Corehounds: Bosses vs. Normal. They SOUND different!
Dear Mania and Friends,
For the sake of Science, yesterday I went on a Corehound-taming crusade. I tamed Chromaggus, Magmadar, Gomegaz, the Beast, and a standard red corehound in Molten Core.
I'm here to report the results, which I think may be of interest to you all.
First of all, NONE of the corehounds keep the boss tag, even though Chromaggus and Magmadar have it before you tame them. I'm assuming this means no pets at all keep the boss tag, but let me know if I'm wrong.
Chromaggus is awesome. In addition to the totally different model, all of his sound effects are totally different from any other pet, except he keeps the stomping sounds. But he has no burning sound of course, and it's great to not have to listen to that all the time.
But the REALLY interesting ones are Magmadar and The Beast. Why, you ask? Their models look exactly the same as the other red corehounds. I tamed them just to see if they kept the boss tag, and I assumed they were otherwise identical to any other corehound.
However, MAGMADAR AND THE BEAST'S SOUND EFFECTS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT.
First of all, they don't do the characteristic Corehound stomping at all. They are stealth walkers. It's wonderful to not have to listen to stomping.
Second, their burning sound is very different. Most corehounds sound like a bonfire. Magmadar and the Beast both sound more like simmering hot coals: A little quieter, but a totally different noise, and it sounds hot.
Third, their growls/roars are completely different from other corehounds. They're a little quieter, but are more of a gurgly-growl.
Overall, I like the sound effects of Magmadar and The Beast WAY better than the other red corehounds. I wonder if this could warrant a note in Petopia, that Magmadar and The Beast have the same visual model as other red corehounds, but a different sound effects model...
Gomegaz and a regular Molten Core Corehound are all pretty similar. Gomegaz is a different color, but has exact same sound effects as every other normal red and green corehound.
I hope you find this information useful!

The Dash bug has apparently been fixed, so the talent points should be fine. I confess that I haven't reset my CH's talents to check.

Odd, Blizzard said they fixed it. Had you specced into Dash before 4.03 went live? It was dead weight then, so I left it off, but if it's active now ...

Re: Corehounds: Bosses vs. Normal
Dash is working now, but you may have to retrain your pet to get it working.
Does Chromaggus have any different animations? Or is the standard 'stand there panting/both heads rear back to roar' as the other corehounds?
I've always been disappointed that some otherwise very cool pets do pretty much... nothing when idle (worg being the worst offender, with its repetitive head shake). Compared to my core hound pup pet, my grown-up corehound is a boring old man.

Re: Corehounds: Bosses vs. Normal
Just out of interest my Beast corehound has been given the new sound effects described above. He doesn't stomp around anymore, his fire sounds like coals burning.
Strange indeed (he was tamed pre 4.0.1)

Re: Corehounds: Bosses vs. Normal. They SOUND different!
I've updated the original post with information about The Beast, who has indeed switched his sound effects in 4.0.3, and now uses the same sounds as Magmadar.
Spread the word about this cool detail for "boss corehound" sound effects!
