Exotic pets do not have better statistics, they will have the same damage modifier (10%) as any other ferocity pets (Cats, Foxes, Beetles etc), or if it's a Tenacity pet as other tenacity pets (Beetles, Crabs, Bears) Same goes for Cunning ofcourse.
They do come with a 'vanity' ability, for instance Spirit mend for Spirit beasts (A heal), Ancient Hysteria for Core hounds (Bloodlust/Heroism/Time warp) and all exotic pets have they're own extra ability, with different levels of usage (Ofcourse Bloodlust is more useful then a heal)

Right and wrong. The modifiers have been normalized across all hunter pets ever since patch 3.1.0. If you take a Tenacity pet with no talent points spent and all abilities off autocast except the Basic Attack, and take a Ferocity pet that is of the same level under the same conditions, there should be absolutely no difference between them in terms of stats or performance. Throw in a Cunning pet that is under the same parameters, and the above is still true.

Exotic pets are no different in this regard either. If you take a devilsaur and a wolf, at the same level and with the same spec, and take Monstrous Bite off autocast, then they should be identical except in appearance and diet.

In other words, the only differences between hunter pets are their looks, special abilities, bonus abilities, exotic abilities, and specs (barring any glitches that affect pets unequally). If all of these variables are held constant except looks (as is supposed to be the case with low-level hunter pets), then all hunter pets will perform identically.
