Crystalline Tear of Loyalty
I first discovered the Crystalline Tear of Loyalty when I happened across Terrorpene a couple days after taming him. Other rares I'd killed had BoP loot, and I was curious if his would be also. Imagine my surprise (and delight!) when he dropped nothing but a gray!

Mind you, it vends for 25g, but this is pocket change by now, and most of us are willing to offer more than that sum up to someone who points us in the direction of a rare pet we've been hunting.
Tonight I confirmed that Sambas drops the Crystalline Tear as well. I can only presume Madexx - and any other unique-skinned, high-level pets will also drop it. Confirmation appreciated!

And no, low level pets do not appear to get the same treatment. I've killed Ashtail multiple times, and he most certainly drops "normal" rarespawn loot (aka, boe greens "of random stats").

Indeed. Now that they add something like that, my warlock HAS to have one, just to link to mean people. And really, it won't discourage anyone, because the "rare = achievement+loot" attitude from WOTLK will still be there, and AFAIK, they are a part of the achievement. Only difference now is that a hunter taming it counts towards the achievement as well.Taluwen wrote:Thank the heavens! Though I think people will kill them anyway....

I'm afraid that's all too true..and let's not forget the douche's who enjoy killing them because we want them as pets.../sighTaluwen wrote:Thank the heavens! Though I think people will kill them anyway....

Re: Crystalline Tear of Loyalty
I haven't seen any achievement to date on Beta, but I have my doubts that Blizzard would go to such lengths to discourage people from killing these, only to encourage them via achievements. And it's true, mean and spiteful people will still kill them, as well as people who see an "ooh, shiny!" mob and don't know much about it. But I think we'll see a decrease in overall tameable rare deaths, and I doubt there'll be many - if any - nonhunters camping them now.Saturo wrote: AFAIK, they are a part of the achievement. Re: Crystalline Tear of Loyalty
I think we're sometimes too quick to ascribe griefing-type motives to some people (although there are plenty of stories on here where it's clear that really was the motive), when the simple truth may well be that they never considered another option. After all, for the vast majority of classes (and therefore players), every mob in the game world is only there to be either looked at or killed.
I never bothered looting beasts of greys when my bags were full until I first rolled a skinner.
I never held off on finishing moves when levelling alongside a warlock until I played one, and was hungry for soul shards.
Of course, it works both ways.
I never asked a tanking druid to pull off a mid-combat innervate until I was one myself, and realised it's totally doable

Also,
is 100% true. That's more than we get for a daily quest right now, for an easy mob kill.Dewclaw wrote:It sells for 25 gold. That's probably enough to warrant someone to kill it.
Definitely if a hunter advertises that they'll pay for the right to tame (or rather for the person not to kill the rare spawn) then yes, they might say "this is worth more to me alive than dead" - but hell, I don't want to have to pay people to get to tame my rares! Screw that!

But I don't exactly want to end up with people griefing over the spawns and demanding gold for them while they hold aggro, but I believe that's a reportable form of harassment.

Re: Crystalline Tear of Loyalty
In Sholazar yesterday, I offered 300G on general chat to anyone who pointed me towards Loque'nahak, only for a pally to come on the chat channel and say he had just killed him 10 minutes earlier. Me and another hunter pointed out he has a 6-hour + respawn timer, and the pally apologized. He wasn't purposely trying to be a jerk, and I made a new Hunter friend as well. (He's keeping an eye out for Loque for me, I'll tell him if I find another Skoll)
Other, non-pet classes might simply not know how valuable a rare mob is to a hunter, or know just how long their respawn timers are. Yes, some people are jerks, but not all of them. As hunters, I guess it's easy to forget that sometimes.

I also pointed out that he doesn't have to pay other players in order to get his minions, so why should I pay for the "privilege" of taming a pet?

I am more concerned about the in-fighting and competition between hunters to be honest. I've seen bidding wars in the Basin.

That would only add more fuel to the fire. What most people don't keep in mind that despite there being a lot of hunters, rares are meant for us and us alone. We can't get angry when someone else finds a rare, fair and square, and kills it. Fine. You've been camping it for a while, but so what? They have just as much a right as anyone else to grab it.Ryan wrote:Perhaps Blizz could implement special tame only rares, which could not be attacked, but would defend themselves when being tamed.
If they stole from you while you were taming, fine. That's pretty evil and harsh. But a rare is a rare is a rare, and ANYONE is allowed at it. Do you leave some random rare out in the wild because you can't tame it? No, you end up killing it. Even if some achievement hunter has been looking for Old Crystalbark for example, for months, and you just killed him...Yeah. Look at how the tables turn.
So next time you argue because someone killed a rare you were camping, fair and square without griefing you, keep this in mind.
No, Ryan, I'm not targeting you or anyone here. I'm just saying this, because it's something I've noticed that irks me.

Re: Crystalline Tear of Loyalty
I have seen the bidding wars in SB. I have also made both hunters feel bad (well... it seemed that way), because I told them both in general chat that whoever was camping an area should be able to camp that area without having to worry about another class camping that same small area just to make some gold. When I say "area" I mean a spawn point... not the whole zone.Sarayana wrote:Well BAH HUMBUG! Heh, just kidding, I couldn't agree more.cowmuflage wrote:Well guys remmber Blizz buts those rares in game FOR EVERYONE not just us huntersI mean, clearly they do intend for these to be tamed - given the inscription on the vendor item - but yeah, the 25g definitely makes the mob valuable to non-hunters too, if only slightly so.
I am more concerned about the in-fighting and competition between hunters to be honest. I've seen bidding wars in the Basin. If people start treating this vendor item as a starting bid, then it is sort of a slippery slope, and personally I'd rather have a non-hunter kill the mob than hold it ransom for thousands of gold.
It seemed to work that time. One of the hunters who had been there the least amount of time logged out 5min later saying he'll try some other time.
It doesn't always seem to end that peacefully... it is usually, "I AM A DK AND I WONT KILL IT FOR 5K GOLD LOLOLOLOLOLLOOOLL!!!111!11!"
