Found a problem! Well typo...
"Hyena switches her tail from side to side."
should be swishes.

Couldn't you just set your pet family Crab for your Ghostcrawler crab? There is an option to change pet families pet pet just like you can set gender. Or does it not work like that?
Edit: Nevermind, I just remembered that only changed the family that is displayed to non-petemote people.

Re: PetEmote Addon - New stuff 11/15/10
Eh....it doesnt sound right to me. Switching sounds like shes lifting her tail and setting it down somewhere else, which doesnt look right for a dog. Swishing gave off more of a tail wag impression. that emote went off during the dungeon bosses and people were questioning me if it was right or not. Felt a little embarrassing that I couldn't give them a straight answer on whether it was supposed to be like that or not.Teigan wrote:No, it's switches. It's a valid use of the word.Taluwen wrote:Found a problem! Well typo...
"Hyena switches her tail from side to side."
should be swishes.Though, perhaps not currently a common one. I could change that.
So....yeah....might be best to change it. ^^;

Switches would imply a sharper movement, not dissimilar to what you would get from an agitated cat for example, whereas swishing as you say gives off more of a tail-wag impression.

Can always add an adjective/ending to fake the same meaning - something like "swishes his tail frantically from side to side, trying to burn off some excess energy." That one's crappy, but you get the idea.

Actually Kalli I really like that one since Hyenas have been seen doing that in the wild. Seems fitting and not crappy at all.

You can probably move switches to when they areTeigan wrote:Well, since "switches" seems to be an uncommon and awkward sounding term to people, I'll go ahead and change that. Like Anyia said, it is meant to give a more "agitated" feel, as hyenas are kinda hectic little things. But, swishes can work too, since it may make more sense to people.

Re: PetEmote Addon - New stuff 11/15/10
Hello, kinda new to the forums but love the PetEmote Addon so thought I jump in. May I begin with the awesome work done? The more my pet feels alive the happier hunter I am. I’m aware the emotes are supposed to be random, however it never fails to amaze me how oddly accurate a reaction my pet has to a situation or conversation. Whether it be an event in game, a conversation in party/raid/guild chat or even over vent, I get the feeling my pet has more situational awareness of their surroundings then some of my teammates.
I apologize beforehand if there is already a post about this but I wanted to get some feedback/suggestions. I realize the spirit beasts emotes sadly do not account for a bear/wolf (read several posts on this) and soon to be crab as it is extremely difficult to account for the many different models. So I decided to make "custom" emotes for my cub/pup. I decided the easiest place to start was to combine both spirit beasts with their respective family model (ie spirit beast/bear for Arcturis and spirit beast/wolf for Skoll) and from there edit emotes to remove some of the more feline aspects, combine others, etc. So far I really like the result.
Here is where I got stuck, well at least for Skoll. I want to incorporate his unique skin model, the lightening crackling; however I found it difficult to find a phrase I like. Here are some examples jumping around in my head (please note most of these are not originals, just reworded/reworked phrases to better fit the pet):
"Skoll" snarls at %t threateningly, fur crackling.
"Skoll" sniffs at %t's hand, accidentally zapping the fingertips with his/her static.
"Skoll" nuzzles his/her masters/mistresses leg giving her/him static cling.
"Skoll shakes his/her leg trying to get rid of that annoying sock.
I appreciate any help/feedback. Keep up the awesomeness!
Side note, I went through the pages, and not sure if I'm blind or not but haven't seen this mentioned. You can create custom emotes for specific pets using the pet name, which is how I'm doing Skoll/Arcturis along with a few other pets (sometimes I want my dwarf's wolf to behave differently then my Tauren's wolf) which works for me since I rarely use repeat names. So far working perfectly for my spirit bear, had to reload for the spirit wolf but things going smoothly.

Re: PetEmote Addon - New stuff 11/15/10
While the emotes for him are nice, we probably cant cause...well...he's the only thundery spirit beast and its divided by families. So the spirit beasts have to be as generic as possible.
But the emotes are REALLY cute though. I wish we could use specific mobs for each SB. x3

I had no clue that was possible, so I don't think it was mentioned here. Is this tied to your pet's name or the source pet's name? Cause if it's the latter, that would be amazing for the addon in general. If it's the former (which seems more likely), it'll be nice for PetEmote users to tweak things on their end.

@Taluwen, thanks for the feedback.
No matter how hard I try, it always comes out cute! Oh well, not a bad place to be.
@Kalliope, thanks for the welcome! /bow. I believe its pet's name, that is what I use however. Not very tech savvy (read -none at all-) so no idea about source pet since never tried that approach.
Was reading Jorna's guide on the site about custom emotes tutorial and down towards bottom mentions using pet name in editing lua. Since I am very nervous touching that I opened the editor and worked from there. Where it says "Add configuration" it has the pet name option, type your pet name there and press enter. Then over on import just import the families you want. For example, as I mentioned before I import the spirit beasts and bear emotes for my Arcturis named Barend and from there I tweak. There is a flaw/error however that I should mention. Occasionally the pet name will go to untitled, even after hitting the save button. All you have to do however is go and rename it again to your pet name and hit save and load up again. If you have multiple pet names there, may have to look over the emotes to figure out which is which. I'm not sure why that occurs and hopefully that is a bug Jorna can look at? *puppyeyes* Anyways, I hope that can at least help some users get even more mileage from this amazing addon!

Re: PetEmote Addon - New stuff 11/15/10
Yeah. I'd love it if you had instructions for that. :3 Cause I totally would love to make custom emotes for each spirit beast.
Re: PetEmote Addon - New stuff 11/15/10
@Taluwen
1) Open PetEmote Editor from addon folder
2) Click on Add Configuration button. Click on Pet Name and enter specific pet name and press enter
3) With pet name highlighted in list, click on Import and select desired families for emotes (ie Spirit Beast, Turtle, Imp, etc...)
4) Make tweaks! Be sure to click he Save button in the corner.
5) Exit Editor and start up game as usual.
If the emotes do not work, open editor and check to see if pet name renamed to untitled. If so, just rename, save and reload game.

Should it be the actual pet name or the mob/pet name?Kathrane wrote:@Taluwen

So four of the five new pet families will be live tomorrow! Keep notepad open to jot down ideas so we can get beetles, dogs, foxes, and monkeys caught up with the others as quickly as possible.

I think some of the wolf emotes should be moved to dog. A lot of them seem more dog-like than wolf like.Kalliope wrote:So four of the five new pet families will be live tomorrow!
