by that experience.

Technically the druids who teach our worgen in game are not the savage Druid of the Claw (or whatever it was they were called; apologies for forgetting). The druids who come and free our worgen to be permanently in control of our curse are whatever faction of druids the night elves of Darnassus currently follow. They feel bad for what their ancestors did and wish to help.

To me, the Druid of the Claw guys that went crazy fueled the creation of the vanilla style worgen--mindless beasts unable to escape their savage curse. Playing the Gilneas questline, by the time we end it, we're far from savage monsters hellbent on killing. They show you that cool little cut-scene video where we are, then you zone in to the scene where Krennan gives you a potion to give you temporary control until you later meet up with the night elves.

There is a way to achieve fierceness and savageness without needing to make them "snarl" all the time. If they would change the "come hither" look on the female's face, I think she could achieve it. I think they look plenty fierce and savage in combat, which is where it counts imo.

@Sara: After I go get myself and my man some lunch, I'll load up my beta client and get a shot of her just idling in game. They still have that annoying belly pooch and box butt, but it doesn't seem real noticeable unless you zoom in pretty far and aim your cam sideways at her. I still wish the worgen had tails.

The dance literally just almost ruined female worgen for me. I am... so saddened...and angry.

Ughghghghghg I can barely contain my disgust. Why did they even pick Lady Gaga? Let alone this... self-grabbing "dance" DX Argh!

Guess no more celebratory dances for downing raid bosses on my future Worgen. Cause... dear lord.

Please Blizzard, go back to the dance studio idea and let me customize the dance. PLEASE DX

Oh yeah. It's a total bug. I just call it the "sniff idle" animation cause I don't have a term for the entire bug.

However, the males wen through the EXACT same thing a few patches ago and that was fixed. So I wouldn't worry too much, it will be fixed :3

Boxy butt, poochy stomach, the boobs are about level with the shoulders, the face still irks me..... I really hope they're still working on this. I could forgive the anatomy weirdness if the face wasn't so disturbing. It's like the entire face looks gentle until you get to the mouth, where they're trying to pull off a snarl but the rest of the face doesn't match it. It's just.....weird.

do worgen females in human form get the option to use the BE hairstyles that where added via the barbershop or is it only the classic human hairstyles?
if this works is it the same with the male worgen?

Right now I can't use the barber as either a worgen or a worgen human. =_= Also, for some unknown reason, it's affecting my regular humans too.

I miss the alpha hairstyles in the worst of ways. Please Blizz, gimme gimme gimme those wild lady 'dos.
