Raid Teams

Unread post by Adam-Savage »

I was wondering how other guild form Raid teams. I was on my lock herbing last night and the GM sends me a msg asking me what I was doing. I replied that I was herbing.. He is like your supposed to be a raid. I'm like no ? I didn't sign up so I didn't bother showing up. He is like your hunter is locked to the team. I replied well it would be nice if someone told me this. So I went back to dalaran and then told him I was switching over to my hunter. Good thing I did as we one shoted the 4th boss in ICC.

Some guilds do this. My guild however, has one "Main Team", and a "Secondary Team". You queue up for raids, but the Main Team automatically get their spot. The Secondary Team get to fill up any spots that are empty. If we get enough signups, we may make two raids, usually with a mixed makeup.

Normally a team sticks together once saved to a dungeon.

My guild will schedule raids, then come raid time really just go with everyone on at the time.
We're working on our attendance issue atm.

Most guilds will have a sign-up for raids. That being said, if you're a raider in a raiding guild, the assumption is that your privilege (being part of the team and getting gear) is reciprocated with loyalty - try to be there, be on time, be prepared, and for goodness' sake, if you decline, have a valid reason.

Tbqh, Adam, it sounds (from this post and a few others) like your guild needs to sit down and clearly formulate policies, expectations, and rules.

I probably would have thrown a fit over that if they started demanding to be there when I hadn't planned on it. I mean, what if I needed a day to just relax or something...or if I just wanted to fool around in-game without the stress of a boss?

Buuuut that's probably why I don't raid to begin with, haha!

Words of wisdom. Incidentally, that's also why I don't raid anymore. I don't want to (nor have reliable game time to) have my time dictated to me. The thrill of downing a boss does not outweigh the pleasure of sometimes just ignoring the computer to spend the evening playing with my son or watching a movie with my husband.

Well I could in theory not go to a raid night if I gave enough notice that I would not be there. My guild master is pretty laid back like that.

Right, but from the sounds of what you said, it sounds like you DID say you wouldn't be there, and they assumed otherwise. That would bug me, if I was yelled at or otherwise punished for not being available when I had PLANNED not to be available.

I agree. I just don't have the time. I'd like to see some of the content, and it is pretty cool to watch vids on youtube of people taking down these really complicated bosses. I love reading about HOW to take the bosses down.

But honestly I don't have the time to give; I can't donate several hours a week like that just to dying repeatedly until a boss goes down and hoping he drops phat lewts that I may or may not get, depending on luck. And sometimes, it's not even about the game. I might get a sudden inspiration to start writing about my original characters, or to read the latest book in my collection, or hang out with friends IRL (srsly who does that anymore?) I'd like my free time to be just that...free time, not tied to a second job in the digital dimension.
