I found him the first time I went to the area. You can just put track beasts on and run around the Western and Southern edges of the zone. If a yellow dot shows up, it's him. There are no other mobs of any kind down at the seabed. I named him Nerfbat.
. He was at the Southeastern part of the zone when I found him and he does hit pretty hard and is immune to traps. I was at 98k health and he took about 75% of it.

Re: Ghostcrawler Spawn Locations?
When I was in the Twilight Highlands questing, I was like, 'Oh, isn't there a new spirit beast here?' So I looked up some spawn points, put track beasts on, and checked them out. Low n' behold hovered over a red dot and there was Karoma. I was lucky no one else was around because I botched the taming. Never tagged him, no trap, just hit the tame button. This sent me on my Ghostcrawler kick. I -must- have him.
I've been camping in the Abandoned Reef for the past three days with not a single sighting / NPC scan going off. D: Very depressing. I've been out here with another hunter who is frequently camping as well, others come in, 'stay for a while' then go, don't see them again usually. So I've messaged her asking her if she tames him to give me the heads up so I can leave the area for a bit / try to work on what people have said for a spawn timer. Yesterday in General Chat she said, 'just tamed ghostcrawler, anyone else camping him should leave the area for a few hours,' just the way she said it made me suspicious, so I swam past the place she'd been staying all day, and there she was, still camping.
Now I must get him before her. This underwater zone creeps me out so bad, I just want my spectral crabby. ;;

Re: Ghostcrawler Spawn Locations?
I had been tracking ghostcrawler for awhile but have been pretty unsuccessful. Saw him one time in the week or so I was camping him and he got tamed by another hunter as soon as I found him. Here's the info I have to provide.
I can't really confirm spawn times. When I caught him today it was at 5:20 pm. The time I saw him before was 3:20 pm so my guess at this is more of a 24 hour spawn.
Big problem I ran into was that NPC Scan didn't go off either time. He wasn't cached as I checked constantly to see if he was. Might have cost me the first tame and could have cost me the second as no more than a minute or so later another hunter, who had been camping with me for the past week or so, showed up and congratulated me. Only reason I had stopped was because I had a yellow dot on my mini map pop up and usually it's another player or a mining node but to my surprise it wasn't. So track beasts helps in case the scan doesn't go off.
When I saw him the first time he was east of the south peninsula and the second time, when I actually tamed him, he was moving up from the southern peninsula. So the idea of two spawn points sounds about right to me. Here's a pic of him.

When people say he hits hard...yeah he hits hard. I tried a few things to see how it might work. I couldn't trap him, said he was immune. Then I tried to do deterrence + tame and he ignored the hell out of it. I continually got hit and was sure I would die but managed to get him with only 10k health left at 85.
All I can say is if you want this guy I wouldn't camp him for long periods of time. Maybe an hour or so at a time and talk to any other hunters there that you can. Get all the info you can to track him. One day you'll go back and he'll be there. I had actually logged out there so that when I logged back in I could check the place before leaving so thats not a bad idea either. Good luck to all the GC campers!
