My challenge was the lovely Amethyst Scarab:
Image

My hunter hadn't started Uldum yet so I found this a good oppurtunity to start the zone. For those who might be interested in this pet but haven't gone through the zone yet, you must do all of the starting Uldum quests, you will come across an NPC named Mack who will send you to meet up with Harrison Jones, thus opening his questline.

Do Harrison Jones' opening quest and you will see an item on the ground giving you a quest called "Just the Tip." This quest (and probably the tablet one as well) will open up the Chamber of the Stars questlines, which is what you need to complete to get one of these beautiful beetles. Just don't turn the quest, "After the Fall," in or these guys will phase out from you and you lose any chance to tame them.

All right, long intro on how to tame one of these bad boys over, now to the good stuff. =P
The colors on this guy are amazing and if I didn't already have Terropene, I'd keep this guy in a heartbeat.
Image

These guys and turtles make great tank pets, and unfortunately, that's all I see them as (as they're the only "true" tank pets in my opinion) and I don't need two tanks. Makes me kind of sad as I think the Cata skins of the beetles are amazing. Anyway, visually, this guy is amazing.

I was thoroughly surprised with how big the beetles grow; they really look like little armored tanks, which is awesome. I believe they share a sound file with other silithids so they're fairly quiet pets with cute little bug noises. I love the sound their little feet make as they walk. Their idle animation is adorable as well.
Image

I specced this guy for pure tanking, like my Terropene, and he holds aggro like a champ and takes a beating like a champ. If you're looking for a quality, no questions asked tank pet, these guys and turtles are the way to go.

Overall, great pet, I always wanted a beetle (until I found Terropene) and I'm now genuinely torn on whether to keep my little Kheper.

Okay, here goes :D

Image

My assigned beasty was the tan "mine" spider. My first thoughts were "yuck, spider," just because I prefer mammals :P I also thought that he was quite a creepy flesh tone color.

Taming: I picked the easiest one for me to get to, which was the "Mature Cavern Crawler." As I headed to tame it, I kept remembering how creepy I found his location the first time I went--as a level 65 or so, going through a long, narrow cave where you couldn't (in the past) even mount, full of spiders, and one HUGE spider lurking about, crawling through at random... Well, I was pleasantly surprised to find that my assigned spider WAS that big creepy spider. You can now fly through the cave, so I flew about until I found it, then brought it out into the rain to have a look. During the tame, I learned that this spider is actually a ranged mob, so my trap sat uselessly in front of me and the pet dinged at range--first time I've seen that.

First Impressions: My first impressions were that he really WAS a creepy flesh color, so I named him Fleshcrawler, as in creepy things making your flesh crawl :P He has a very large, round butt--almost looks like a spider full of eggs /shiver. I will also note here that the Dive/Mobility bug is present in this Cunning pet, as he's not a flying beast and can't get dive so currently can't be talented into Mobility.

Animations, Sounds & Appearance: Basic spidery stuff. His animations are skittery and twitchy, realistic really, and he washes his face during the idle which is quite cute. His sounds are very spiderlike, but his movement sounds I found quite irritating. They squelch and squish, rather than skitter, in my opinion, sounding like something running over a thin wet mattress or something. His SWIMMING animation is hilarious; if you've never seen a Mine Spider swim, go tame one and look. It sort of flails all its legs behind it like a crab or something, very goofy. His colors are flesh-toned everywhere, unlike many pets I've had whose colors seem to tint this way or that in various lighting situations. The front of his butt does have some green coloring though which will be more apparent in more dimly-lit, or blue/green, areas.

PvP: I've actually never used a spider or silithid in PvP. I therefore left the root on autocast as I'm simply not familiar enough with it to use it situationally (yet). I did find it extremely useful, and even at level 82, Fleshcrawler took an admirable beating, even taking on a rogue in Smokebomb without losing much health at all. I can certainly see the ranged root being very useful, although I do love my Chimaera's permanent snare. I would think that in arena, a spider or silithid's root would be excellent to manually use as a positioning device to throw your trap at, if you find Scatter shot too RNG.

I didn't use the spider in PvE, as I know how Cunning pets are. I wouldn't think the root is much use in a dungeon but I haven't tried, so I could be wrong. Cunning pets do decent dps in PvE, overall, and as the spider has no dps skill and as a level 82, wouldn't be good for comparison :(

Anyway, I got a new appreciation for spiders today, and their family skill. Thanks for rolling me a pet :D If a spider I more like or, preferably, a nice Silithid comes along, I may have to take one for a longer test drive! :)

My assigned pet was the white mining monkey from Deadmines. This is our story. Image

The Defias. I admit, as a Troll, I haven't had much to do with this group, but I know from the stories I have heard that they are a despicable bunch. When I set off to find a mining monkey, I knew I was going into the nest of evil. I guess I just didn't expect it to be as bad as it was.

I took Grym with me. Well, that isn't totally accurate... he came with me even though I set out to go alone. We came up on the entrance to the mines in Westfall, and instantly we knew something was wrong. Homeless citizens were everywhere in the mines. Even orphans. I am no fan of Stormwind, but this was inhumane.

As we travelled down into the mines trying to find the entrance into the Deadmines itself (should be called Dead-End Mines), I found Grym becoming more and more antsy. When we finally reached the entrance, I explained to Grym that I had to go alone. He fussed about a bit but finally obeyed me and stayed outside with the sleeping transients.

Image

When I entered the Deadmines, the Defias had no welcome thing to say. I showed them no love either, as I worked my way back. And that is when I discovered the horrible truth: goblins were enslaving monkeys to mine for them. In my rage, I began to slay every goblin I saw. I began to release the monkeys, and watch them fight.

For a moment, I was proud... but we became overwhelmed. I tried to save them all, but most were killed. A few monkeys escaped and ran back toward the entrance, but most... dead. It was carnage. Senseless carnage.

Image

Maybe if I kept a cool head, I could have saved more, I don't know. I was turning to leave when I spotted one of the monkeys still chained in the corner. It was picking away, ignoring what just happened. As I approached it, I saw it tense up and began picking harder. I saw the wounds from the whips, some still fresh. I undid his shackles, and placed my hand on his shoulder. I popped out a treat for him (had some tel'abim bananas since I knew I was coming this was), and I petted him. Instinctively he came to me and nestled by my side. I couldn't save them all, but by God I could save this one. We rushed out.

I took him to Stranglethorn. Who knows how long he was cooped up in that mine, never seeing the light of day, or felt the wind. I found one of the Vale Howlers that wandered around. The little mining monkey ran up to them and they just started hooting together like old friends.

Image

We carried on, and I decided Mistvale valley would be a good place to visit. He immediately jumped off my shoulder and ran toward the gorillas there, started pestering them. It was funny watching them chase him around.

Image

Finally, he ran up on one of the hills and looked down at me. He still held onto that mining pick, I don't know why. I guess we all have to let go of our horrid pasts in our own ways.

He stood on his hind legs and beat his chest like he was king of the jungle. I cheered for him. For that moment, this little guy was king.

I let him loose in Stranglethorn that day. He had been through enough already, he didn't need me bossing him around. It looks like he was ready to go out and be free. I will probably check in from time to time to see if he is still around, or if he still remembers me. I kinda hope he doesn't though. I wouldn't want seeing me remind him of his horrible past. Hes free now, and thats all that matters.

Image

As a pet, these guys are fun. I love the noises they make and I swear they scratch their butt with that pick  I dont PVP much so I cant speak for the usefulness of Bad Manner but I think its fun to torment critters and such with  I wonder if his combat hoots are annoying for tanks though haha

I like monkeys. They're just fun silly pets.

Ooooh, tan silithid wasp. I think I'll skip out on the ravager, I'm afraid - not enough time in the day to do that run. >.<
Anyway, I'll post back soon. Ish.
(Also, thanks for rolling again for me. :-) )

Nice ones today!
Tyger, I think you could spec Terrorpene to be more heavy-duty tank for taking on bosses, and Kheper a more nimble one that would be better able to deal with trash packs.
Acherontia, that spider... reminds me of a gorged tick I found on my dog once. Just plain gross :|
Quivering, that was quite the tale. I saw all those vagabonds as well when I got my Albino Eyegouger - I think I may just need to do the Westfall questlines to find out what exactly is going on in Moonbrook nowadays.

Report on a nice Tan Wasp! Yet again, no pictures. >.<

Dustgale, Tan Wasp
I must say, I really liked this pet. The Silithid Ravager was my favorite color of Ravager, and it spreads to the wasp. I love how the wings have pretty blue borders, and the tan seems soft and natural. The black spots really seem to stick out, too. Plus, there's a nice shine on his head, and in any environment it sticks out gorgeously. I even like how he moves and attacks, though he's a little low to the ground. The only problem is that he has no swim animation.

As for sounds, I love the sound of his wings. It's calming, a soft humming. His screeches are a little annoying, but I'll live, if only for that humm. While I write this WoW is in the background, and the humming is making me happy. It's like zen.

Now, for how good he is in battle? Meh, I must admit. He has great damage, but as with most of my non-tenacity pets he has trouble with aggro. The fact that he's without Thunderstomp also annoys me, and it makes me itch for my crocolisk.
As for his special skill, it's not all that useful unless I'm fighting a healer, and with such a long CD it remains fairly hard to make use of.

Anyway I'll be keeping Dustgale. He's too pretty to get rid of, and that hum is therapeutic, I swear.

Another? :->

Moey here, partially to look for an RP pet, partially to kill time.

Name: Moey

Exotics: No exotics yet... =\
Misc: Horde side. I love bugs! ((All types of insects and arachnids welcomed, but it can really be anything.)) Feel free to give me something in non-Nelf/non-Draenei but-still-ally territory.

Moey's IC Scrapbook:

My new Beetle.

I've been longing to tame this sucker for a good while...just never have had the time. I set off from the ol' Gobby Slums ((Got good drinks, to anyone who's reading this.)) to an old slithild silthid whatever hive to tame my newest companion.

Slight mistake on my part, nearly got taken down by some aquatic-adapted ((I ain't spellin' that)), but I managed to fight them off. The finding of the one beetle that actually took a liking to me wasn't all that difficult--she rushed up to me and begged with her pretty brown eyes to be taken out of the water. So, I happily obliged.

As soon as that was over, I headed back to Org' and found myself signing up for a quick run in some place called Dire Maul to help my new friend gain some new combat experience.

Boy, was that unnecessary. It turns out she was a strong fighter from the start, and that nifty carapace-hardening trick sure does work like a charm. Unfortunately, we all ended up running away in fear before we got to the ogre king...dang, that guard-ogre-dude can yell...

OOC:

Excellent pet, will be taming another beetle but most definitely keeping this one. Nearly prevented a wipe on the aforementioned PUG, but the healer was OOM at the time, and Mend Pet doesn't really do nearly as good a job. I have a feeling if the wipe was the tank's fault, and not the OOM healer's, we would have taken down that stupid boss.

Looks excellent, and as the lowest level tame-able beetle, it's rather unique. Only skin of its kind, too! Love the occasional idle animation, It's adorable. ((For the unknowing, it looks back and forth. Rather adorably.))

That was fast, and well done! I think that it's worth mentioning that if you are a level 69+ BM hunter that likes the beetle animations but doesn't want another tenacity pet, another option would be to tame an ant silithid

Well, Cialbi exists again :D
So, here's some ideas. My turtle has a nigh indestructible spec. The last talent point can go into Charge if you really miss it, or Great Resistance. I'd also like to stress that the points in Great Resistance aren't that necessary, and could easily be put into Culling the Herd if you would rather.
My bear, on the other hand, is more of a balanced spec. The points in Serpent Swiftness could be easily reallocated to Spiked Collar, and you may or may not find Intervene to be useful for times when FD is on CD.
Use one pet for single-target tanking, and the other for multi-target/AoE tanking. While you could try to get away with no threat talents on your Tenacity pet, I think that constantly spending GCDs on Misdirection gets really annoying and definitely has its limits.

*pardon the huge pics.*

So i was challenged to get:
The grey gorilla.
Image

I was given the challenge of capturing a gray gorilla. During my adventures i had seen a few here and there but the ones that really stood out were the ones in Sholazar basin. I mounted up and flew to capture a gorilla. I swoop down into the basin keeping my eyes open for the King and Loque'nahak. I spot my gorilla!

I set down and begin my tame.
Image

Me and Gorilla decided to test our bond by taking on a random challenge. We flew to Outland and ran deep into the slave pens. It was here that Mr.Gorilla shined. He took them and made them focus on him while i took them down. He was not to be though. As much as me and Mr.Gorilla liked each other we just couldn't get over how odd we were together. Plus i kept handing him flea powder and he wasn't keen on being powdered.
So flew back over to Sholazar and left him back with his family.
