Griffley, the loyalty system has been gone for quite a while now. All pet happiness affects is how much damage your pet deals. No more pets running away.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
wait.....wait......if they stop making suggestions without checking first, why would they need to ask you? And besides, maybe they cant check right now because they're at school,or work and can't get online to...you now...check.Griffley wrote:they both do NOT.
I have checked many many pets.
please stop suggestions without checking.
I don't want to come off as a douche, but that was a pretty snarky response. Really? "stop making suggestions without checking?"
Your new at this, huh? That's what testers do....take suggestions and check them out,not what you did!
Sorry if I got this wrong,it just rubbed me the wrong way....carry on,all!

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Sorry I already replied to that, it wasnt meant harsh, I made a list now of pets I already checked in my complete guide, any other suggestions are ofcourse welcome
and Back when I made that post, taming it was madly hard with the death thing, so yeah thats why they would probably want to ask for help even though they are there.
In case you didnt notice, i did add "Please" I was trying to make my point straight but not beeing too harsh :O

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
this is good to keep alive because I feel that the PetAbandon trick is likely going to go away soon, thus forcing hunters late in the game to try these methods of "griffing" as you call it

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
I just got the oil hawk - using a different method for timing his death. I used Wyvern Sting and tamed with about 4 seconds left on the sleep. He takes two ticks and dies on the second tick everytime, so I just adjusted from there...
As a side note - what weapon do you have equipped to shoot with? The weapons have stats too... just curious.

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
my apologies if this is redundant, but maybe someone may find this helpful from my experience with this oiled bird tame. now what i did on my main at 85 is that i stripped to nothing, got the lowest lvl grey bow on the AH i could find (was for a lvl 40) grabbed a haste food buff (liver-dogs), a haste flask, haste potions, and switched over to BM spec to have the corehound available for ancient hysteria. i had tried with just a plain SS but even bare nekkid i was one shotting the birds. so i decided to try something a lil different. i lined up one of the fledgelings and got to minimum shooting range on it. (having a few things close together temporarily on my buttons helped a lot too) i hit ancient hysteria, dismissed pet, popped the haste pot, shot SS on the bird and tame beast. i was always too fast and not very successful in trying this way and didnt feel like taking off any of the buff stuff so i tried a different method with my main spec which is Surv. what ran thru my mind was to try black arrow which ticked slower for me and is only 500 points more damage than what the hawk has as health. i still had on the haste food and flask, so again i line up to minimum distance and pop the pot and shot black arrow and then tame beast. on the 3rd time of doing this it was a successful tame. now i didnt have to do a rez pet at all. when i got the error message saying my pet was not dead, i checked by trying to just tame the closest tame-able mob. i got the error message of too many pets. I then did the log out to char screen and i had the brown hawk flying by my side, when i then logged back in all i had to do was summon the bird and he had his slick oil coat. keep on tryin to all who are tryin !

I can understand some people wanting to tame these appearance buff pets the "hard" way, but the other way is sooo less stressful and usually quicker...
That way is so much easier... IMO.Pent wrote:How to tame appearance buff pets: (the following is VERY important) but you have to be at least level 18 on the hunter you want it on and have two pet slots purchased... and have no pets out or dismissed ... in other words you have NO pets on your character unless they are in the stable.
Make the "/script PetAbandon()" macro and put it someplace that you won't hit it on accident.
Step One: Position your L.18+ Hunter near the mob/beast that you want, and start taming one.
Step Two: Your hunter should just let the tame go through and let the mob/beast get tamed. When this one is tamed it will NOT have the appearance buff. You will need to DISMISS the pet... do not abandon it.
So now you will have a pet in one slot with the other slot empty.
Step Three: Then start taming the next beast (that has the same appearance buff as the one you just tamed use to have) as you did before EXCEPT you want to cram on the PetAbandon macro with 2-3 seconds left on the tame til the mob/beast is tamed and abandoned (or was it)... now go and try to tame another beast (just try to tame something) if it says you have too many pets then log out and see if you have a pet on your character select screen... then log back in and Call Pet and you should have the appearance buff pet. If it doesn't tell you you have too many pets and you start to tame the next beast just let the tame complete and abandon that pet, but do not get rid of the one pet in your other slot til you have the appearance buff pet. You will need to repeat this step as many times as it takes.
I had a little bit of trouble doing this on a realm that had low latency for me, but after I loaded up a few downloads/youtube videos my latency went up and I had no problem doing this after 2-3 tries.
(I did not come up with this procedure and I do not take any credit for it.... it was in another Appearance Buff taming thread and it worked so well that I try to share it as much as possible here on these forums.)

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
i am sorry Pent, i dont know how to do the quote thing but i have a question.. how are you to get a lv 18 hunter out into a level 70 zone without it dieing and aggroing everything in the zone? I found the pet abandon thing to not work for me as it did exactly that, abandoned the pet, no glitch or bug ect. I was also doing this at lvl 85 and i was oneshotting or a single tick of the SS was killing things even buck naked and the lowest lvl grey item weapon i could find on the AH. the attempts at getting said pet from the post is the same, about 3 tries. it was just a different form that seemed as easy and more controlled with no potential loss of the pet by accident. i just thought i would post my findings as per what i thought was requested in the taming of this pet as i thought i read that some along with the original posters friend were still having troubles in obtaining this per original script. my apologies if i did not follow the script of how this was done the first time.
i meant no disrespect to anyone, i'll go crawl back under my rock now...

You don't have to be L.18 to tame them... you just have to be AT LEAST L.18 to do my method...zyggie wrote:i am sorry Pent, i dont know how to do the quote thing but i have a question.. how are you to get a lv 18 hunter out into a level 70 zone without it dieing and aggroing everything in the zone? At level 18 you get the ability to purchase the second pet slot... You can do the technique I mentioned at any level passed L.18, BUT you must have at least two open slots on you (not counting stable slots at all).

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
i have tamed my oil hawk with only 1 slot open.. wasnt about to be left COMPLETELY nakkies out there !
i have absoluetly zero luck with this abandon method, and was just letting others know there was a different way to accomplish the exact same thing that for some unexplained reason works as well
didnt mean to touch a nerve

I do think that you aren't understanding the method I posted though going by what you posted on the other thread (unless that wasn't you then I apologize), but you got it anyway so all is well.
Grats.

Very happy as i got a ll permed buff pet on both my hunters now.
Still cant get the arrakoa bird to keeps its look after death..any1 recently aka 4.06 got this pet to keep its look after death ..if you have please specify which method

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
First post on the forums but long time creeper..
Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful information. After lots of failed attempts at the serpent sting, etc way, finally got mine second try doing tame /script PetAbandon().
Got the wolf as well, first try.
Now off to go find Gondria again. ;/
Edit: I just noticed, I can't put some of it's usual spells on its action bar, is that normal?

Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
hey i found that the method used to tame the shadowform owl also works on the other hardcore tames except the misty condor and i havent had a chance to try it on the burning boar.
Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
Just tamed an Oiled Fledgeling and Oil-stained Wolf today, solo ( horde as well )
Re: [Guide] Taming the Oiled Hawk!
My first post on the forums as well, but here it goes!
I just did this about 2 minutes ago... had no luck with the PetAbandon macro, so I used Serpent Sting and hoped for the best... at level 70, with my BoAs, one auto shot and one serpent sting did enough damage to roughly get it to die at the same time. After about a half hour of trying, I got it, but forgot about spamming Revive Pet. Did it once more after taking a break, and I got it!
