So I went to the dentist today. Yep. Gotta get the big R-C. It'll be my first and I am TERRIFIED.

Everyone is telling me its not as bad as it sounds these days. I hope they're right.

I'm terrified of dentists... doesn't matter how much they tell me it won't hurt and all that, I'm still scared outta my mind. I hope they're right and it's an easy procedure.

Hope it all goes well for you Bella. Are you able to be put to sleep for the procedure? That's what I would opt for if it was available.

They most likely won't put you to sleep for something like a root filling.

I've never had a problem with dentists, but that's probably mostly because of a relatively high pain limit. :D I still find it highly uncomfortable around them. (They make a living by poking in peoples mouths! Yuck!)

It's a relatively painless procedure, they will most likely give you an injection with a localized painkiller before starting, so at most it'll be a little sting. Anyhow...

I'm pretty sure they numb the area first, which I've had before and it was nothing (though not for a root canal). I think you'll be able to feel them doing something in your mouth, but you won't register pain. And afterward you might be a little drooly til the numbing wears off.

I'm sure you'll be fine. It's a very common procedure and if it was as horrific as you fear, then there wouldn't be so many people getting it done!

Hm. *rubs chin* You know, I've never thought of it that way. ... That's a really good point. Though it doesn't remove my fear of dentists, my rational inner voice will have a better argument to give to my irrational inner voice now. Though I hope I'll never need to use it for a root canal. *sends Bella another hug*

I had one of these when i was 10! Don't worry its that bad just think of a happy place when its happening and it will be over before you know it. Just remmebr its better to have it done then not haveing it done!

Thanks for all your support! Being anxiety-ridden this almost gave me a mini nervous breakdown. My mom is telling me I should go for the local AND nitrous oxide, so I'll see if he offers it. I'm taking my ipod (well technically its an iphone but I'll be utilizing its ipod abilities) and hopefully with the music everything will go by faster.

Don't be nervous! Making yourself a nervous wreck is the least helpful thing you can do for yourself. Yes, I know, you can't just TELL someone not to be nervous. -_- But as has already been said, this is a routine procedure and it's nothing to worry about.

Think of it as a very long cavity filling. They freeze you really good but you still can feel them digging around inside your tooth. Despite being able to feel the drill it shouldn't hurt. They put this stuff inside the hole to kill your nerve and then cap it. Your 2nd visit is to drain the stuff and fill it in with permanent filling.

You can ask for gas or some valium if it does give you extreme anxiety. Personally I opted for the gas. Then I'm high as a kite and don't give a flying froot loop when they start poking around my mouth.

You'll be ok! Just be sure to keep it clean and take good care of yourself while you wait for the crown.

Also, when done, you will have a tooth with upgraded armor, which is kinda rad. And I read a news story where someone ignored an abscessed tooth. It got worse and they died of meningitis as a result. So please don't ignore your chompers. They work hard for you.

With an over crowded mouth, I have all sorts of teeth issues. And I hate dentists. I don't like them poking me. I think it's the pain, and worse, just the fear. Knowing they're in mouth...Argh. As much as I hate the thought of being gassed up, I wouldn't mind it if it kills the fear.

Also, random related annoyance: Why dentists insist on talking to you with them in your mouth hole?

I don't mind dentists really I mean they are just doing their job and I am glad they do do it! Heck I can't stand people who have like black teeth Ewww lol

Honestly? The gas really does kill the fear (They use 'laughing gas'). When I was gassed, I just kinda chilled and listened to my ipod. Didn't even feel them numbing me with the novacaine. I was numb, high as a kite and chillin' to the ipod. They gave me vicodin for after (Whoa). Most dentists are very kind and understanding about anxiety and can even prescribe something like valium to take a day or two in advance if it's super bad. Some even offer general anesthesia, though that's really expensive and you take longer to bounce back.
