Just for fun added a little extra to his summon. If you get a Drowned Thunder Lizard Tail from the Ord fishing daily the pulse it sends out when you use it matches the colors of this bird and it's mist. Made a quick macro to use it on summon

/cast call pet 4 (or whatever active slot you keep em in)
/use Drowned thunder lizard tail

I decided to give this a try too. It was a problem at first because I have a lot of haste gear on and I had also taken advantage of the second spec now that it's 10G. I added survival to BM. I used the survival to solo tame the blue dragonhawk. I must have speed up the taming process much more than I realized, because having the stopwatch out showed me my taming time was close to 7-8 sec.
Once I took my gear off, that seemed to help. I found that I needed to begin the tame just as 50 rolled up.
I don't know how accurate that is because a lot depends on how fast you begin the stop watch once the bird spawns. This was basically the same as the old worgen tame. The change from mob to pet has to happen just at the very end. It can be random. I do think this tame was tougher tho. But maybe my timing is off.

Cute birdie!

When I saw this post, I immediately set off for Blade's Edge. It took about five tries, but I eventually got it. All I did was watch for the spawn and start carefully counting the seconds. When I killed the wing guard, I froze the bird, stopped counting, and added the seconds I'd counted up to 10 (I assumed my tame time was around there since my haste is pathetic on Cailan). Then I waited for the freezing trap to hit that number, and...

My high latency is making this a hair-tearingly difficult tame to pull off. I've been at it for a couple of hours now with nothing to show for it but a heap of dead arrakoa.

My brother finally got this after I'd say...about 20 tries tonight. Even untargeted, this bird is very bright. The last shot is of me and Ysuran (my green carrion bird) and my brother and his bird all together, and as you can see, his is a lot brighter. It really is quite beautiful. :)

Thank you so much for the guide! Let us hope they don't lose the mist as Nemera's did. :(

(In the first screen shot, the bird is targeted; in the rest, it is not.....and still very glowy and pretty!)

This is a very good question. A key component to getting these pets to keep their special effects seem to be to avoid getting the "flash" at the end of a tame. When a pet levels, it also tends to do the "flash"... Does anyone with one of these pets dare to test the theory that the level flash can remove these effects?

My guess is that the level flash you see when you finish a tame coincides with Tame Beast cleansing the beast of all buffs and debuffs as it becomes a hunter pet. I'm not entirely sure if your pet gets healed to full like a player does once they level, or if any debuffs get cleansed. Haven't heard of it happening to the oil wolves, which are cleansed by entering arenas, so I'd be surprised if this bird lost the glow upon leveling. Looks like I'll have to tame one, and go do a whole bunch of different activities with it while keeping a close eye on the glow effect.

That is, after I take my last final on Wednesday and go on break for the rest of the month :|
