Hey everyone,
I remember reading a few weeks ago that they took the appearance buff out for taming the oil-stained wolf-- or they were going to.
Has anyone tested this recently? I never tamed it when I was leveling and I was thinking if I still could I might make room for him.
Thanks!

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf
From what I have heard, Blizz has pretty much put their foot down on these guys and removed the methods that people were using to tame them. My understanding is that it's pretty clear if you read patch notes and such that Bliz doesn't want people trying to get the appearance buff pets as they were not intended.
From other posts around here, it sounds as if the methods to get them are all but gone, and that many people believe trying to circumvent those methods will get you into trouble.
I got the oil stained wolf a few months ago, back when the tame while he disappears method was just found and before people started doing all those weird things to get the flaming boars and sword stabbed ghost wolf.
And honestly, while I like the novelty of him, he's not my favorite pet out there. He spends more time in my stable then with me.

Basically, Merlyn got it all. Blizzard said no so it's best not to put your account at risk for trying to tame pets with "buffs".

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf
Oh gotcha- I didn't realize there was a Blizzard "ban" on taming them- I thought it was just a specific skin that had glitched but ended up becoming a permanent thing. Thank you for the info.
Re: Oil-Stained Wolf
While Blizzard has seemed to have made up their mind on pets with buffs, but I swore I read a post a few weeks back that you can in fact still tame pets that retained their buff post death with the Serpent Sting method. And I'm assuming the the Oil-Stained Wolf can still be tamed with the help of an Alliance toon on the quest. I have one, so I haven't went back to try it.
As I mentioned, it seems that Blizzard does not like pets keeping their buffs though the fix Blizz implemented really only breaks taming pets with damaging buffs plus any other vanity buff that disappeared after death. So trying to figure out if the old method for the burning boars, Dagger-headed Lone Hunter and oil-stained pets still works may not be the best idea for your account. Even though I'm pretty sure I read that you still can do those tames. I'd do a search if you're really interested.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not advocating that someone continues to try to tame these pets with buffs that remain after death as these pets may in fact be against Blizzard's wishes regardless if they let us keep ours grandfathered or not. I am merely replying to the OP's questions as to whether these pets can still be tamed. To my recollection, they still can at your own risk. Furthermore, your decision to try to tame them is your own.

Re: Oil-Stained Wolf
Thanks Bundia- the info is appreciated and while I would like one, if it is against Blizzard's ToS I'd rather not get mixed up with any legality issues.
Re: Oil-Stained Wolf
Let's put it this way.. if you are going to try, only use the death-timing method, don't use the other scripted methods.
I imagine Blizz will put in a full fix in the future. And if you do tame one with the death-timing method, do it quietly, and don't blab it here.
