Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
Give it a shot with dying/despawning mobs (aka Oily wolf / Flaming Boar)--but when the last patch hit, the sparkle effect when a pet is tamed/dings to the appropriate level stopped appearing.
I think this is probably when they fixed it--they fixed what happens when a pet is tamed, fixing the mechanic itself. I assume then that it's any "special" tame--but try it out imo.

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
I figure both methods were removed. Considering they obviously found it an exploit, even if the harder method is in place I would certainly not recommending trying it. Considering this is Blizzard's way of saying "yes, we don't want you doing this", if you continue to try it, I'm sure worse things then a hotfix will come of it since Blizzard has now openly put their stance on it.Slickrock wrote:So the end result is no more Appearance Buff pets if you haven't already tamed them?
Are both methods removed?
Tough luck to those who didn't get them, but with everyone here being "good citizens" you know they were going to take it away sooner or later...
But, keep in mind, those pets *may* not stay once the next maitenance arrives. Some hotfixes require a realm restart to fully finish. So that last statement may be more truer than you think @_@

Well, its sad for those that didn't get one they wanted. And it will be another source of fighting here among the haves and have nots. Gonna get nasty, it always does.Rikaku wrote:I figure both methods were removed. Might be better if they take them all away, I don't want to hear the fighting.
Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
In all seriousness... seriously? I don't bitch at Slimes and Hydras. Good for them, I didn't have an 80 hunter at the time. 'S not THEIR fault.Slickrock4 wrote: Might be better if they take them all away, I don't want to hear the fighting.

If you're that concerned about people getting mad at you for having one, delete your pet if it's that important to you

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
Could I suggest you start a new thread about this bug fix?
A lot of people are going to miss the change because it's on page 25 of a thread about the reverse.
And please keep it civil. Whether or not you are happy that it was reported, Petopia isn't a place to hoard secrets and exploits. People who report potential bugs (or query whether something IS a bug) are right to do so and don't deserve to be feel the brunt of your frustration. If Blizzard lets us keep them, all good. If not, they were going to find out eventually anyway. Remember that Blizzard employees read these forums too.

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
OMG TRY THIS!!
just before you go to tame your new special pet, call out a current pet and then dismiss it.
now spam the script macro mentioned during the last 1-2 secs of taming till the pet is gone >> /script PetAbandon()
log off and youll see the new pet tamed is standing next to you on your character screen. He wont look like he has the effect, but when you log back on you will see he retained it.
This should help those that have been trying forever and cant seem to get the script to work.
Only rare pet i have left to tame in game is MADEXX!!

Was testing it on a sparklestrider in the Barrens after some ally's repeated attempts at a flaming battleboar failed, even with this dismiss thing first

Four pets in stable. Tame failed. Respecced, entered a heroic--"Call Tallstrider" on my bars. What??
Sparklestrider is in my stables now, WITH sparklebuff, tamed ~20 minutes ago. If any last-minute desperados really wanted a buffpet, now's the time!
Edit: Just reproduced it, definitely still works. May help if you both keybind & click the macro as the tame completes.
Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
You didnt read correctly as i stated its the "CALL PET" ability then dismiss, not just dismissing a current pet.
Don't do this then mount up and go to new pet thinking it will work. you must do this while at the new pet to be tamed.
Example 1: You get to beast you want to tame with pet already out. You dismiss pet, call any pet, dismiss pet , tame new pet and do macro when there is 1-2 seconds left and keep going till pet is gone.
Example 2: You get to beast you want to tame without any pet out. you call any pet, dismiss pet , tame new pet and do macro when there is 1-2 seconds left and keep going till pet is gone.
Note: you can play it safe and call pet and dismiss pet a couple times before you tame new pet and do macro when there is 1-2 seconds left and keep going till pet is gone.
Please try to verify it works every time when doing the call pet then dismiss.

Can anyone tell me if this trick still works? I tried half the day yesterday to get a ghostpaw runner in ghost form, but it didn't seem to work for me... I attacked it until it was in it's ghost form, called a pet and dismissed it and then used tame beast. when there was 1-2 sec left I used the macro, but it still didn't seem to work. was I doing something wrong?

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
It still works, got on on my first try. As Acherontia says, keybinding helps for spamming.
TLDR version: I got a ghostpaw runner in ghost form just before Cata release. Saturday night I was reading that thread where people got elites and exotics mixed up. Somtimes I have a kneejerk reaction, and that night I did. Karoma tameable by non-BM hunters? Sounded good, so I went out with my ghostpaw and actually found Karoma. Abandoned ghostpaw. Tried taming Karoma. No go. Live and learn... Switched to BM, tamed Karoma.
Sunday evening, the cons of having another exotic outweigh the pros and I abandon Karoma. I head to Ashenvale and try taming another ghostpaw runner in ghost form. No go, it very noticeably reverts to a normal ghostpaw just as the tame ends.
I head to Twilight highlands -- at this point it's 24 hours since I tamed Karoma, so I figure he may be there again. Nope... I check all spawn points and he's not around.
At this point I enter a ticket with the phrasing that I had a ghostpaw, abandoned him and tamed Karoma, but I preferred the ghostpaw. Could I have the ghostpaw restored? I gave the time of the abandon on Saturday night. Today I log in, and ... it was Karoma that was restored. I had a feeling this might happen, since I'd given the ghostpaw and Karoma the same name. I decide not to pester the GMs, and try instead for another ghostpaw using the info in this thread.
Set sail for Rut'theran! I fly to blackfathom, pausing on the hills at the edge of Darkshore to set Karoma free... again. Right. As in Evan's example 2, I arrive at the ghostpaw with no pet out. He's already fighting a stag. I call out my lion and dismiss him. As the stag reaches death, I start my tame to aggro the ghostpaw before he reverts to normal. The final AOE that kills the stag interrupts my tame, but the ghostpaw is on me, still in ghost form.
At 85, I noticed last night that the ghostpaw's blasts no longer interrupt my tame once I have aggro -- ice trap not needed. As the tame winds down I spam my keybound petAbandon. Ghostpaw disappears. I head over to another ghostpaw and hit tame -- it tells me I can't. I log out -- there's a normal-looking ghostpaw beside me on the char select screen. I log back in and summon the wolf -- I have my ghost wolf back.

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
Ok. Thanks. Just wondering... I found out today that I do have lag slightly... 1-2 sec of it to be precise. Would that compromise the trick at all? Or do I just need to keep trying and hope for the best?

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
Just picked up the Ghostpaw Runner with the amended trick but noticed an odd bug pop up.
Basically I did the macro-tame, got the wolf after logging out/back in, was pleased as punch so I hearthed home. Went up to the stablemaster and dropped her off so as I don't lose her on an accidental death of some kind and then set 1 of my two slots with my cat, leaving one slot open for any potential tame. When I closed the window and tried to call the pet there was a "You do not have any pets to summon" message. Panicky I ran back to the stablemaster and added my spirity ghostwolf, Polaris, and was able to summon/dismiss either with no problem.
So I tinkered with it more, it seems that if you do have one of these acquired pets that sometimes you'll get the 'no pets to summon' message, but talking to a stablemaster and moving a pet from one slot to another seems to alleviate that and so far. I think the slot that you tame the new pet in has a minor glitch associated with it so that if your only summonable pet is in the slot location that your newly acquired pet got slotted into the game will tell you that you don't have a pet to summon.
Not to put a rain on anyone's parade, but I have a feeling that alone might get Blizz to do some pet purging; they don't seem happy when our stables get buggy, whether we're happy with the bugginess or not. Until then I'll have Polaris at the ready to bring out on occasion, maybe more often than not if her days are numbered... well that or I hit 85 and tame what's-her-name... Karona? Heh

Re: How To: Tame Pets With Appearance Buffs
Feydrinne, that's an issue that we've been seeing lately. I had it happen to me once, and had to do some pet juggling between the active slots and the stable to finally get them 'unstuck'. This occured when my consumed bear was in an active slot, but that's hardly enough evidence to rule out coincidence.
