I go to the cinema at least once a week, and I like what the 3d can ADD to the experience.
the really good movies are not made with "Look what I can do with 3D" effects, with shit sticking in your face, really cheezy

Piraña was FULL of this. it was the worst movie i have EVER seen. - damn!
It was so cheezy, there was soooo much - look im 3d, look what i can do - shit going on.

James Cameron's Avatar, had a perfect show about how you should use 3D. it made the depth a little bit better and gave a nice calm display. ( not talking about the movie and its content here, just how the 3D was used. )

so No, I dont think this can be argued, 3D is simply an improvement and 1 step ahead.
But there are many directors who give it a bad name, by abusing it in shitty movies, rather then using it as a slight improvement in depth.

meh , I like movies that were filmed in 3D, when it brings something to the movie.
I loved Avatar, and Piranha (which had the whole "stick in your face" effect as a joke - it was a take-off on the 3D effects of the 1970's and 80's for those of you who weren't around back then. my husband and I laughed hysterically through the whole thing, with all the "inside jokes").
Resident Evil was ok, the 3D wasn't too intrusive.

but I'd rather watch a "post-converted" film in its original 2D format. I'm SO happy they didn't convert Harry Potter. it would not have brought anything to the movie at all.

wow, a lot of you people have pretty expensive theatres!

most of the cinemas around us have daytime showings that are nearly half price (down from $12 evening/week-end rates).

A bit of palindromic wisdom:

I love pets - combat or non.

I think 3D will eventually die. Nobody wants to stick these large and uncomfortable glasses on there head to watch a movie. It's not to bad for the movies but I think eventually the novelty will wear off. What would be cool is if they could some day come out with holographic movies.

I wouldn't say "3D will eventually die". More like, it will become more natural. No uncomfortable glasses, just a special screen that can project image that looks like it was 3D. And soon after, almost every movie will be made with the 3D version, like HD is now.

I think it depends on the movie. If it's a sci-fi setting, or CGI anyway, why not? Despicable Me was awesome, and Avatar was okay (if too long, and ripping off plot points from too many stories -- including Cameron's previous works -- to mention. Dances with Smurfs indeed). Inception needed it, and I'm looking forward to Tron: Legacy. Some older movies I would like to see a 3D remake of, like the first Matrix, but others ... no. Just no. (I'm talking about you, George Lucas!)

However, slapping 3D onto a movie that wasn't specifically made with 3D in mind makes it look very tedious, IMO. It's a blantent Search for More Money technique, and if Hollywood thinks viewers don't realize that, well, they're frankly being insulting to us. Clash of the Titans didn't need it, and its inclusion felt tacked on (even if the giant riding scorpions were awesome).

The thing that's starting to annoy me is that I wear glasses, and the 3D glasses you have to wear to watch these movies never fit properly over my own glasses, so I'm stuck balancing them on the end of my nose for 2 hours. Imagine what it was like to have to do that all the way through Avatar -_-

Coraline was the only one I enjoyed in 3D.

I feel your pain. I avoid 3D like the plague because it's so annoying to wear those stupid glasses over a pair of glasses.

It hurts my eyes and well for a long movie gives me migranes( i am talking to you avatar). They are worse if they are not shot in 3d and have it put on later so the things all blurry. Just i want them to stop and well make a good movie heavens knows we need some more. I know i don't have to see it in 3D and well i don't but still.

:S sorry for this not being a huge thing with lots of reasons i just needed to say what i think about it.
Indeed i am several films are being remade into 3D which is ruining their fanbases love of the films and or film series such as the old star wars i hear they are yet again being "Remastered" this time in 3D its pointless and ruins the experience, i want to see the fights not feel like im part of it due to the 3dness

There are certain hollywood entities that flat out scare me in terms of them getting ahold of 3D. James Cameron, Michael Bay, and George Lucas lead the list.

But since a better 3D experience is out there, maybe it's time to redo Jaws 3-D and Friday The 13th 3-D :D

My head and eyes can't take 3D. I thought the idea of doing Avatar (not the last Failbender, the good one) was a good idea, but it didn't seem very well-done to me. It still had a rather flat appearance. Maybe it's because I was wearing my glasses rather than my contacts that day.
