Aeonaxx, and the hour long tame

Unread post by erwil »

This was not my achievement, but instead of a guild mate of mine. :D

Image

From what I was told, the dragon spawned quite close to the entrance of the Stonecore, and my hunter friend was fast to pick him up. He flies at 500% speed when he's in combat. It was hilarious at first to try to follow her around and watch all the players from Deepholm tail her.

Image

It took her around an hour to take the dragon down. ._. I'm not entirely sure if it's a bug, but if hunters are meant to kill him solely by using Raptor Strike, I think I'm gonna pass on the hunt. XD She seemed to be able to shoot the adds (tiny stone drakes) from range though and her own health did not suffer a blow during the whole "tame".

It got me thinking, if Blizzard has got some kind of other new "taming" ways planned for our hunter pets in the future, since I'm quite fond of the way Aeonaxx is needed to be taken down and the camel mount requires some phasing to approach.

Image

Good luck everyone who is going after this guy! Prepare a glass of milk and some cookies if you're a hunter and manage to tag him. You'll be circling the core of Azeroth for a long long time.

Woah, congrats to your friend! I know my boyfriend has been looking on and off for this guy on his Paladin and I would love to do it. I'm glad I would go after him on my warrior (as he is my mount collector) and not my hunter because jeez, that sounds like a pain in the ass haha.

I've seen one person on my realm with the mount and he said it was very easy to do, so here's hoping haha. Congrats to your friend again, thanks for posting the story!
Rejoined the hunt after a lengthy break... feels good!

He's got 700k ish health, so it should not take too long for a melee class to burn him down. Not sure if the adds would cause a trouble, but they've got very little health. I do hope they fix the ranged issue for hunters.

Wish you tons of luck with it! :D Let's hope you run into him soon. ^-^

I'm curious, so you mainly have to kill the adds that come up to you? But then you can still whittle away at the drakes health as well? Wow it would take a LONG time with just Raptor Strike and melee hits, even with Hand Crafted Pyro Rocket and the Goblin Racial rocket I would imagine I would have a while to work on it (if i become lucky enough to get him)

The little drakes are the ones that do damage to you, so they need to die quickly. Aeonaxx himself just soars around and doesn't harm you. The mini drakes didn't seem to spawn constantly, 1-2 baby drakes every minute or so, so she had plenty of time to Raptor Strike Aeonaxx health down before his babies spawned again.

From what my friend told me, she kept constantly having targeting problems. I noticed it as well, as I was following her the drake kept phasing in and out of targeting. You could still see him, but not target him. And you pretty much can't do anything to help your friend if they tag the dragon, he flies way too fast for you to heal them.

NPCscan will still go off even if someone is already riding Aeonaxx, and when he's in combat he moves out of the ring near Temple of Earth and flies around the whole Deepholm.

Also, I love your signature. XD <3

That sounds like hell.. although I suppose the hour might go a little faster if you're the one flying on his back, I dunno. XD; I read that a lot of people were having problems with targeting and they had to turn around/face his tail in order to dps properly?

Your friend is lucky, was he/she camping it or did they accidentally bump into him?

Yeah, she had to keep aiming her sword at the dragon's arse and then turning around to kill the little whelps. xD

We had another guild mate (a dk) camp the dragon for three days. He must've missed Aeonaxx at some point. He went to buy the Sandstone Drake and took a break for two hours, and our huntress decided to take her chance while he was gone (she didn't want to camp when our DK was there.). And the drake spawned not long after. >.<

So.. mount the drake and then spank it for 60 minutes until it drops epics.~

Sounds like an experience. X3

There goes my dirty brain at work!

Unfortunate that my favorite stone drake skin is this one (<3 green and purple IRL), because I had a hard enough time camping a pet, I can only imagine the amount of people trying to get something that drops a mount. /shudder

I suppose it's another one I'll have to admire from afar. Pity. But, not like there aren't 100-something other mounts out there for me to enjoy. Not having this one isn't going to poop on my parade (much).

I too can attest to how much of a pain in the ass this is for a hunter to do. Raptor Strike, Scatter Shot, and the occasional Multi Shot serpent spread, makes for a LONG kill. I was worried it would despawn. Grats to your friend.

It's a pretty bad-ass looking mount... I think I might just camp for this guy instead of sifting through sand looking for jars. After 2 and a half weeks I need a break..

At least with this guy you can just crank up the speakers and afk, (or multi-task) while waiting for the _NPC Scan alert to freak you out.

--

There has got to be a way for us to kill this guy faster..

Edit: I might just mail over my 2H Troll Archaeology sword and stuff that in my hunter's backpack.. I'd love to see a Raptor Strike using that thing. XD

(Do white hits also damage the drake?)

Maybe not faster, but at least he'll go down in style. XD And I'm sure white damage harms him as well, hunter melee is just so terribad it'll just tickle him.

I would love to camp him, a hour or a day to fight him does not bother me.
What does is the time it can take before he spawns again. Not sure if i want to sit on that spot for days, waiting for him.

This might seem like an odd question, but would like the fire trap work? I have no idea if it'd float in the air or fall to the ground, but it might get snagged by him? I'd ask about the snake trap, but I just see snakes gettin blown off and falling onto some helpless toon down below, scaring the daylights out of them.

"Snakes on a dragon!"

*cackle*
I've got a sneaky suspicion that the traps might just fall off. I'm not entirely sure though, but it'd be nice to have this confirmed by another hunter.

I was doing some research on this mount as I'm going to have to get him some day.

I've heard of hunters taking him down in 15-30 minutes on average with just raptor strike, so I guess it depends on level and gear. Traps have been confirmed to not work, they just fall to the ground below without doing anything.

It would take forever to freaking melee him down, but I'd do it for sure just to get that awesome mount.
