No worries, had it been anyone else (aside from myself since I am actively searching for Loque) that I'd rolled it for I would have rerolled. I've given alternatives.

Also when Slic gets back I'd be very interested to know how he chooses everyones random pets. :)

I believe the most common method is to do a first /roll 1-32 for the pet families and then a /roll for all the skins within that family.

That's how I did it when I helped out Ache in the old thread.

Aw, yay! :) Glad to see someone helping out Slic. I was not apart of the original thread so I had no idea how he was doing it, lol.

As a suggestion, I would use the /roll method. That way, there's no issues with 'increasing odds' of some numbers. More common to roll 7 on 2d6 than it is to roll 7 on 1d12, for example. :D

Finally, FINALLY giving my report on the Dark Green Crocolisk! This is a little late! Again no pics, sorry - my internet won't allow.
Tamed one from Durotar without much difficulty. First thing I noticed is that the color seems... bland to me. I had a yellow croc on that character for a while, though he was changed to a new skin (Cata croc, bluegreen). I love my current crocolisk, but this new one seemed very lifeless for some reason. Must have been the lack of any warm colors, but it just looked boring.

I did go out and use him for a bit - as with my other crocolisk, he holds aggro like a champ and does a fair amount of damage. I like his waddling run animation and his sounds, just about everything about the pet besides the color. He was nice and low profile, too, yet big enough to be menacing.
Also, his swim animation is <3! Smooth and very close to how a real crocodile swims. I love it. The only problem is it's a little too fast, so it looks a bit hyper. xD

If I could get a new roll for my lower level hunter, I'd love it. :-)

RIGHT :) I had already tamed a Loque awhile back, so I'll review it here as promised. I'm sure most everyone here already has a Loque, or is searching for one, but here goes

I had tamed Loque on a whim twice--the first time, I actually found him with something like 5 minutes left till server down on a Tuesday night. I couldn't find anyone who wanted him, and my guildmate threatened to kill it rather than leave it at server down, so I did tame it. I never liked the anatomy--his face is goofy and his neck is tiny, with massive shoulders (which is strange, because I ADORED Harkoa--perhaps because you can't see her neck due to her size  ). But I played with him for awhile anyway. I ended up abandoning, and taming another, in a similar situation; again, ended up abandoning.

I realized later though, oddly, that I missed his sounds, so I camped and tamed a third; named him Chaos and still have him.

A few points to cover on what I feel about Loque:

* His anatomy does leave something to be desired. His shape is both impossible and uncomfortable to look at, at times. He is about the same size as other cats, meaning he won't get in your way, at least.

* His coat is gorgeous. I love the sort of tribal, primordial markings on his coat, and the glow, eye glow, mouth glow, glowing spots etc. It tends to take a bit of the glow from wherever you are, taking on sunset, golden or blue hues, and in general the base shade ranges from pure white to pale creamy-brown depending on where you are. Looks great I think.

* His animations are good; they're regular cat animations, but look quite smooth on his unique model.

* I love his sounds. They are LOUD, be warned; it's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it thing (much like the whole package).

* As for combat, he's good. The DPS is well up there, what with Roar of Courage, and properly specced he's a beast in PvP as well. The heals have hit me for as much as near 8k for the initial tick in bgs. His LOUD NOIIIISES ensure you won't lose track of him in what can be chaotic PvP situations as well--IF you play with sound on, of course.

* The overall "personality" strikes me as very alert and observant; the model uses the druid cat idle animations, or sabrecat, meaning he's continually turning those glowing eyes left and right, and twitching the ears about to listen.

Remembering the trouble I had with my dog's jaw lock, I immediately had some worries that the crab would be the same way. However, I also remembered the joy I had with my little red crab many years ago, when I was first testing out unloved pets. So.... hey. You never know!

As I was in Northrend to be able to do some archaeology when I finally decided to do this, my crab of choice was one of the Tanaris ones. From Dalaran to The Caverns Of Time got me there, and then down to the beach for my crab. Nothing to it.

Image

Friends: meet Sushi.

Image

The first thing I noticed was that they click when they walk. I'd forgotten about that, and I'm rather surprised I had. See, I quite like it. The clicking's a nice, rhythmic sound that I find quite soothing. It might get on someone's nerves if they are not used to it, or if the incessant nature of it made someone twitchy, but for me? I adored it.

Secondly, color-wise, as you can see in my traditional close-up, they are actually quite pretty. 'Bronze' is a good term for it, I think. The face, though, only a mother could love. Can't be unseen! .... although it's cute in a 'Rawr I eat joo' way.

Image

Sushi's combat test was a trial by fire: he got to come around with me for my Wildhammer dailies. And by the end of it, my greatest fears were realized. 'Pin' on autoattack was being used as one of his first moves. And since pin is channeled, this means for 4 seconds, he does nothing. Which means I'm getting a good threat lead on the enemy. So it is with heavy heart that I must declare the ability 'unfit for auto-attack'. As a tenacity pet, though, the little guy had no problems holding aggro, even at level 82. And the little growly sounds he makes when attacking are absolutely adorable.

With only two stable slots left, Sushi will be returned to the wild world of Tanaris when I go back to my archaeology. However, the memories of my little (level 70) red crab and I were brought back nicely by this bronze one. Thanks for the chance!

Thanks guys for posting your stories! I'm glad you (Kurasu) tried the crab again. Love the name you picked. And I have to say up close that colour and shiny skin texture look really pretty.

And thanks, Acherontia for being a good sport about Loque. I can't believe you abandoned him twice!!! Sorry he is just my favourite pet. But I see what you mean about his body.

LupisDarkmoon, glad you got the crocolisk, I'll get you a new random when I am more awake tomorrow! Also I need to go tame my randoms!

If someone else asked for a new random as well, sorry I will check tomorrow to make sure I don't forget you!

Indeed, I can't believe it either. I mean, I hear horror stories about people camping him--but then, my server (Nagrand EU) has a rather low population I think, and I've helped more hunters than I can remember to tame spirit beasts I've just "run into." Bar the 2 times I tamed Loque spur-of-the-moment, I also helped four or so other hunters to tame him by whispering a ton of people when I ran into him. But he kept appearing for me--I guess he just really likes me, despite my rarely using him nowadays ;) Of course, he didn't appear for me when I actually WANTED him--had to camp a bit then!!

I feel so guilty actually, so many pets I HAD to have that never see the light of day!! I wish I could swap between ALL of them while out & about.

I love giving my pets actual names, even if I'm just testing them out. Partially because it personifies them in my head, and makes me likely to think positively of them, rather than the negatives. Also because with a name, it's more likely that I will take a shine to them and potentially keep them. Even 'silly' sounding names like Stinkobear. :)

I'll probably put up a shout for another in a couple days. It's a fun game and gives me something to do. :D But for now I need to focus on leveling an alt and poking at things on the PTR.

I had the Black Crab for my random tame.

A quick look on petopia and then wowhead led me to The Shimmering Expanse (made me glad I had at least gone through Vashj'ir long enough to get my underwater breathing and seahorse mount). Swam to the other side of Nespirah and picked one of these guys up.

Simple tame. They're yellow, level 80 mobs. When I first saw the petopia picture of these guys I thought they seemed a little drab, but when I tamed Imitation (bad pun name, I know, but I have no desire to keep him past this challenge >_>), I found I liked the color better. He's labeled as being black, but his shell is more of a deep bronze color and his little spikes are black. He's actually kind of pretty.

Image

My troll huntress has a crab so I didn't go do a full set of stuff with this guys as I know what they're like. They're hardy little pets and were one of the go to arena pets for WotLK. Their pin ability is nice, especially since they're tenacity they can take a little more beating than a dog might. Only downside I really see is that pin is channeled and might take some pretty good planning to use properly.

Crabs have quite a bit of character to them. They have an adorable walking and swimming animation, and they have cute battle noises. I love they way they swim, using their big front pincers like oars while swinging their little legs.

Overall, they're pretty cute little guys. They're hardy and their special ability can come in handy. I personally may or may not own another crab, as I prefer the damage that the dogs can bring, but I do think these guys can find great homes with people who will love them. ^_^
