Exquisite Alliance Cities?

Unread post by Gimlion »

As a predominantly Ally player, it has surprised me that this has bugged me as much as it has, but has anyone taken a care to look at the updated artwork for maps? To me it seems as if the Alliance have received a much higher quality than the horde. While Silvermoon is close to how SW looks, it just doesn't compare IMO. Orgrimmar doesn't even get one of the Banners with it's name on it on the zone map... And if you look at the blasted lands, compare Nethergarde Keep, which is better than some of the Major Cities, then at Dreadmaul Hold, which simply has a non-3d small icon, similar to the older icons for maps... Even as a Ally player, it bugs me to no ends that they put so much more effort into Ally cities....

I dont think it's that they put so much into ally cities at all. The horde and alliance are VASTLY different in cultures. The horde(exception of silvermoon) is a lot more barbaric themed while the alliance(exception of Darnassus & Exodar) is more knightly themed.

While I agree with what you are saying, I would like to point out that it would still be possible to make larger '3D' map figures of the horde cities. Also, your point doesn't really make a huge difference, Darnassus is very well done as well IMHO.

I love the new maps but I haven't noticed this - I'll have to have a look. Either way, the "culture" of either faction is a moot point since this is a map you, as the explorer, are carrying. It's your map, not the alliance's or the horde's.

If anything, the horde should see alliance towns as icons and vice versa, considering you're basically making the map as you travel. Unless, of course, you explore those cities too...

'Barbaric'? I prefer the term 'low environmental impact' thank you very much! =P

XD Well yanno what i mean....rofl.

and I agree with a post above. If you're on your horde toon, rp wise, you really couldn't care less if an alliance town looks shinier than yours.....infact, your toon wouldnt know that typically unless somehow they go there.

I don't think Alliance is 'better done' than Horde. I sincerely doubt the Tauren want little brick streets all over the Earthmother. I do not think orcs really dig castles. And let's not start on the havoc the Forsaken wreak on a good paint job. It's just part of the flavor and I bet it would be boring as all out if everything was a clone of Stormwind.

That is not what we're talking about at all though. I could care less about the insides of the cities, as I think they all look fabulous... This topic is about what the cities look like on our Maps... If you bother to look, you'll notice that the Alliance seems much more done than the Horde, especially with one of the Horde capitals not even having the special 'Capital banner'...

Also take a look at Nethergarde or Theramore. Few, if any horde QUEST HUB cities get that much artwork put into them, and I don't see any particular reason why they couldn't have... Also note that this is from an Alliance player, so I'm not biased or prejudice against the Alliance, it's just something I noticed.
