Comparing red corehounds: Noisy vs Non-noisy!

Unread post by Kyonarai »

Before I learned that Magmadar now loses his boss tag too(/sad!) I decided I would go tame him in MC. So I get down there, sneak past everyone and proceed to start the tame. It was fairly uneventful with me being lvl 82 at the moment. I was quite disappointed when I saw that he'd lost his boss tag, but I did notice one difference between him and Larsha, who was originally an ancient core hound. Magmadar is quiet! He only has a faint crackling fire noise to him, whereas Larsha has a loud thundering noise and booming footsteps accompanying a loud crackling noise.

Smolderos the Carbonizer is also a quiet puppy when he's not terrorizing the countryside.

I have yet to test the other corehounds or the corehound pack pups in MC, but I'd like input. Might be a useful thing to stick in their notes on petopia.

I also noticed that Magamadar appears to have a smoother run animation as a hunter pet. Maybe it's just me. I still havn't decided whether to keep the new pups or my old one as Larsha. Although the lvl 82 is tempting me... :)

Smolderos has won the competition! For being a bratty puppy! He also emotes a bit more than the old Larsha!

ooo, so some of the red corehounds are less noist than others? Nice, the constant noise was the only thing holding me back to keep one tamed.
Wut?

Kazador had an excellent write-up on corehound sounds in this thread.

Chromaggus on the other hand... Ugh, I once heard someone's Chromie roaring a good quarter of the way across the map! O_O
All non boss sound corehounds are that loud. All. Well Chromaggus may be a tad louder than the rest but, most core hounds really are that grandstanding for bellowing.

Anyways it's not noisy vs non noisy so much as it's grandstanding vs subtle. I just find it funny that Yas's Orthros, a normal MC hound roars and thunders, while The Beast, for my dorf Harp, gurgles, grunts and burps. But seeing as Harp is a dorf she probably gave Beast to much ale to drink as a reward for something.

If you want to mute the sounds for all corehounds, make a blank .wav file, rename it and put them in the following folder (making sure to follow the same treepath)
If you still want some sounds, only mute a few to make them less noisy.

World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastAggro.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastAttackA.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastAttackB.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastAttackC.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastDeath.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastPreAggro.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastWoundA.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastWoundB.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastWoundC.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\FelBeast\\FelBeastWoundCrit.wav

This will mute the "thump" sounds when they walk.
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Character\\Footsteps\\GiantFootSteps\\FootstepsGiant01.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Character\\Footsteps\\GiantFootSteps\\FootstepsGiant02.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Character\\Footsteps\\GiantFootSteps\\FootstepsGiant03.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Character\\Footsteps\\GiantFootSteps\\FootstepsGiant04.wav
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Character\\Footsteps\\GiantFootSteps\\FootstepsGiant05.wav

This will mute the burning sound loop they have.
World of Warcraft\\Data\\Sound\\Creature\\ElementalFire\\FireElementalLoop.wav

And because I know someone is going say this is against the ToS.

"While we are currently allowing Add-Ons that remove or replace existing sound files, keep in mind that it is illegal to distribute copyrighted materials..."

Just don't replace them with copyrighted sounds and its perfectly legal!
