AOE Farming?

Unread post by Sokujo »

Hello everyone.

I've just recently come back after a few month hiatus and I'm getting adjusted to my hunter in Cat.

I just had a question on the Worm. There's still a lot of rep farming to be had and I need to down grouped mobs as fast as I can, but I haven't quite got the hang of using the Worm.

Is there anyway to use Redirect, Burrow and launching Explosive trap together.

I cant send in the worm to burrow as the first move because it will kill the mobs before I hit them, which will result in no loot.

So can I redirect, launch explosive trap and then burrow, or as soon as my worm burrow's will I agro?

Are we hunters now basically not able to aoe farm anymore?

Worms will drop all aggro when they do Burrow, and are unable to gain any more. So unless you can stand in the middle of the crowd of enemies and take the hit, with the worm burrowing at your feet, you're not going to be able to AOE farm using that.

If you want to AOE farm, best choice is to use a Tenacity pet, Exlposive Trap, multishot and MD. It's slower, but it works! Or alternatively, you can just not AOE farm. ;)

I have 3 more levels until I'm 85.

I tried yesterday to see how fast I could get through the Steam Vaults for Cenarion Expedition Rep.

At 82, it was a little slow going. I found it almost easier with my cat, so that's why I was asking.

I suppose when I'm 85, I could probably just agro and take the hits..... it's just expensive that way. :)

Thanks for the input though, I just wanted to hear what others had experienced.

Best way to AoE farm is use a Turtle or Beetle (for their special abilities, alternate it with cower and they're practically invincible), Thunderstomp, Explosive Trap, Multi-shot and MD (glyphed so you can constantly MD to your pet). If you're BM, a lot of Mastery rating will help the pet hit harder with TS.

It is a bit slow, but it's also the safest way, ensuring the mobs stay on your pet and not scatter or split up to whale on you as well.

Thanks Ellaran, I'll try that method, it sounds like to best way.

I was just wondering,

If it's just me and my pet, do I have to target my pet and then Misdirect or can I just hit MD and it automatically work towards my pet?

Or should I look into making a macro or 2?

You hardly need misdirect at all honestly if you use a beetle. The worm ability is a little tricky but with a beetle you just send him into a pack of mobs, give him some threat with a tstomp, hit beast wrath, launch your explosive and spam multishot while keeping mend pet ticking. You could do this with any tenacity pet but you can't go wrong with harden carapace. :P

Macro.

Simplest is

/use [@pet] Misdirection

If you want to get fancier try something like this (or grab one from the web, there are a ton) - if you have a focus it targets that, else if you have a pet it targets that, else it casts normally:

/use [@focus,exists,nodead] Misdirection;[@pet,exists,nodead] Misdirection;Misdirection

Or you might be able to condense it like the below, but I can't remember if you can get away with this:

/use [@focus,exists,nodead,@pet,exists,nodead,@target] Misdirection

Back when I AOE farmed SV I used a turtle, which at lvl 80 (and with admittedly crappy gear, back then) made a big difference...

The correct way of folding together the conditionals would be:
/use [@focus,exists,help,nodead][@pet,exists,nodead][] Misdirection

You can use plain [] without the @target bit since that's the default when not mentioned. Also, it is probably a good idea to have "help" included for the @focus entry so you don't try to cast it on e.g. a boss you have focused.

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I played around a little more last night and my turtle worked beautifully! I just MD'd as a starter sent him in, threw my trap and multi-shoted and when I drew agro, it was from only one mob or two and I just had the turtle come back and draw agro off.

Sorry to turn this into a more "hunter" thread.

I just need to get more comfortable with the new mechanics.
