when i say that i mean, in general. There are alot of people who dont like it when you have lets say terrorpene out when you in hyjal because it s his spawn zone. I said in my post that, is you are in the zone, then you should be able to have any pet you want out, just if it is a rare spawn in the zone stay clear of the spawn area(s). If you need to farm in a spawn spot, then bring another pet out if possable if you cant for some reason or another, let everyone know that you are sorry ( for setting scanners off) and that you are not looking for the rare since you have them you are only farming mats/questing. :)

The way i feel, you shouldnt tell someone not to being a rare into a zone because you are either looking for it, dont want you scanners going off, etx. They have a right to be there with their pet ( not saying nayone here is saything that, i have seen it on my server). Also, back in the days of old school wow, we didnt have scanners it was all track beast, kept your eyes open, and scrolled over EVERY single dot on the mini map xD shoot as much as i love the scanners, back in the day without them, there wasnt all this fuse about what pet you had out and where :)

what happened to spamming a good ol' macro for rares?

I've never used an addon to find the rares I've tamed. I always just write up a quicky macro that will /whisper me when it targets the "name" of the rare I'm hunting at the moment.

A bit of palindromic wisdom:
"Step on no pets!"
Casual player.. don't raid, don't PvP. Suffer from extreme altitis
I love pets - combat or non.

^^ i so agree, like i said yes i use the addon scanners but, they can be so unreliable, and cause false hope. Where as a macro, and go ol lookin cant as much. I know even though i have the scanners, i still have my macros i spam for the rare i am lookin for sometimes they are as simple as /target Sambas, or ill do it so it targets ad whisper me, and even though i do that i STILL do the ol' track beasts and scroll over every mini dot, and keep my eyes peeled lol. i think no matter what you really cant beat old fashion looking for rares heh just imo.

But to the point, again just imo this is such a touchy topic, everyone has their own opinions, and its so hard becuase i know if im in TH farming mats or questing, i want to be able to use sambas or karoma, i make sure to stay clear of their spawn poiints, but there will always be people who feel, that you should pull a rare out in the ZONE they spawn in which i feel, is wrong :( i can see not having them out in their spawin POINTS, but ZONE, no, you should be able to have them out in the ZONE. again just imo.

The scanners really are a blessing..... and heartbreaker.

I use a combination of macro and npcscan - I hadn't started using npcscan til a hunter friend told me about it when I was looking for Skoll. My main for nearly 3 years was a prot pally human and when I decided to try out a PVP server as horde, I decided to roll a BE Hunter. I wish there was a way to easily delete a cached item from inside the game in regards to npcscan, or to have an option that says "Notify me about this rare even if it is cached" it would be nice.

I also agree about the TB leather - the only thing that would make it a little easier is if horde on our realm had TB a little more often than we do! Haha.

In response to Cialbi:

I believe we just has a misunderstanding regarding my interpretation of your original post. Thank you for clarifying and I too apologize for any misunderstanding on my part.

In response to Siliverin:

I fully agree it appears there is no right or wrong answer here. I think the best bet is to do our best to be respectful of other hunters regardless of faction and recognize that whether or not we are looking for the same pet, or just getting materials, we shouldn't go off on another hunter for wanting to be in that location for whatever reason.

Overall, I think this has been an interesting topic to discuss and I thank you all for your opinions regarding this matter!

So my question is.. what would you guys do? What DO you do if you have been in this situation?
Strip my character naked, equip a fishing pole and a silly hat, and just go fishing. No one will surely believe you're going to try and tame Terrorpene naked.

Oer perhaps do all this, grab a temp pet, and name it 'JustFishin'. that's what I'd do, tbh.

Ryai, that's brilliant! Granted, it is pretty easy to re-equip all your gear with the push of a button, but you're hopefully sending the right message.
If you have it in your bank still because you're a packrat like me, you could alternatively equip your Vestments of Summer.

Haha that is a good idea- and even better, you could then name temp pet 'FireFishin' instead. And even more to the point you could tame a temp corehound for this name. As I don't think there is any hunter troll out there that'd go thru all this trouble just to go and be an asshole to hunters.

Well, Cathyliz7 did mention that she really doesn't have any room in her stables for temporary pets. I suppose she could buy a couple Certificates of Ownership (now comes without a cooldown!), and rename a pet to turn it into a message board. Of course, the name change would be temporary - she'd change it back once she's maxed LW or at least can't get any more benefit from volatile fires in terms of skillups.

YES. I love this. I was going to reply to this with something of the effect of not having a lot of room in my stables for trash pets but that I could always rename one temporarily, but then I saw the following post:

My response to both is that it is a great idea and I think if people really wanted to gank me that's their prerogative (I AM on a PVP server) but I think it would be a lot less likely to be hunters doing it.

Thank you for the great idea Ry!!!!
