Yep this one.
I've done it like 2 years ago and was lucky to find a nice guy who was on this quest chain and was willing to help me out :O)
Here is whole story :O)

Re: I HAVE A GHOST WOLF O.O

First: Shame on you. You made my heart skip.
Don't shame me, I almost screamed with joy myself.
Second: You didn't do it, you weren't able to duplicate. You have a white wolf, not a ghost wolf. What you did is easily duplicated, over and over, every time. What the OP did was actually get a ghost wolf permanently.
Uh, nope, no she didn't- I was right in saying this was a big bug/glitch/etc, the DC problems were most likely what did it somehow. What I did was replicate the attempts, the crashing most likely WAS the cause for it; the server hiccuped, she tamed a wolf that thought it was still buffed, and by all rights/reasons should still be a white wolf. All the tames prove it, there's no 'getting it any more righter'. This is a glitch and it shouldn't be bothered with because the pet is not a real ghostwolf; and has been said before, the buff disappears on death.

Ergo it's a sparkly trinket you can't play with :/

All this being said, I think the OP is and has been on the right track all along, but just didn't know it. The OP was attempting to the opposite of the Oily wolf, treating the transformation into the Ghostwolf as a spawn ... and thus taming at the point of spawning versus taming at the point of despawning.
But I already did find the magic point basically. The wolf has to take a little over 180~ damage, 200 seems to be tyhe trick. When 200 hp is gone it usually transforms; as said multiple times when I did manage and when others managed, the wolves all shazamed, just like Garwhal! And then they poofed back into wolves. The buff is what proves this is well, not supposed to be happening so if anyone else succeeds, you pretty much are breaking the game.

And Acherontia I'm so sorry that your wolf died, I'm sure we all wouldn't have minded you having glitch wolf, I didn't. :(

Rest in peace, Glitch Wolf.

Although this is a neat trick.... I would rather have a wolf stay the skin if I ever gave to revive it.

Well... and the fact that I just woke up and can not figure out what the method of getting this wolf with its new skin tamed other than the random "something happened to my interwebz" thing.

Can someone actually post a step-by-step guide on how to do this without too many off-game circumstances.. or can it not be done without giving your net connection a hiccup?

I need more hunters, IMO.

I've put up a guide here on how to easily one-shot tame these.

It's linked in the OP now too :) The buff will never remain after death, until and unless someone can find a way to make buffs which vanish upon death remain after pet death, but meanwhile, you can mount, dismiss, etc without losing the appearance.

I use the macro to abandon pet once this guy became blue and it worked second try. Even with most of my gear off, the trap killed him. So I used one of my exploding sheep. I've had them in my bank for years and they do 150 ish damage. Then once damaged, I began to tame. At the end I used the macro. Then the pet was gone. Once I relogged, it did appear as the ghost wolf. Tho I realize from these posts it will not stay that way. I just wanted to give it a try.

One warning: remove the abandon pet macro from your toolbar. You could loose a good pet without even a warning!

IS it the regular ghostpaw runner? Because I don't see them as ghostly at all.

I have been running around to find one but they all seem to be white opaque glowy wolves

You won't see any glowing, they change to the glow or ghost once damaged. Should change once they have 20-30% life. Then begin.

Please excuse me while I do my happy dance! :headbang: I just picked this up my very first try. Someone told me about Petopia's forums so I checked them out and saw the wolf. I went and found them and alt+tabbed to see what to do. Upon returning to WoW there was a wolf fighting a stag in ghostwolf form. I tamed him right as he killed it with the use of the abandon macro and relogged. Bam! One new ghostwolf! Thought I'd post on here that I had no complications, if that helps anyone at all.

Since this beauty is at best temporary, I am treating him like my spirit guide--who may get called away to the spirit realm at any time and leave me. For now, I pull him out to fish and walk in town and talk to me. I know, I know, I am silly, but this wolf has been the bane of my wow playing for a while, and now to have him at my side? Will take him for now and have good conversations as he guides my footsteps, and mourn that we cannot go into battle together.

That IS what he linked. Those wolves, when damaged to around 200 hp, shift into ghost wolf form. If you look at the link he provided, and then click on the abilities tab, you'll see the ability Ghostform.

No, I was actually out in Dustwallow in the Grimtotem area looking for a wolf. LOL So, once I reliazed I was looking for the wrong animal, i went to Ashenvale and tamed one for both my hunters. Oh, and I got my Ally hunter an oil stained fledgling AND wolf.

Oh, if anyone has problems doing these tames, check your video settings. I ended up having to turn my setting down to the LOW setting to be able to spam the macro fast enough. Once I did that, I got the tames on the first try.

I've managed to duplicate the "Ghostform" buff effect many times.. What you need to do is make sure the Ghostpaw Runners also have the "Enrage" buff on them as well.

Once summoned back it will have the Enrage buff for a few seconds then goes away but the Ghostform buff stays... But yes, once it dies it does indeed lose the Ghostform. :(

No you don't need to make sure they have enrage on them, as I said they just need to lose 300 hp atm, all that took for my lv 77 Rosalyn to do was unequip her guns and swords and go fisticuffing with the wolves. The real deal is the timing of the abandon script.

Also- ghost wolf looks f***ing cool under TBW; black and red! Why couldn't Karoma have been these colors, and then tameable ghost wolves for all? :|
