Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
Yes, I finally found and tamed Sambas. This tame had to be the most unsuccessful successful tame I've ever done. It went beyond your typical "how do I play hunter again?" into amazement that I lived long enough to tame him.
This being the sixth day I had actually given up somewhere into the evening where I came back to him again being cached. You're never sure if you missed him or if some hunter ran past with him but I'm pretty much a pessimist so it was another blow.
Having put everything on hold to camp this lion (leveling archaeology, reputations, gearing up my druid OR Ichy, leveling my priest, farming ore, you name it...) I decided that I would actually accomplish something today other than the saddening lack of flufferbutt. Spent a good bit running around collecting various rep gear Ichy was eligible for, enchanting my gear (thank you broken enchanting market), gemming, and shooting the target dummy to get back into the swing of a Survival rotation.
My random dungeon queue finally popped and it was Grim Batol. It took an hour or probably more there were a few deaths from a new (not bad, but new to mechanics) tank, and we had to find a new healer. Had lots of fun trapping, was just enjoyable overall. Leave party after the final boss and I think well, servers are restarting in a few hours I might as well go sit myself out in the Highlands, but this time we're just going to hope for luck and no more hours upon hours of camping.
I'm sure you all see where this is going. I started at his far east plateau spawn and found him second to last; he was before that chasm of twilight people who always make the horrible human male "HUAH!" sound every time I fly over. NPCscan went off and that is where I decided that I haven't been playing a hunter for five years.
Best taming strategy ever:
1) Shoot your target from 25+ feet in the air ensuring you lose at least half of your health when you hit the ground.
2) Trap your target but forget to deselect him/her and proceed to melee him in the face with your staff making this entire step useless.
3) Hit your tame beast button only to realize it's your call pet button: call your pet.
4) Open your spell-book and search the Survival tree for Tame Beast before you remember that it's in Beast Mastery: Still spend 5 seconds searching the Marksmanship tab for it.
5) Spam button furiously. Remember you called your pet in a previous step.
6) Dismiss pet, return to spamming button furiously.
7) Be at a complete loss for why your tame pet button is still not working until you realize you aren't targeting the mob (wish you had remembered to do this at step 2 instead of 7).
8) Finally victory with the tame beast button and watch as the cast bar AND your last remaining sliver of health go down in tandem.
9) If performed correctly you probably died, but luckily I didn't.
So there was victory, it was amazingly pitiful victory, but it was victory. Pictures of course!

Re: Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
Great story. Grats on Sambas. We got him at the same location!
And you know what's weird? I've done all of that in your "strategy" list too ... but not all at the same time.

Haha thank you so much, so excited. I just sat there staring at him. I SHOULD be sleeping, you know, the first night of good sleep in six days. But I just.can't.stop.looking.at.him.Comett wrote:HAHAHAHA.

Thank you! You know I had a feeling about this location all throughout the last day (so far I had called his appearances no less than four times when I missed him by an hour to a few seconds), and I really had a good feeling going out there a "you never know..."Jroaeyl wrote:Great story. xD wish I hadn't done it at the same time, I'm so lucky someone didn't come along in a sour mood and shoot him or start taming.
Haha I'm so glad, it made my day too, you know once it was all over and I realized I can sleep (you know if I could stop fawning over him). Was definitely a tame to remember.Kormai wrote:GRATS!!!!!!!!

It's ok to be a bit obsessed right now, you spent six days and many close calls! Stare at him all you want. Just try not to drool or faceplant on the keyboard. Both of those would be bad.

It is called LUI and it uses (what I have been told by my man) is the old SWG basic frames and pairs them with a bunch of WoW Addons to fit it all together:
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/i ... LUIv3.html
Colours are customizable but I have a thing for class colours so I use the class colours for all of my alts.
So obsessed, one of my guildies just logged on and requested to see him. MOAR FAWNING. I told him (the guildie) that he (the lion) has WOBBLY ears. ;; so cuteomg. I am close to calling it a night, although I don't really have a choice they are restarting the servers soonKormai wrote:It's ok to be a bit obsessed right now, you spent six days and many close calls! Hehehe! As for your add-on, I agree it looks pretty cool. I might look into it cuz I spend a lot of time putting different things in different places and I can never get it just right. I download each add-on on it's own and sorta cobble them together.
Any more rares after this one? Or was this enough for you for a while?

Re: Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
It really is a great addon, I'm a huge minimalist and I love that I can close the side "shelves" so the buttons are invisible and I can close omen, recount, and especially grid (as I don't need it for Ichy). It's a little on the heavy side, I also ran Altoholic because I'm up to 9 characters, but together they were nearly 30mb and my poor 10 year old Dell just can't handle that sort of abuse on top of wow. It's hovering at 17mb currently from being open all day and collecting data but generally it idles at around 13 or 14mb with LUI alone.Kormai wrote:Hehehe! Well, it's never enough rares, but I think I'm currently out of ones I REALLY want to farm. Madexx is just too creepy for me, Terrorpene has that creepy hole (although I do stop by just so I can see if I can watch him kill someone), Jadefang is horriblenoiseomg and the colour is very meh (partial to purple and red). Karoma IS on the list (I'm actually sitting afk in one of her spots now) a good buddy (and fellow Petopian) kited her around for a half hour a couple days ago hoping I'd log on, but he found someone who really wanted her to tame her. However, my issue with Karoma is that she's simply a trophy, complete the spirit beasts (for my OCD) and I'd feel far too bad taming her if I thought for a second there was a hunter nearby who wanted her as badly as I wanted Sambas. Most likely unless I just happen upon her and no one is around, I'll wait until the next expansion to pick her up like I did with Loque and Aotona.
I know we're supposed to be getting more pets as the content patches continue though, much like all the goodies of spirit beasts in Wrath, so I might just save up some bonus points with the man (I stress him out so badly with my angst, I got so depressed when I realized I had missed Sambas by a second and been killed by him) and then when a new content patch is released >.> camp camp camp.

I will agree with you on Madexx but I love Terrorpene and Jadefang. I find the shale spider sounds to be cute but I can see how others find them annoying. The little critter shale spiders make me feel bad when I kill them
!
I also realize now that I don't think I could be happy with the amount of pets I'd have if I only had Kormai. I'm so glad I decided to level Kari, my first high level alliance toon. All my friends thought I was crazy...I thought I was crazy. But I'm sooooo glad! Kormai got Terrorpene, Ghostcrawler and Karoma and Kari (now Worgen as opposed to Draenei) gets Jadefang, Loque'nahak and is in line for any new spirit beasts! *squeeeee*
EDIT: clearly I'm not falling asleep again...I need a Timmy's breakfast sandwich *drool*

I sat this morning and read this and got the first good laugh I have had in a couple of days. I could SO see myself doing each of these--in some random order--and could just imagine the person on the other end with your face all screwed up, making desperate noises, or like me, screaming like a girl. Ain't being a hunter great fun? So glad you got him. Hey the tame don't have to be pretty, just work :} That is my answer and sticking to it.

Re: Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
I did actually tame a shale spider and they ARE cute, I only tamed it so next time I'm in an instance with my tank buddy I can send it in after him. He has so much hatred for most of my pets. Huhuran is HUGE and goes THTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTHTH. Kri is HUGE and goes THUD THUD THUD THUD. Loque goes RWARARRARWRARSTHSHSHS. Chrom goes THUTHUD RHRHRHRRRRRRROOOOORRRRRRRRWWWWW. The seagull, oh god when I had the seagull he raged so hard CAW CAW CAW CAW. So yes >.> I tamed the spider just to send it in next to him. I told him I had a top secret pet and he said I'LL LET IT TANK SO IT DIES. I said, LOL IT'S A BETTER TANK THAN YOU IT'LL LIVE.Kormai wrote:I will agree with you on Madexx but I love Terrorpene and Jadefang. And man, I don't know how you multi-hunter tamers do it. I would go crazy if I had to do any of these tames more than once. I LOVE leveling hunters, but I think I am officially done once it's Northrend time due to these rares. I'd HAVE to have Sambas on every hunter and... :p never again.
Oh god I was a mess, I was like whimper yell half crying waiting to see some distracting shot from stage left or a warrior charge. All of the white parts blotted out are me screaming unintelligibly at the boys and then attempting to tell my story of the tame while shaking (so I seemed mostly drunk and thought I'd spare these forums that). It is so fun, you know, when the pet is finally yours :p and yeah it's definitely even more impressionable to me now because of that tame. I thought it was bad just missing the tame button much less not being able to find it.Karma wrote:I sat this morning and read this and got the first good laugh I have had in a couple of days. I hear you so much on the shaking, and I keep shaking afterward. Such an adrenaline rush! Up until this tame I'd mostly just had shaking issues targeting through NPCscan and then hitting tame :p this time, after so many hours and days and misses, this time everything just went in all sorts of directions.Nemera wrote:hahaha lol great story

Re: Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
Well at least for me (I don't know about others because besides people on this forum I've never met another person who has two hunters) I like having the two because I can tame different pets on each. I've had fun now that almost all the pet families have different buffs/debuffs because I try to make sure I have all the major ones covered. And in the instance where two pet families have the same buff, there is a good chance I'll want a model of each, so one hunter gets one family and the other gets the other family. For example: Kormai has a dragonhawk and Kari has a wind serpent.Icharia wrote:And man, I don't know how you multi-hunter tamers do it. Also because I have a bit of OCD, as much as I can I try to make sure all the models Kormai has are red/orange because she is Horde and Kari's pets are all blue/green/blue-ish purple for the Alliance. Thats why Kari doesn't get Terrorpene and Kormai doesn't get Jadefang hahaha. So I think the only pets that Kormai and Kari will have in common are my most favourite Spirit Beasts...they tend to be an exception to my self-imposed rules. And so far the only spirit beasts I love enough to tame on both are Skoll and Loque'nahak. I love Ghostcrawler and Karoma but not enough that I want to tame them twice...besides I need to leave room in Kari's stable for more potential spirit beasts

Did you have to put sambas id number in npcscan??? if so do you have it? cant find his id number(not sure if i need it???)
And are the co ords on wowhead accurate? just asking as my npcscan overlay doesnt appear to have cata in its data????

Re: Luck WAS a Lion Tonight
Tamed Sambas today on The Maelstrom at 20.44, he was near the twilight camps
Had been talking to a tauren hunter who was looking for him too, and he said that one in his guild had tamed him at 5ish in the morning, so seems that Sambas doesnt have 24h spawntime like Ive seen some say? Used NPCScan, and added Sambas ID (50159) + his name, and the scan went off when i got near him
Had been searching since i dinged the night before, patrolling on and off the whole day. Veeery happy now
GL all hunters who are looking for this king of lions:)

Haha awesome. That's pretty much what I followed when I found Ghostcrawler, and when Karoma spawned directly below me at exactly 5 minutes before my router is turned off. The paaaaaiin~ And I forgot to Fraps the moment. Again.
Glad you finally got him, you deserve it
(Seriously, how'd I forget to play my spec when I've never been anything other than Beast Mastery. Hm....)
