The nerf to instance experience buggered our pets =/

Well now I guess Ill be looking to get a lvl 80 tank pet .. since I dont have any.. crud.. why couldnt they have held off until right before cata.
I would have lvled all my pets in dungeons before.. and yah I know theyll auto lvl to 3 behind your lvl but still if this is going to be what its like in a dungeons it may be brutal... especially if your lvl 85 and trying to lvl pets for raiding for specific buffs that are needed.

Nexus used to give me almost 2 full levels.. I now got.. 1 bar and a bit..

Since I suspect that Sasrei isn't the only one lacking a solid leveling pet, I decided to do a search.

Started out looking for all Tenacity pets that can be tamed as level 80's. Results.
Got a lot of results from the Shimmering Expanse and Kelp'thar Forest, which are out of the question for a little while at least. So, I eliminated those pets. Results.

So, it looks like your choices are very limited. You can tame a Drakkari Rhino in H Gundrak, a Scarab Beetle in Naxx, or simply tame one of the various worms found in the Storm Peaks. Since the latter is far more feasible, I'd recommend taming one of those. The problem is that you need to be BM.

Lowered the level I was looking for a tad, eliminated the exotic pets from my criteria, and wound up with two results. The level 80 Scarab Beetle that I mentioned above, and a level 79 boar known as Snorts. He's affiliated with the Alliance, though, and in the middle of Frosthold.

Beyond that, you'll jut have to tame a beast in one of the underwater areas (where you can find level 80 crabs and a turtle, ready to tame) once they become available.

You know honestly, I will put up with the exp nerf for pets. Pets now auto lvl up to 3 lvls below you instead of 5. Seems like a fair trade to me. Yup yup.

Agreed, I am very disappoint by this change knowing i have multi 77 pets in the stable to level............I will however take another hunter pet bug though............two weeks before cata hunters can have multi pets up at a time!...............one week before cata hunters have immortal pets!.............cata comes out hunters have.............come on blizzard, don't let me down! So THAT is what happened to it? Dang, I figured it was bugged cause I was trying to level my ghost wolf that I just snagged using the abandon pet trick.

Thanks for the heads up! I been on a spree today and have Harakiss, Buru and Rokad to level up too. Guess its back to Northrend!

So i've used the easy way (macro'ed abandoned way) to get a few pets after seeing this. However while I don't really get why they nerfed xp gain for pets in instances, is anyone else having trouble gaining exp outside of them too? killing Lv 78 mobs with my pets only gives me something stupid like 100 - 200 exp a kill. Is it just bugging for me because I used the abandon method? Getting my flaming boar (the only pet I care about atm lol) to 80 will be a pain in the arse now.

There needs to be an area where you can drop a pet off and have it graze, and gain levels on its own. maybe 5g a level, and you gain 1 level per 2 hours or something.

Time to start thinking about abandoning some pets.... sigh.... Not gonna run 8 heroics to level a pet one level. Must cut down what I won't level.

As well, You're only going to be able to keep 1-2 pets leveled with you until 85 anyhow as you level. There's obviously no reason to abandon all but 1-2 pets. All your other pets will auto-level and be at 82 when you reach 85, and leveling them will be just fine by then.

That would be a lot of unnecessary coding, and you DON'T need all your pets at 80. They'll just fall behind again when Cata hits anyway. It's a wasted effort, and really, it's just four more days, so it's not like it's a month away.

I believe it's up to HIM on whether he needs the pets at 80 this week. He's the one playing the Hunter and using the pets. You don't know his raid schedule or what he has planned.

It will be possible to keep multiple pets leveled in Cata up to 85 ... perhaps those are the pets he needs to level. I don't think you should be telling people which pets they need to level and which they don't. He can play as he pleases. We all can.

I had have two (new) pets in particular I want to level with in Cata (a boar and Chromaggus), and until this is fixed, it looks like I won't be able to do that because I can't level them to 80 with the playtime I have left.

After I got ghost wolf, I hopped into heroics in hopes of quick leveling but getting dismounted in ToC and wolf dying right off the bat, it ticked me off and I was too scared to do more after another tame, but PRO TIP: doing a few laps around Sindgrosa's Fall (sp? lol sorry) got wolf to 80 in no time at all.

But that's not my point. Even in a raid you do just fine with a 77 pet, since it's a VERY low part of your damage. And as for BM, well, I feel safe to say that having, what, 2% lower damage for THREE. DAYS. won't make a difference. AT. ALL.

and no I don't raid as much as I want too- even now people are achieve and GS whores and choose those over people who have the gear but not the achieve but know the tacts. EVEN FOR ULDUAR

I don't care about dps, I just care about being able to rotate my stables a bit- oh sure I know Yas will have 3 for sure pets on her travels [Conri, Kalosa and Orthros] but I was going to stable Sunscale and use Carapace a beetle that I was gonna trudge to 80 for my 'tank and quest pet', you know to be on the safe side...

And well now it seems that it's to late- I hadn't realized there was that big of a problem, mean sure I managed to get Kalosa to 80, and think Abyssal[Ainamiss] and a ruby serpent to lv 79, but that took quite a fair bit of dungeon scrawling...

I just have an ocd of wanting all my pets to 80 or atleast within a capable level of keeping aggro.

And also, WORST- think about lowbie hunters, how does this affect them since it's affecting mobs near end game level for Wrath! I have two lv 77 hunters and a few coming up behind- but my lv 77 hunters have a majority of lv 74 pets cause OMG PETS or I just couldn't keep pets and stick to ones before the stable expansion...

So yeah does screwing over pet exp for lv 80s, also screw over my exp for my two lv 77's?

I didn't have the 'until my bags were filled with runecloth' time, but I can second this. It's especially bad when you're a pet-obsessed hunter like me. Back in TBC, I decided I wanted to test out a crab. But not just *any* crab. Oh no. I wanted a red crab. And back then, the highest level red crab was level 35. And I was level 70....

You guys (most of you) are acting like this is the end of the world... Most of your pets will level strongly from Cata Quests... And this Exp nerf won't persist in Cata Dungeons, just 80 HC, as blizzard does NOT want people power-leveling in these heroics w/o seeing any of the new content.
