Relearning CC

Unread post by Tsaikojen »

Joined the game early WoTLK. By the time I started running heroics with my first character, Belf Hunter, CC was not much of an issue. It was all about DPS. Now, with the new heroics CC's become a big issue. BM Hunter DPS is not the best nor the easiest, but it is decient and the utility of the profession rivals a hybrid Tank/DPS Feral Druid IMO. Been enjoying the aspect of being CC focused, but there are still people who expect my DPS to be higher. Not gonna blow my cooldowns on trash nor will I open a boss with them, so my DPS WILL be lower than it could be.

Anybody else find themselves having to learn or relearn CC? Guess after a few hundred runs of heroics it will be much easier to focus on DPS when I know I have to CC and when I don't need to.

Camo actually makes it all a whole new ballgame! Pop that, trap launcher, and freeze trap to open a pull, then other CCs can go out - it looks VERY badass when done correctly.

As for numbers, well, once my last exotic is 85, I'm going survival. >_<

I've never really had to learn CC before, so I am finding it a nice new thing to learn, though my traps are often immuned by some mobs, so I usaully turn my pets aggro abilites on and get my pet to drag extra adds off to the side. I am BM so my pet can take the blows.

I first thought Camo was completely useless in PvE, until I discovered what Kalliope just said. XD I still hope they add back in the damage bonus when you first attack out of it.

The issue is getting the group who will give me half a second to toss out a trap and NOT pull right away causing the mob to miss it by a inch. >>

Hunter CC has been improved *so* much! I was one of those hunters who played when CC was still used very early TBC and before, and man, it was a pain then - you'd have to lay a trap, kite the mob into it and continue chain-trapping or alternatively chain-trap with another hunter to keep the mob frozen. Now, with trap launcher and a longer freeze-effective timeframe on traps, hunter CC is really great. The only issue it really has is that it's very difficult to successfully CC a moving target. Mages/shammies can cast during or after the pull. Hunters have to time it right.

I love CCing, lol. So fun :D

The missing by an inch is why I still do it old school. I do like that they increased the time of the trap's effect to a minute though. I missed when they changed that.

It's usually not a problem. The thing is, this is the CC that pulls need to open with.

Oh I discovered yesterday that I fail at cc. Well, not completely. I had one instance of bad aim kinda, but hell, how am I supposed to guess the mob will run forward before running towards us instead of just heading straight for us when they do it? Lol. Then I got completely unlucky...I got it perfectly positioned under the mob but I guess he resisted it and it didn't go. The third time I actually got it though. XD I'm gonna start practicing out in the wild for a bit, get used to using CC. And I should probably practice kiting...

Hey look, they announce Illidan returning in some form and suddenly I'm back. Hmmmm I wonder if there's a connection. :D

Keep in mind that some mobs are immune to CC, so it's not your fault. :D

I'm getting a lot of issues with the new reduced trigger radius. I hated it in PvP and I hate it in PvE. Sometimes it's RIGHT UNDER the mob and it simply doesn't trigger; other times it's five or more feet away and goes right off. It seems quite unpredictable.

Add to the fact that using it pulls the pack, so you have to time it with the cc of other classes--if you do it even a second earlier, someone's will be broken by the tank. Either your trap will go behind the mobs because that mage's poly went off too soon, or the mage casts late and the sheep winds up on Consecration, or...

I love the difficulty and the necessity for CC, but I wish traps weren't so damn sloppy. It just doesn't feel smooth to me the way a good sap did back in TBC.

I'm actually kinda looking forward to this, once I get Cata and can hit these new dungeons. Though also a little nervous about it. I've never really seriously had to use CC in the past. Sometimes in Wrath dungeons I would trap something beating on the healer, or distract/misdirect stuff away from them to somebody else, but that was about the extent of it.

I think it'll initially take a little getting used to, to know when and where to use CC moves and to get out of the 'DPS MOAR' mentality, but I do look forward to being useful in some way besides shooting the bosses and little else. I've always respected tanks and healers and liked that they had different roles, but no matter how much I try I can't seem to learn either of those. Maybe playing a class I already know in a fourth role, utility, will help me transition better :D

'Course I know I'll screw up a few times, I always do. Oh well. S'how we learn right?
