Aoe pets

Unread post by Adams »

I have made many hunters but never seen them through to the end, until recently i decided to quest up loremaster since the last patch. I have noticed a few times there were spots i wish i had some sort of aoe type pet.

At one time on an old hunter i had a gorilla then later read bears and croclisks were the best since they made most pets the same.

since the shattering is there any one or two better aoe type pets for lower levels? is it still bears and croclisks?

Really, no one pet trumps for AoE, with 2 exceptions (and require level 69).

Any Tenacity (Tank) pet can learn Thunderstomp. I suppose the Bear would be the best, with Demoralizing Roar, if only to lower the physical incoming damage by 10%.

Otherwise, if you want a true AoE pet, it requires you to be Level 69, specced Beast Mastery, for their final talent. Then, you tame either a Worm or a Chimaera, as they have true AoE skills, that do damage, and a fair bit.

Worms I feel are slightly better, due to also having Thunderstomp, but then Chimaeras do more damage slightly, being a Cunning pet and not Tenacity.
Skrimir - Level 85, and never did a single Northrend or Cataclysm Quest/Dungeon. Gogo Archaeology!
My Stables - Still trying to find a name for my Raptor, in a Final Fantasy genre-styling.

The Worm burrowing ability wipes aggro from them, so it is no longer ideal for aoe tanking. >.>

When facing lower level mobs, as one often does when working on Loremaster, the threat wipe isn't much of an issue. Send in the worm, burrow, let loose (hopefully) before the mobs all die. Still, on those, thunderstomp works rather well, too.

If you just send in the worm to attack mobs, and then cast burrow as soon as it has aggro, all of those mobs will reset and your multi-shot will evade bug on you. The only way to actually benefit from burrow while soloing is to stand on top of your worm and drop traps while casting burrow.

If you search the forums you can find a post by me detailing a multiple shot macro that also serves to activate a worm or chimera special. Works to optimize aoe output. I prefer chimera if grouped for this due to a much higher single target dps.

I much prefer chimaeras, so much that I have tamed a second one to function as a pseudo tank. Their ability is spammable since your pet will regen most if not all of the focus cost while channeling, and movement doesn't interrupt channeling. Oh, and you can use it when out of combat. My chimaera has a strange tendency to blast my friends with this :?
