Is there no reasoning with you?

My quote said nothing about punitive action.
Punitive action is at the discretion of the GM who discovers the person abusing a bug.
Some things are worth a ban. Some things are worth a warning.
Some things are too innocuous to deserve punitive action. Just because it's too mild for punitive action doesn't mean that it's not still an exploit.

You ever see a policeman arrest someone for loitering? It's illegal, but hardly anyone cares.

My quote was to prove a DEFINITIONAL point.

Where on earth do you see in any of my posts that I think Blizzard seeks to ban as many people as possible???
Your line of reasoning is a complete non-sequitur.

OK, let's knock it off. I'd be requesting a lock on this thread if it weren't a guide that someone had taken the time to prepare. Call me a hypocrite if you will, but the back-and-forth has to stop somewhere. If you guys want to debate what is and is not crossing the line when it comes to exploits, I'm sure you could make a thread in the WoW General forum for that purpose. Just please give Griffley his guide back ;)

Blizzard's ToS, Section 7, subsection C, item i: "(i) Using or exploiting errors in design, features which have not been documented, and/or "program bugs" to gain access that is otherwise not available, or to obtain a competitive advantage over other players;"

These pets are otherwise unavailable as we have caught them. It is an error in design that is utilized to get them with their effect.
It makes a distinction between that and the competitive advantage gained through exploitation.

If you're going to harp about a definition, back it up with Blizzard's resources.
I can back it up with the same ToS section you posted.

I can not speak on behalf of everyone, but I did not tame any of the new things to obtain a competitive advantage over anyone else.

As far as I have gone in taming each of these... I have not exploited any "error is design". I have used haste and well timed Tame Beast casts. (I did NOT use the Abandon macro)

Is it really a "feature"....? I don't consider it to be a feature, but me and you would have to know what Blizzard would consider to be a feature first.

I have not used any bugs to gain "access" to anything... and I can only speculate, but I am thinking that means I can not wall walk up a side of a cliff in order to get into an area that I am not supposed to be in. Also, since you could counter with I am "accessing" a skin that was unintended... you would have to know what "access" meant per Blizzard standards, but it being cosmetic and I did not change my game files... I seriously doubt it is what Blizzard is talking about.

(the following IS after I had went back and put the edit on my last post saying that it is an exploit, but considering how it is being used it could be a bad one, or a "good" one. [per Blizzard's standards anyway] So I did concede and said it was an exploit)

My definition of exploit is spot on. Blizzard will either see the taming of these beasts to be "bad" or "Meh, that's cool." It isn't the taming of the beasts to get the skins that worries me... it is the idiots who will use the exploit to ruin it for everyone and get everyone's new pets taken away or "fixed".

There shouldn't be someone out there that does NOT work at Blizzard saying how taming these pets are bad or even that they are an exploit, because no one knows how Blizzard will react or what Blizzard will call it. I think having someone here saying how BAD this is is what makes people upset the most. It isn't bad unless it is a clear-cut case of doing something purposely to gain an advantage.

The rest is up to Blizzard to decide.

Pet's aren't supposed to keep their effects or buffs on taming.

I'm done. Griffley, hope your thread doesn't get too contaminated with poor argumentation.

And you are.....?

I urge you to request a lock. I don't think the thread has fallen enough to deserve one yet, and since I am not the original thread starter, or an admin... I don't think anyone but them can request or do a lock.

And if you can somehow lock it... then that might be an exploit.

Alright, let's drop the arguments and just agree to disagree. There's too much going around in circles, it accomplishes nothing except to breed hostility. Take it to PM if you have to, but leave it out of this thread.

How do you know they aren't supposed to?

Maybe we have all been doing it wrong since L.1 (errr... L.10?) and we are starting to do it correctly now.

You can not tell me they are not supposed to keep their skin when tamed, because afaik... you don't work at Blizzard.

Oh... and normally I try to be nice about everything... or at least sarcastically funny... but you are a Debbie Downer. I will not call you a troll (anymore), because I honestly think you are trying to educate people on what YOU think Blizzard considers to be an exploit and how YOU think Blizzard will see it being bad. I honestly don't know for fact that is how you feel but the way you come off seems to me that you are just trying to take the opposite side on everything people say here.

And since Veph said to stop right before I hit Submit... this will be my last post in the thread. Well... unless some other pet is discovered and posted here and I start screaming like a little girl.

I have had feedback from blizzard about this.

Image

Looks like they knew about this already and are not happy with it as they are working twords a fix as they clearly dont want pets taimed this way.

and IMO use tame pet and then use a macro to abandon your pet should abandon your pet not let you keep it if that isnt a bug than i dont know what is and if you use it to gain somthing then you are exploiting that bug therfor its an exploit.

5th post down. No SSs, but it sounds like something a GM would say, and why not trust that person... Not trusting someone is what got us all fired up in the first place.

Quoted here for the lazy:
Kikanu wrote:I contacted a GM through a ticket today about the pet exp bug, and when they told me it was a glitch and asked if I had any other questions, I referred them to this thread, and told them of the ones I tamed; Sword wielding Lone Hunter, Ghost Wolf, Fire Pig, Shadow Owl, and Aura Arrakoa Protector. The GM commended me on getting the timing for the tames, and said it was completely fine to have. They also said it was clever use of mechanics, not an exploit, as the /script PetAbandon () is simply the same as right clicking your pet and doing so. Since you do it before the beast is truly your pet, however, you abandon the NPC in its place, not the pet itself. This means that the pet you now have is legitimately obtained, and you killed the NPC at the same time. Unfortunately, as the GM finished the discussion, I got disconnected, and could not log in for an hour. No ban, thank goodness, but I didn't catch a screenshot of the conversation :(

Also, Disembodied Jormungar keep the ghostly glow on death, but they disappear after dying. My settings were on max while killing them for the quest in Storm Peaks, and I accidentally crit it for 20k. It did the death animation, and had the glow as it despawned. I suspect that the macro will work on them if you time it right. Further testing by someone with no bad connection should be done :D

That doesn't sound like something a GM can say, approving as if he is the boss of it all.
GMs can't make decisions on their own like that?

Anyway, i'm awake and off into WoW to try and find something new!
good luck everyone
happy hunting

Default reply +1. I get those sometimes when i've sat there, online, waiting for several hours after submitting it, then I logout for two seconds and log back in, and ooooh, it's been solved while I was GONE.

Awesome guide.

So I tried to tame the armored boar with the fire.

I went out and did the chain quest to unlock Feed of Evil.

I had a shadow priest friend of mine (Hireln of Hydraxis) do the same thing.

I used all kinds of haste potions, elixirs, engineering, reforging, double haste proc trinkets, food, with the haste increase from my shadow priest friend.
I tried this for a while and just couldnt seem to get it.

Even worse when both trinkets proc I actually got slower in taming.

Well Hireln out of the blue says "Why don't you just start taming the pet and when it has about 2 sec left on the timer I will throw the torch".

I used the abandon pet macro and after 20 so tries got the tame.

I think this little step will save a lot of people time.

This shows that sometimes thinking outside the box works out great.

Has anyone shown a video of the Ghost Vulture?

I got Lone Hunter and the Armored Boar just fine but the Vulture has been a major pain.

I been spamming the macro and no luck.

After trying this on the Lone Hunter about 20 times I can't seem to get it to work. I assume because of the post above me that this hasn't been fixed or taken out of the game so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, When exactly do i need to stop spamming the macro, as soon as the taming cast ends? And do I need to for some reason need to be on the quest to kill the Lone Hunter?

It looks as though once again this needs repeating.
Using this taming method is now against Blizzard's TOS and if you're caught Blizzard will take action against you which could include a permanent ban.
I would strongly advise that these taming methods no longer be used.

Does anyone have the actual blue post concerning this matter? Did they manage to hotfix the taming method? Since Monday the 27th of Dec when I tamed The Lone Hunter and the Armored Boar to Tuesday the 28th of Dec's soft reset I have been having issues with the Ghost Vulture. If the abandon pet macro is illegal is the other timed methods still allowed?

It was on the December 13th patch notes:
December 13

General
Guild experience caps were being hit faster than expected. As a result, guild experience gained through questing has been reduced.
After hitting the weekly guild reputation cap, players will no longer receive the message that they're at the cap every time a quest is turned in.
It is no longer possible to activate Running Wild from a transform or shapeshift form (including Metamorphosis). When leaving a shapeshift form, worgen players will always be in worgen form and cannot toggle Two Forms while shapeshifted.
Players should no longer be unable to chat, or join or leave private chat channels after a realm is restarted for any reason.
Classes
Druids
Both Bear and Cat Form versions of Skull Bash are no longer able to be used to get to a target when there is no valid path available.
Hunters
It is no longer possible for hunters to tame pets in a way that allows them to keep any buffs the creatures had on them prior to being tamed.
From http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/1232869#blog

Edit: I suppose they should have said, "It should no longer be possible," rather than "It is no longer possible," because obviously people are still finding a way around it. I think the point is, regardless of what you (in general) interpret what they meant by "buff", we are not supposed to be taming any creature in such a manner that it retains an effect ("buff" or otherwise) that it would not otherwise have via conventional taming methods (i.e. pressing Tame Beast and only pressing Tame Beast).

Here's one of the other threads:
http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7691
Give me a moment to find the others if they still exist that had blue posts from the Blizzard forums. So far though I cannot find it but I'll keep looking.

Edit: Here is one other one. The largest thread with the heaviest details.
http://forums.wow-petopia.com/viewtopic ... &start=560

But the sum up is that if Blizz catches a player attempting to exploit their system and tame a pet with an appearance buff punishment for violation of Terms of Service Blizzard has stated permanent bans can and may be issued.
The pets who were tamed pre-hotfix patch are grandfathered in but if this is kept up those could be changed to normals, the animals removed completely or your account banned. Or all the above.

Also be mindful there are Blizz dev team workers on this forum. :)

Shame that proof was asked for instead of just trusting it what was said. Damn shame.
