Pet Tanking: Help!
Hi there! I did a quick search to see if there was a thread similar to this and I didn't find one (something that could be entirely down to me and if there is a thread with this very topic please delete this one and I'll hop there.)
What I wanted to ask and hopefully get advice about is everything related to pet tanking. By this I don't mean what is the best tanking pet (a discussion about the differences between different pets and their tanking abilities is great but I found plenty of them around!) but more along the lines of talent spec, gear choice, stats; an in-depth look at all areas of pet tanking - if I'm being silly let me know, have I strayed into melee hunter territory?
I just bought dual-spec for my hunter and I was thinking about having my 2nd spec be devoted entirely to making my pet as sturdy as possible in the hopes of tanking normals and some old-world content. If this idea isn't foolish here's the spec I am thinking about:
http://eu.wowarmory.com/talent-calc.xml ... 0000000000
Any comments or suggestions on improving it?
I was also thinking about trying to build up a tanking set of gear but I'm not too knowledgeable in regards to what stats pets get from their master and if that would be a worthwhile aim at all (e.g: buying a lot of high stamina gear with badges, maybe looking at stuff tanking druids use e.t.c.)
Basically I was hoping to start a conversation on the possibilities, or if someone would like to shoot me down for being silly.
Anyway, thanks for reading!

Re: Pet Tanking: Help!
Druid tanking gear sounds good in theory. Probably the best you can do though is hunter PvP gear, since druid tanking gear lacks intel, which means less attack power, which means a not as strong pet. Not to mention less mana.
Your spec looks good for tanking from my view. Nothing drastic missing or anything.
As for glyphs I'd use:
http://talent.mmo-champion.com/?hunter# ... wq3-,11403
(thought I'd put in a talent spec while at it)
And I'll stop there, since a discussion on what pets would be good for tanking wasn't asked for, hehe.

EJ is quite scary. They either judge you as "knowing your shit" or "complete waste of time."
There is no inbetween. And if there is. They'll find you.

Re: Pet Tanking: Help!
I had posted a similar question somewhere, but the conversation didn't go too far. The Warcraft Hunters Union site linked above has a great amount of info. I highly recommend. I've been thinking about giving this a try, but time and resources have made it a little tough. Possibly after the holiday events I'll try and run through a few with my guild who have been very supportive of the idea.
I'm looking at using PvP gear (also suggested above) but I have not yet tried it.

Re: Pet Tanking: Help!
I just ran across this site: http://bigredrhino.wordpress.com/
Looks like Pet Tanking is a huge focus. I'm at a teacher's convention right now, so I didn't have a lot of time to explore the site in depth, but from what I've seen, looks like there might be some really good info there.

Re: Pet Tanking: Help!
I tanked regular FoS the other day with my croc Billcrocsby
Was great fun, and many laughs had by guildies.
I can also solo the tiger mount dropping boss in ZG now! Woohooo! It was a bit dicey at first with Bil dying a few times, until I went and threw 2 points in Silverback. After that was smooth sailing!
Pet tanking is fun

Re: Pet Tanking: Help!
Well, i Pet Tank allot stuff, and solo allot. I use the following spec atm:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#cVbhbggRbuGest0ehb:cLV
Pretty important are Improved Mend Pet(cheaper, and removes nasty things), Spirit Bond(10% more heal for the pet), Catlike Reflexes(9% more evasion for your pretty), Longevity(obvious), Cobra Strikes(if you crit ... so does the pet = more aggro) and 2 in Go for the Throat(u want your pet to have 100 Focus at all times for max performance).
The Pet of my choice, a Bear.
http://www.wowhead.com/?petcalc#0szG0rMzb0or
Why, first its a Tenacity pet, and it has a attack Swipe ... much like a Bear Druids(hit all around the Teddy) on a 3.5 CD, then Thunderstomp, on a 7 sec CD. Plus, i use a macro, that automatically targets the Bear for Misdirection. The talents show you, i gone for durance. With Blood of the Rhino and Spirit bond ... 50% more heal for him, the Glyph Mending 40% more heal for mending, i heal around 2250 HP a tick. Then Guard Dog and Silverback.
One tip, put the Cower skill onto the pet bar, and turn off the Autocast. If the moment happens, that he gets a Damage spike, just click on the Cower(40% fewer damage received) and use Mend Pet.
Using this, i did solo the entire Zul Drak Amphitheater Quest chain ^^. The last one was the only one kill my Bear, but ... i should not try to kill the Mammoth he sits on, instead attack him ^^. 2nd time he was going down. ;p
