My ticket got responded to, and I went to my horde toon (same server) and had them on my friends list to see if they were on, just to find out. "Character with that name no longer exists." Someone got deleted/banned, and it wasn't one of my friends! Justice has been done! Now, if only the damn turtle would spawn again...

Oh hey, guess what I get in the mail several minutes ago; Crystalline Tear of Loyalty, along with a message "From yours truly, Terrorpene". That's a massive slap in the face. I can only assume it came from that same hunter who killed Terrorpene that day. Screenshot added of the atrocity.


Well, today I finally decided to try my hand at camping Terrorpene. There was another hunter at a northern spawn area, so I went south, to avoid any trouble. My hand had the right oven mitt apparently, as the big smoldering monstrosity spawned right next to me as I landed! I was absolutely astonished that it would spawn next to me, so much so that I dropped off my mount and began to tame it. Just as the stories went, it hurt like...hell?, but I was fine at 85. I was almost done taming when another hunter, the very same one from moments earlier, swoops in and distracting shots it off of me. I do the same back then FD, and heal up as the thief hunter fails taming it. I quickly try again, and halfway through the tame this other hunter once again does the same madness. We fight over it for about 5 minutes (I'm alliance, they are horde) with us both dying at least once, and it ends with them killing it. My first time attempting to actually camp a rare, and it ends miserably. I may not have been in the zone first, but I was next to Terrorpene and I came out there for it. It's not in poor taste to try taming something that I want and got lucky finding right off the bat, right?

Distraught, I simply logged out and began watching a playthrough for Amnesia; The Dark Descent. I hope that the fear and madness from this playthrough will ease my sadness for losing a rare to a fellow..well, due to that rudeness, losing it to a bloody thief. Screenshot shows the poor turtle after it was killed, and the face of the thief. I blocked out the name in the event that it was someone from here. If that was you, shame on you, stealing from a fellow member of the community. For any Shadowsong US players, it was killed at 3:45 server, roughly. Good luck to any Shadowsong players looking for it, because I quit for now (not the game, just camping rares).


EDIT: My luck turned around a bit! I found and tamed Ghostcrawler! Named him Karkinos, Greek for Cancer.

Awwww:( that's so sad poor you and the turtle don't worry you will get another chance! I had my troubles getting Terror I died while trying to tame him, came back and another hunter was taming him, I felt sad and watched the hunter get him and I logged out.

But a few days later I came back and Terror was up and I was alone so I got him! Called him Lucky:)

There's one question I'd like to ask. It may be a dumb one though, but in this instance; if a hunter is camping one spawn point, does it mean he is first in line to tame the pet for both north and south spawn points? I'm just trying to get an understanding why he would fly over to the southern point and cuz all that trouble, was it because he is pissed that he's been waiting at one spawn point and felt he had dibbs on all spawn points.

And honestly, you have no way of knowing how long that hunter was there, they could have just showed up five minutes ago themselves. Plus, being on opposite factions, you had no way of asking. They could have been there for something else, though it's likely they were there for Terrorpene. To be honest, I'm not sure what I would have done. I like to say that I'd have tried to see if they wanted it, but if there were another hunter in Uldum and green Madexx spawned, and they weren't there at that spawn point at that time, I'd probably tame it.

In any case, they shouldn't have tried to steal the tame from you, that was wrong, and I'm sorry it turned out in the poor beasty's death. It's really rather counter-productive, isn't it? They could have just let you have it and be on your way, because now, both of you are going to be there again.

I'm sorry to hear about that, and may you have better luck when you decide to go back.

Personally that hunter cant call dibs on the entire area. There are two spawn points, and you were nice enough to leave his spawn point alone so he had no reason to go and steal your tame. Id say thats clear greifing because you had him tagged. I am sorry that happened to you, what is the point of going back and forth until the mob is dead. You tagged it first, I could see if maybe you had died then if the guy was going to be a jerk about it, he could attempt it, but to steal it right when you were taming, and clearly in tame is just wrong.

I hope you get terrorpene! Makes you kinda wish you were in a pvp server huh? Youll get him, just dont give up

Sasrei said it perfectly, and I fully agree. You went to your own spawn point, that was the risk they took. It was totally wrong for them to try to nab YOUR tame.

I have to agree that the hunter that pulled it off you was in the wrong as you had it already. Right now I'm camping Terrorpene (my last cata rare) with a couple other hunters here, plus the others that do flybys. I know these other hunters are not going to care about how long I have been camping him. As soon as he spawns its going to be a free for all. In this kind of situation though I believe its whoever tags and begins taming him first gets it imo. I'm not going to steal it off another hunter that has already begun taming it and I'm hoping these other guys do the same for me if I manage to get it ..sadly I have my doubts.

To avoid any "interference" in the future, have a core hound, make a macro for blood lust + dismiss for a quick tame. Sooner you're done less time for your competition to have a second thought.

Also don't forget to get a tag first.

I don't really understand the "if I can't have it no one can" mentality, as you will have to compete against that person even longer. Except now he/she has a favor to return.

i dont get these people, because of that that hunter has yet another person looking for the beast, it overall just makes the process LONGER for everyone if someone kills the pet mid tame.

It was Arcturis and I dunno how the Night Elf hunter who was trying to tame him died, but after the third death I kinda figured that was it and snagged the beast.

I've never seen Terrorpene out in the wild. I've seen a hunter who'd tamed him and, judging from my cache, been in range of another tamed one. There's usually at least one hunter camping the area when I'm up there. If another snags him, then kudos to 'em. I'm sure not gonna try to steal him or, worse, kill him.

I bet he/she wasnt even spec'd into BM and didnt understand why it wasnt working... for that I would actually feel bad that they couldn't do it but yeah I would say allowing them to attempt to tame him 3 times is more than enough.

Yup. I dunno what she was doing, but after 3 tries, I felt it was kinda my turn.

I will confess to killing a rare spawn another hunter was after, but I'll claim extenuating circumstances. Long long ago, a Night Elf hunter was tearing up the Crossroads. Not long after, I was riding near Ratchet and got the alert for Humar from Rarefinder or whatever mod I had going at the time. Lo and behold, there was the nelf from XR just starting to tame. I figured he didn't deserve the black lion after messing up lowbie questing. So, yeah, I'm guilty of being a bit of a jerk.

I really, really wish they included in the tame beast tooltip:

"beast cannot be attacked by other players during the taming process because it is tagged by the hunter."

then what would interrupt the tame?
- if pvp, ganking
- if pve, maybe a random mob attacking you? 'shrugs'

just wishful thinking. GL still on that man, I'm out here with not much sleep heck almost passed out at the board a few hours ago, grabbed some grub & a soda, sittin out here with another hunt at north, we agreed to work it out when he spawns i.e. I fail he tries, he fails I try; one of us will get him dag nab it!

Edited first post, but I just had a good turn of luck! With no Terrorpene in sight, I tamed the elusive Ghostcrawler! Also killed a speed hacker in the process, as he tried mining next to me as GC was hitting me with Nerfbat. Was funny as hell!
