Trap Launcher bug?

Unread post by Nurofen »

Hello all (first post here)

As per title, trap launcher : it starts an auto-attack. If you have a target selected at the time it results in a pull. And most often in a wipe as everyone else is still mana-ing up and gettign ready. Am I missing a trick?

Thanks

Trap Launcher is still very clunky, it's best not to have a target selected just click and point to the ground.

It also starts the GCD so you'd have to click again to select the type of trap or use a castsequence maybe... Why can it not be like flare or like any other ground-based spell (eg flare, flamestrike) ?

Because simply giving us five new versions of Freezing Arrow would have been too easy, sensible, and convenient. So we ended up with this albatross instead.

Overall I've found the Trap Launcher system to be very clunky and poorly designed. Like Koumaru, I'm also at a loss as to why they didn't just didn't give us one-click spells like the old Freezing Arrow. If you're suddenly needing to send a trap with almost no notice and in the middle of a rushed situation, it's very awkward to work around the two step process while you're panicking to set it.

That's also assuming you're lucky enough to get the unbugged version. To make a short story short, my trap launcher bugged in a bizarre way that meant I reached 85 and was halfway through my third heroic before I finally asked another hunter "am I supposed to only be able to launch an ice cube trap?"
"Uh... no. They're all launchable."
"...what?!"

I had traps macroed to save keyboard space. Turns out that using Trap Launcher tweaks the spell IDs enough that sometimes it'll confuse your macros and make them not work. I tried tweaking the macro text as a post on Wowhead suggested, but that just made it so the traps only worked if I had Trap Launcher up. I gave up and made proper, unmacroed hotkeys for all my traps-- NOW they work. Just... gah. GAH. I wanted that hotkey space, dangit! (And I would have liked someone to set me straight on that a bit earlier. Rargh.)

Yeah, trap launcher's really clunky. I'd say 30% of the time when I need to launch one in the heat of battle I mess something up and end up dropping the trap at my feet, where it doesn't do any good. Add in the delays between the trap launching, dropping, and arming, and it becomes really tough to ice-trap a moving target...I'd say my success rate is under 20% on mobile pulls.
