Pets fly 100 yards up in the air

I found after some testing that several parrots (but not Aotona), and some carrion birds like Spitflyer (but not Angered arracoa protector for example) can fly straight up in the air 100 yards (hunters mark range) and attack mobs like these high flying ember wyrms that are other wise unaccessible for shot from ground level (40 yards). Chimaeras can't fly either. Any other information about that new ability?
