Auction House Triumphs, Tragedies, and Silliness

Unread post by Arwyn »

Every once in awhile you've gone to the Auction House, aka AH, to find items or sell items. Sometimes when looking for things you luck out and come across an item, (a weapon, gear, non-combat pets) with a below normal gold price and you triumphantly get it before someone else does. Sometimes you come across an item that you have to get into a bidding war with another player and tragically you lose. And sometimes you come across someone trying to sell vendor trash with a price you'd see on a blue item in the AH.

So what items where you lucky enough to find and buy at a real sweat price or even win after a bidding war.
What items did you lose during a bidding war if you ever went through one.
And what silly things have you seen listed for far more than what their worth in the AH. Or what silly things have you seen people doing in the AH.

For me, the only thing I was lucky to find was an Azure Whelpling for 200g.

Well, I found the bow Hurricane up for 1G 42S buyout. Some retard with auctioneer I reckon. Bought it on Tael, and relisted it. It helped greatly towards Epic Flight on two characters. Yay!

I also put [Weeds] on for 500G, and got it solld. (Its vendor trash you get trough fishing.)

I also exist on DeviantArt.

I don't have the patience for bidding wars. Every time I bid on anything I lose it. So I usually just buyout, or suck it up and deal with not having the item.

Most of my 'triumphs' were just mats....people putting up gems or frost lotuses for a fraction of their price. I always snap mats up quick because I'm bound to use them later, even if I had no plans for it at the moment.

I tried to sell some of the raunchy books you pickpocket off random characters once, but they didn't sell. Oh well. :P

I don't know if this counts, but I remember once walking into the Stormwind AH to see about a dozen ninjas and pirates (Courtesy of Deviate Delights) jumping around and dancing on the balcony above the Auctioneers. I have absolutely no idea how they got up there, but it was certainly hilarious. I think I still have a screenshot floating around that I took of them all dancing and belting out several "CHEESE"es.

Edited my first post so this would count because it reminded me off all the times during vanilla WOW I got to watch semi-naked female NEs dancing behind the auctioneers in the IF AH.

*dies of jealousy* O_O

I still need to get a Firefly...I farm the ones in Zangarmarsh occasionally, but I have terrible luck when it comes to drop rates. It took me over a year to get my black dragon whelp from the Badlands.

The only fireflies I've seen on the AH go for around 5k on my server. -.-

I found Hurricane and a salt shaker when I went looking for them. Bow was 400g I think, shaker was pretty cheap. I like finding things when I look for them, and they're at decent prices.

I swear I'm about ready to change servers though, because the Scryers AH is so full of people who pick outrageous prices. Things like 10g each -- EACH -- for linen cloth. Lots of dumbarse prices like that, and it's gotten to where I often have to save items I want to sell, and wait for the price to level out to where it's supposed to be. Like, I'll often go hunting for deeprock salt, and end up with stacks of elemental earth. The only listings are 20g for one, and I'm comfortable with selling them less than 5g each, if that. Not like they were hard to get. I know if I put some up at a cheaper price, they'll just get bought by merchants, so I wait.

I just get really irked when I sell something with the intention of the buyer actually needing it, but then a merchant buys it and resells for an outrageous price, and it sits there for several days. I don't mind merchanting, it's the reselling at grossly-inflated prices that bugs me. And Scryers is full of them.

However, happy story: while back I found one of the giant herb bags (I wanna say it was the Emerald Bag), think it was around 700g or so, and I bought it for my alchemy alt. Then, I mailed a thank you note to the maker. She (I got the impression it was a "she") replied, thanking me for buying it, then asked why I'd be thanking her. I replied saying that I knew it took a lot of effort to make some of these things, and besides, it's the polite thing to do. She replied with a frostweave bag :)

Also, I was happy when someone bought my deviate hatchling for 350g, especially because another one appeared the next day for 1950  Far as I know, it never sold.

I sold 19 Saronite Ore (single ore, not stacks) for 25g per ore. Raised the market by like 10g for a week by accident, but it was good money.

My best auction house triumph ever: Getting a Lifelike Mechanical Toad schematic for a mere 250g when they go for 2k to 4k on my server. The toads themselves sell for over 100g a pop. My engineer was very happy that day ;)

Tragedy -

Saw a guy on the wow forums sell a battered hilt for 1400 gold rather than 14,000 and he wanted Blizzard to refund him...

WINRARS -

I used to get the bombs from Halaa in the burning crusade. They were BoE at one point so you could trade them.
They had a tooltip saying "Throws a fiery ball at your enemy for 14,000 damage" or something along those lines, and mentioned nothing about having to be on a Halaa combat flight path. Used to sell them 2g each bomb, and they sold like wildfire for a few weeks before I think people caught on LOL
