Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I'm not fussed at all by that, then. It gives a less exhausting way for people to attain the model, but extra effort is still required to permanently keep a color.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
This may sound kind of silly, but I've been trying to find the blue Madexx and as soon as I saw this I began to lose interest. I have black and green, maybe I will just stick with those.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I'm really glad they put this model as a common beast. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised they made blue one of the options, I kinda figured they'd go with bronze and black as they are more "dull", and leave the red/blue/green as rare spawns. But with it being a color changer, people still won't have a truly blue scorpid unless they get a blue Madexx.
And really, when I think about it, I very rarely see someone parading around anywhere - questing or in a major city - with a scorpid. People more often have a bear or crab tenacity pet (tons of crabs, surprisingly). Scorpids are bugs, after all, and not many people like bugs. Not to mention their ability isn't one of the most popular (at least, I hear people complain about it more often than I do some other skills). I don't think this new scorpid is going to mean a sudden surge of scorpids running around. I'm betting that people might tame it at first to try it out, and then go back to Yogi the bear.
to all!

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I'm not really a fan of bugs, but I think it's pretty cool that Blizz threw a color changer our way. If you want that model, easy tame. If you want a specific color, it's off to the laps around the desert for you.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I'm still not happy with the update but if they're colour changers it's a little less of a kick to those who have camped for Madexx.
Love my pet for what it is... sure. I have plenty of pets, many of them common old spawns I can pick up anywhere. My #1 pet is a nightsaber stalker cat from the Nelf start area. As I said previously, I like my Madexx, but a nice portion of that "like" was because he was rare. I mean, lol, if I - we, the community - didn't pick up pets purely because they were rare I'm comfortable to say that many of us would have a lot more stable space. I know I would. I'd have at most 3 spirit beasts, my 3 cats, my coyote wolf, my fox, and my dragonhawk. And maybe a random tank pet. It's not a bad thing to admit to liking a spawn purely or in great part because it's "rare". If Madexx hadn't been a rare spawn I never would have hunted him down and discovered exactly how much I love the little dude
But my point still stands: if Blizz suddenly made Loque a common spawn you can bet a huge number of people would be kicking up a fuss about it. It's certainly an individual's opinion but I know many people feel the same way, regardless of whether or not others can't see what the fuss is about.
At the end of the day, I suppose it doesn't matter. I camped my scorpion and I'm happy with him. It just would have been nice to keep him unique. And perhaps even out the scales by making the Sambas skin a common spawn too (both Alli/Horde mount versions being readily available). But I know for a fact that I'd ditch my Sambas if that happened... I haven't got the connection to him like I do my Ruchbah :X

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I agree that rares should be put on shorter timers, except for the ones that actually drop something like mounts or heroic quality gear. Or perhaps the ones that drop mounts, like TLPD or the stone dragon should have a much smaller chance of spawning than Vyragosa/Xariona. They made Shadowclaw have a 10 minute spawn timer- doesn't mean I like the pretty kitty any less.
As for this, I'll admit I was a little miffed when I saw they put not only two Madexx skins on common mobs, but that they were the two -I- had. I tamed the brown after FOURTY PLUS hours of camping. The blue happened out of pure dumb luck. I still have yet to see the black, whether it be in the wild, or tamed by another hunter. I've only seen brown, blue, and red. And then I realized, hey, I can free up a stable slot! I can finally go tame Nuramoc like I wanted. In fact, I hope they either put all Madexx colors out in the wild and make Madexx himself the color changer, or make Madexx spawn in seperate, static colors, and make this change into all the various colors. I just don't want to camp another 40 plus hours to have a -chance- at seeing the black version, and even then have him possibly be killed in front of me, or tamed by another hunter. I don't mind having to summon my scorpid 40-some times to finally get the black version. That wastes less time than the camp, and I could probably even work his color changing into my troll's RP.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
You know what, honestly? I don't care- with the fact people are constantly farming Uldum for ore, I've yet to see Madexx's carcass. Let alone a tame. Someone did try to claim they tamed a black Madexx, but never showed proof of it. All I care about is not going through another insane camping session again. Madexx is atm now like King Mosh. Still special, still hard to get, still will set NPC scan off.Comett wrote:Oh man, that's so not cool. I've grown to love my blue Madexx but a good part of that is how rare and difficult he was to obtain. Now he's going to be the same as every other scorpid there x_x
Anyways, Op, more specifically since I didn't notice anyone asking as I skimmed thru- are these NOT color changers? As I would love it if they weren't color changers, please tell me they aren't D:
Edit:
...They are color changers, in case ya'll missed my update.
Well *explicitives here until the end of time*
And I was just hoping for a blue scorpid and a orange beetle finally.
Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
I didn't check the beetle. It may or may not be a changer.Ryai wrote:and a orange beetle finally.

Go, please, check, please. Having an orange beetle is one thing that can make up for not being able to get to Kri yet D:

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
Ok, went back and checked, and the orange death-head beetle is a changer with another tan. The other small tan one with the different skin is NOT a changer.
sorry...
sorry...

Request: Would someone mind checking the Vale Howler monkeys in Stranglethorn Vale to see if they're still color-changers? I'd like a stable brown monkey, sans pick-axe.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
Agreed. Who cares if its unique or not? It only matters if YOU like it. No one else really gives two pents otherwise.Vephriel wrote:Heh, a little perplexed at why some people are so upset over this, I suppose I just don't really understand.
I've got the blue Madexx, love him to pieces. This change has absolutely no effect on my feelings towards him nor at Madexx in general. No skin is going to be 'unique'. I see the rare unique models far more than common skins. You'd be more likely to get stares standing in a city with a plain brown boar or something.
Love your pet for who it is, not over its rarity. If you want the thrill of the hunt, then camp for Madexx. Who cares if there's a couple of the skins out there now on regular mobs? Your pet will be your pet, nothing can change that.
But hey, that's just how I see it.

Re: New Pets in Uldum on PTR
Different things hold more importance to different people. You and I might not care that our pet is "unique", but I know a lot of people are attracted to skins that are on a single mob, making their pet "special". There's nothing wrong with that train of thought or preference, that's just that individual's like/dislike.
So for some of us, eh.....doesn't really matter one way or the other. But many people are attracted to a particular beast for its uniqueness, it's the thrill of the hunt, finding that one beautiful beast that stands apart from the others. Then suddenly making them super-common might take some of that spark out of the hunter/pet relationship. I can certainly understand that. Heck, to an extent, I actually feel that way myself, though I wouldn't let it affect the way I feel about my few "unique" pets. They're still my babies. But that's just me.
I dunno, I'm not gonna waggle my finger at others because they might put a lot of value on rarity/unique appearances. That's their playstyle, who am I to say that they should just stop caring?
