First pet to get away :(

Unread post by Scarce »

Well there we have it, knew it would happen sometime, just didnt know i'd feel so sad=(

Been Circling Terrorpene for a few days now checkin the camp spawn every hour or 2 with no luck, Log on todo and do my usual round and there he was! quickly dropped down and began taming (Forgetting totally that i had a pet still up)
During it all though i see a mage screaming (nooo wait! at me) apparently he was watching it for a friend hunter who had went afk and begged me not to tame,

Fair is fair he was technically there so i stopped taming and when he returned despitie my grouchyness i let him tame....and die.. So i let him have another shot, in which he died again. after standing there the entire time i decided it was my turn to have a go at taming, i did let him have 2 afterall and i was camping it also i warned the mage who had whispered me earlier that i'd be having ago, and so i ressed my pet and dismised to see the hunter have one last go at taming it....and succeding.

Think the main thing that upset me rly out of it all was i didnt even get a "thanks for not taming while i died/afked" was just a "sorry bud, been campin a whole hour for this"...

Ah well 6 hour spawn time then i shall be camping again i guess=(

Should i be so sad at this, or was the pet rightfully his? should i of not even attempted to tame?

Depends on whether or not you accept proxies. On the other hand, he should at least have shown some gratitude. You didn't have to stop.

That they didn't show much thanks really irritates me. :(

My first attempt at him, I had two allies come and kill him from under me, just because they could.

Keep trying, you'll get him.

I think it was really nice of you to let him tame, though he should have been more appreciative instead of the excuse "well ive been camping for an hour.." thats not really an excuse and a thank you would have been nice. You were camping for days and saw him first and had every right to tame him first. *hugs* Youll get terrorpene, keep checking I know for sure hell spawn for you!

How ungrateful that other hunter was! I camped 26 hours for him and I know other hunters that have done 10+ in a single sitting. He should have been thankful you didn't try to tame before he got there/while he was dead. Technically, it wasn't even the hunter that had been there - it was his friend. I'm at a loss as to whether or not it'd be considered "his" since you were the first person there who wanted to kill or tame him (taming, in your case). You have every right to be a bit sad and disappointed and had every right to attempt to tame him either way. The only thing I could see that could be bad is that you have to maintain threat. The mage could have been a jerk and interrupted your tame.

Wow, talk about ungrateful.

Fortunately, I got my Terrorpene without competition - but personally, if I'd had this happen to me (and assuming I accepted the proxy and stopped the tame... I've lost a tame before when I went afk for just two minutes so I tend not to accept "stop, my friend wants it but he's afk" type things), I would've gone by my usual rule for hard tames. Which is they get one shot, if they screw it up then I'll have a go. If they're not prepared, it's their problem, not mine - if they wanted it that badly they should've prepared before beginning the camp rather than hoping for luck.

You have every right to be sad and disappointed. And you definitely had a right to try and tame it.

Good luck, I hope you get your turtle soon

Appreciative or not, you did a really nice thing letting the other hunter snag a shiny turtle right out from under your nose when you OBVIOUSLY would have been able to get to it first ...

Even if the guy was kinda a jerk about it, you're totally allowed to be happy with the karma you've accrued and an accurate spawn timer. =D

Here's my mentality / attitude on rare pets: Either you're ready to tame the creature when it pops up or you're not. When it comes to rare pets that are highly sought after, I see no reason to give someone extended breaks beyond not purposely screwing up his / her tame (ie, not shooting the mob they're trying to tame just to screw it up). If the person is afk, that's too bad. If they're calling in help because they can't tame it alone, that's also too bad. And if they die after the first attempt, that's *really* too bad. It's not unreasonable to expect other Hunters wanting to tame the same mob as you to be prepared and ready to go. I know this can and does come across as selfish and mean-spirited, but when you're after a pet that is rare and everyone else wants, you have to take the opportunity when it comes.

I agree with this. I've never been shown kindness with rare spawn taming and honestly I'm not sure I should. When I got my Terrorpene, there was a dead hunter under me who came back right after I tamed him. When you aren't prepared, you lose out. They weren't rude to me or anything and probably excepted the fact that they just weren't ready for it.

I also understand it sucks to camp something for a long, long time to lose it to someone else who just happened to come by when it spawned. I've had it happen and well you just gotta roll with it.

I've yet to have this happen save for that time a guy shot Arcturis as I was taming, got the threat & got my Arcturis... however, ya' if I had a shot at Terrorpene & failed & someone else was right there, ready to roll I'd let them have it.

But really... show some freakin' appreciation, I bet next time this guy finds a rare they want & you happen to be there, & you want that rare too; first come first serve...

that was nice of you. Though yeah, they could have showed a bit more gratitude.
Its because that theres so many people like that, that in situations like that...I keep taming. if its something I've been looking for for awhile, and I see it, tag it, I get to tame it.
there's been a few times I've tagged a mob and held it while the hunters been on the way. but if the mobs not tagged, it's fair game.

Soo....

I begin camping again 6 hours later this time not leaving the spawn spot once! and who appears by me?! none other then the very same hunter and mage, ofc im alittle confused as the hunter already had the pet, and so i asked him. He replies he was just curious if it had spawned. so i left him to it, after all he alrdy had it, no reason why he would tame again, i fly other to the other area were terrorpene spawns and the hunter follows, his mage friends standing there with another hunter friend from their guild...it made me sad=( none of them admited to wanting to tame the pet but it was obvious they was after him yet again.

What ticked me of more was the very same hunter constantly even after warning, kept brining his pet out to set of my npcscan

A few hours of them 3 running around and they all leave, so i begin my camping treck,

3am rolls by and he spawns:D made me jump as i was half asleep:< Was a very nerve-racking tame but worth every minute, he's so lovely!

Learnt my lesson though...first come, first serve shame really =(

Can I say what complete and utter jack***es?!

I cannot believe, after you let them walk away with your tame, that they would try to do it again to you. Gah, people like that make me want to faction change just so I can kill them nonstop in PVP if I ever see them again.

Sorry you came across such jerks-and congrats on your Terror-they are a love.

Wow, you really had to go through a mess to get him. What you did went well above and beyond what most people would have done and I really admire you for that. It's a shame they weren't appreciative and then kept bugging you later by bringing it out to mess with your NPC Scan! I don't get people sometimes. But at least it all ended well, despite what happened. :)

if he was AFK i would not have givin him the chance at the tame, if he died mid tame, he lost his chance (shoulda been prepared). thats my stance on it. while ive never died during a tame(other than a occasional ganking) i do my homework when it comes to hard tames.
you did a good thing, i would not have givin him the chance.
if he wasnt afk then the pets all his, if he didnt die its all his (obviously).

Yeah, I know how that feels... My first to get away was also Terror.
Sure, I had not been camping for so long, but maybe the last half hour-hour a blood elf comes along, also obviously camping him. I had all potions I felt I needed, and was ready for the spawn. Then my scanner goes off, I get in position, and since my macro glitched it did not cast Tame automatically. While my heart was racing and I was looking for the spell, I see the BE beside me. For a few seconds he is still, so I start the tame. But as soon as I do, he starts hitting me, and me being lvl 83 and he 85 it was an easy kill, and as I rush back, the GY not far away, when I ress he tries to kill me again, and then tame with ease. Not a single emote to explain his actions.
After a few hours I start over, and as I hover over a spawn point, an idiot orc pulls out his pet and starts to dance, just to make my scanner go off. He even tried to kill me as I seemingly did not react to this (of course I did, but I would never let him have it) Even later on, a goblin starts to follow me from spawn to spawn as I circle the spawn points to look.

Luckily, when it was finally time again (24h later) I was all alone. Not that this would matter to my heart though ;)

that was so nice oh you and i am glad you did get him at some point :) sadly yeah like most have said when it comes down to rares, its first come first serve.. if your afk and it spawns well... that just blows. thats bull what they were doing if it was me i would report them for greifing.

I am very glad you got him though :)

Wow, you are much more kind and patient than I am.

And I'm a fairly nice person, or I try to be.

If someone is trying to tame, and they die, their "turn" has ended, and someone else gets to roll the dice and take their chance.

If someone is AFK, they have "passed" their turn and better luck next time.

When I got terrorpene, there was another hunter camping (technically, he may have been camping earlier, he wasn't there when I logged in). Out of courtesy, I took the spot at the other end of the spawn zone, and we exchanged some polite whispers back and forth.

When Terrorpene spawned, he was right on top of the other hunter. I flew down assuming the tame would already be in progress, but there was Terrorpene marching steadily up the lava pool towards me. The other hunter's name said "AWAY" and so I figured this was my chance. As soon as the tame completed, the other hunter was automatically logged off. He logged back in a minute or two later, and while I am sure it was frustrating to learn that he had missed out by just a few minutes, it seemed like the fair thing to do to tell him the spawn time, so at least he would not continue waiting when he could go do something else for a few hours.
