Taming Sunblade Dragonhawk

Unread post by Yorkiemum »

I've been able to get into Sunwell Plateau. I just grouped with an alt and converted to raid.
There has been a post on wowhead that some were able to solo tame this guy. I zoomed in and FD, then zoomed in more to the second room where there is a single DH flying around a statue (past the two that block the front and are part of a group of 4-5).
Once I stood against the wall, I was in the top left part of the room, and I had ample opportunity to
tame this. I'd drop a trap and begin tame once it flew just in front of me. It looked like it was far enough to
tame and not draw aggro. Nope. No matter how far I was into the corner, once taming began the other mobs that were on the other side of the circle it was pathing, always got to me.

I have not been in that area in a year or more and I don't think there are any others further in the next room.
I could get another 80 hunter to help, but really I'm not sure that would help.

Is this worth it. is it doable? Any advise?
(doable maybe - as 2 posts on wowhead state they have done it solo)

I did this solo-tame as well. In my case, I fired a snake trap and frost trap in front of the mobs in the first room, waited for the pat to get to about the 7 o'clock position, then jumped in and started my tame. I wore my tanking outfit so I didn't take as much damage, and by the time my dragonhawk was tame I was at about half(ish) health. Even a low-geared 80 should be able to survive the onrush, though it'll probably be a close thing!

Since you were able to buy time with the frost and snake time, I might give it a try.
I get to almost the end of the tame. If only I had 3 more seconds. ;)
I also used a haste pot, that didn't seem to do much. Now, my gear was getting trashed every time
I had to rez, do I remember correctly that during a tame it is how much life you have and not how much
armor you have? I was not always repairing. Maybe some good stamina pots would help.
I have just one set of armor, as I don't raid due to my profession. So, I'll just have to look tough!
I can get a guildie who is a level 80 hunter to come in and basically be the added distraction. If he could get the mobs that seem to come after me, to beat on him and his pet for a while, that might help. Anything to buy 3-4 more seconds.

I wish we could have an instant tame we could use oh,,,once a week and only on one mob.
It would be really helpful for those rares who we have to worry about others killing it while we tame.
King Krush is one sad tame at times. People of all classes know hunters would like to tame it and so many will kill it while it is being tamed. Same thing went for loque. We need one good trick in our tool case that we can use when really needed, but not over use.

So, I'll try this again tomorrow or on the weekend. It would be cool if the next person who tames this cutie to recored it and put it on you tube. I've found a lot help even on quests- on you tube.
I think I'm just more visual.

Thanks for your help.

Well for me, my 'tanking outfit' has mostly stamina on it; all the extra armor is side effects from agility on the armor. The stamina is the big help. A haste pot would probably do better for you than a stamina one, as taming faster will do better than dying slower, IMO.

Be aware, the frost trap didn't help a *ton*. And I'm not positive if the snakes pulled threat at all. However, even an extra half-second is an extra half-second they aren't hitting you. It can make a big difference.
