The Hillsbrad ones, with mushrooms? I don't think they'll keep it, since the mushrooms are separate "mobs".WildcatTM wrote:Never mind my wolf post. What about those bears with the eggs?

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
The reason I said it doesnt work on pets that dont keep their visual on death, is because i noticed.Acherontia wrote:Btw, has anyone tried this method with pets that don't keep their debuffs after death? (Making them despawn upon death+tame with Revive Pet?)
I tried like 20 pets, and it only worked on those that did
since trying to use this method on every singly pet , takes like 40-50 minutes to do perfect at least 3 times, it is lucky for me that I noticed this simple check-method to see wether the effect will stay : )
(also, it makes sense, they loose it upon death , and we killed them while taming, that is why i desperately want a way to make beasts vanish without killing them.)

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
VERY cool! I'm not personally fond of the oil-covered pets, but maybe my husband will want an oiled hawk to go with his oiled wolf we acquired for him a couple months ago?
We'll check it out and post a screenshot if the tame is successful. Thanks so much!

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
I wish the Lone Hunter would spawn faster. I suspect this will work, but timing a 15 second immolation trap with a 10 second tame isn't as easy as it sounds apparently

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Acherontia: its easyer to make a rogue backstab them, and "Focus" you to see when they should hit.
Also they can sap the beast, making it all a bit more comfterable.
The Akkarai Hatchling wont despawn after summon, my stopwatch is on 10:25 already xD
appearently this summoned bird is permanent untill he looses his aggro target.
Maybe feign death after tame does the trick
Ill keep experimenting *puts on white doctors coat and freaky goggles*
Edit: it did not do the trick qq
I will continue on them later, Lets have a look at that wolf xD

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Try getting someone to kill it perhaps--I can't ask anyone to help me with this wolf atm. I did it for the oil-stained and it took us a good 20 minutes to get right, and the slow respawn on this makes me hesitant to ask anyone to waste their time on it (I'm a hunter and I love finding these things out, so for ME it isn't a waste of time, but for my poor guildmates it would be!).
On the plus side, it's just a matter of timing. The Lone Hunter has 3170 hp, and by some miracle, my Immolation Trap does -exactly- that.

Acher, attacking your targets so they have 2200-ish left like the oil hawk, for a serpent sting does the job too.
good luck anyway, im going to cook me a dinner.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Enjoy
Serpent Sting & Trap should be about the same tbh, it's ticking for damage--just a matter of getting lucky. I've had it so he dies & gets tamed, but I don't think I was quick enough with the "Revive Pet" cast!

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Maybe I just don't pay attention as much as I should... but even with your gear off at L.80... wouldn't it be possible that a miscalculation (a crit, glyph, or a minor loss in damage of the DoT) on Serpent Sting would cause the Hawk to die even 2-3 seconds sooner (or later) every single time that you tried this?
Making this very difficult to do...
I'll need to use a macro to shoot only one shot of SS onto the hawk, then target something else... while clicking like mad back onto the hawk to start the Tame Beast...
or can you just do:
/use Serpent Sting
/cast Tame Beast
Or do you need that little extra time from untargeting yourself and targeting the hawk again in order for this to work?
P.S. Blizzard. Need more Stable Slots. plzkthx.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Edit--I think serpent sting's on the GCD, so using that and spamming:
/stopattack
/cast Tame Beast
Should work, or just
/cast Serpent Sting
/stopattack
and then hitting Tame Beast.
Stopattack should stop the autoattack iirc. Or hit Escape or strafe and click the attack button to stop it
I found that it got irritating when it crit, though (even naked) and it took many attempts.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
just spent a while trying to get the akkarai hatchling i cant see a way of getting it at the moment, tried the garwal method with wyvern stinging then waiting and taming, perhaps cant be done as they seem to despawn about 2 secs after death dunno if that matters at all.
Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
the deviate blood talon raptor from echo isle does not retain the black cloud mist upon death.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
after doing the ghost carrion bird thing and reading this, i'm wondering: does this work with the ghost effects on the disembodied jormungar?

You can tame that one without any tricks, though, so there's no need to do it the hard way.mrlinno wrote:after doing the ghost carrion bird thing and reading this, i'm wondering: does this work with the ghost effects on the disembodied jormungar?

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
This ghost effect of the jormungar is held even during a normal tame. (though your pet tab might show it normal skinned, it is ghostly when actually summoned.)mrlinno wrote:after doing the ghost carrion bird thing and reading this, i'm wondering: does this work with the ghost effects on the disembodied jormungar?
Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
It seems that if the pet despawns before the "flash" that normally occurs when taming pet, that it will keep whatever 'buffs' it had, but if the flash goes off it will lose any such buffs and become normal again. Time your revives well!

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
doesn't the disembodied jormungar have the blue smokey stuff (like the carrion bird) when before it is tamed though? is there any way of keeping that post tame?Phoronid wrote:This ghost effect of the jormungar is held even during a normal tame.
