Re: Quick question [PTR]
They didn't switch the NPC ID for those of us who had the original blue Rak'shiri, either. We got told to suck it up and tame Shy-Rotam if we wanted a blue cat. So far as I can tell, it's not something that's usually done.
So I did. And I'm getting rid of the white tiger I got stuck with to go in search of the pure white skin I find far more attractive...if we can just figure out where the heck Noah put it.
I really do feel awful for those of you that are losing beloved pets/skins to this change...I've been there. /hugs

Re: Quick question [PTR]
We don't know what they're doing yet. Don't decide that 'This is final. I better abandon him now while I have the chance!'. Instead, settle in, be patient, and wait to see what happens? Make your complaints and comments, of course, but... well... this isn't the final build. I'm guessing we have at least one more before it's all done (I hope I hope I hope) so try and keep calm!

Re: Quick question [PTR]
Yeah, that still leaves a sour taste in my mouth, Tahlian. I really felt for you when they changed Rak'shiri's skin. Personally, they could have/should have just changed Shy'rotam's skin, seeing as how her mate is also white. Would have made a lot more sense to me doing it that way.
But then I'm sure there are people who have bonded with Shy, too. So, maybe the best would have been to retire an ID and place a new one out there as white. Dunno.
I'm usually behind any changes Blizz makes when it comes to pet options, but changing pets that people have already tamed and bonded with just bothers me. Retire the IDs and create new ones, stick them somewhere else, whatever. Just don't mess with the pets that many of us have had for YEARS.

Yeah, there's no easy solution for this. some will be happy, some sad, and it keeps flopping around depending on what pet is changed.
In the end, the more skins that are available, the better, so hopefully the color-changers are split so the colors at least stay solid. Few like color changers.
For me, I JUST tamed my green Madexx, so at least I don't have to worry about that anymore..

I actually like this idea. Although I can fully understand people not wanting to lose their stable blues and browns, personally I think it makes it fairer to the majority who tamed a blue or brown. If it was possible I would say Blizz should offer a choice (as I have a blue and would prefer it to become green rather than red) of new color for old tamed Madexx or to keep it the same stable color as it was already.

Re: Quick question [PTR]
I'm not abandoning my Madexx just yet. I might get over the creeps-me-out factor even with the red dye job because it's my critter.
If I can't... well I just hope they're making the brown and blue scorpids stable, not color changers. Because if they're changers and I can't put up with the red, there goes my critter, no way of even keeping him the same by retaming another mob. That's what worries me the most. :S
Meh. If you ask me, skin changes on mobs should always be done by retiring the old IDs and making fresh ones.
That way, those who like the new skin better than the old can go tame the new version (which will still be the same creature); those who like the old better than the new aren't forced to adjust or tame a completely different creature.

Wow, that's just...a kick in the teeth for those that camped bronze or blue. I...I'm now really glad that while I liked blue, I wanted red just as much...and after giving away 'my' first Madexx (a black), the one that spawned for me was red. I'm also grateful that I decided very firmly NOT to camp it any more after taming Ismat.
...And that I never found the blue on my casual flybys since then. Rak'shiri was difficult enough to come to terms with.

Re: Quick question [PTR]
I went through a lot of work, two Madexx tames and three spottings to get my blue.
I'm sad that they are changing him to red in that I loose the blue color I so like, but I have not seen the red in person so maybe I will like it.
Though I will say it would make more sense for the brown and black to be common, as they are real colors of scorpions, and the blue, red and green be the rare 'exotic' color. To me at least. But then I run around with a ghost wolf, a flaming turtle pokemon and a purple ghost kitty.... so I know logic does not always apply.
If I dont... it will free up a stable spot so I can go Olm hunting at least. If not then the Hell-Hoot I just tamed might be my companion only until I can find Olm. O_o

Re: Quick question [PTR]
OK, since I have calmed down a little let me get something off of my chest.
I would like to know how many of you actually started out camping for the blue or brown Madexx and actually passed up taming the other colors just because you wanted one of those two colors?
I would be willing to bet that most of you who wanted brown or blue either got them on the first camping trip, or decided that you liked them after taming them and you really didn't care what color you got in the first place.
It comes down to one little thing that Blizzard could do (change the color changers into stable colors) and that might make people happy, but for the diehard "I GOTTA HAVE THIS PET BECAUSE I BONDED WITH IT" hunters won't be happy because their scorpions will no longer be "rare and unique".
I am not going to get into the skin vs. virtual bond argument again, because I think I had enough of that in the Rak'shiri thread, but sometimes we all have to take the chips where they lie... and I tame my pets because I like their skin.. I could care less if they are rares or not... I go for uniqueness... somewhat. For instance, I have that rare white gorilla (name escapes me at the moment) from Un'goro... and now I see that there is going to be a be white gorilla rare spawn in STV... I will probably end up getting rid of my white gorilla just because of that... but that means I can tame a new friend, so I am not worried at all.
Making two Madexx skins common so people don't have to camp for them is GREAT for everyone, IMO. But keeping two Madexx skins (blue and brown) on Madexx and him having a very hard to judge spawn time, spawn location, and the total RNG of his skin color... is just stupid...
I don't want to camp for Madexx for 3+ weeks only to have him spawn in a color that I could have flown south a little ways to tame at any given time, and I don't want to keep an old Madexx with a now common skin.
With that said I think this is the best thing (for now) that Blizzard can do, and I hope they consider making the common ones non-color-changers.

Re: Quick question [PTR]
I personally like the red color more than the blue. I tamed red on PTR and I also have the blue color-changer. When I first saw the colors I was all over the blue... but then a guildie tamed the blue, so I was after the green then... after seeing the brown spawn and not wanting to lose a tame I grabbed him.Merlynshade wrote:I'm sad that they are changing him to red in that I loose the blue color I so like, but I have not seen the red in person so maybe I will like it.

If I was honestly going to go after the colors now it would be green, red, blue, black, and then bronze.. in that order.
I want the new Olm too... but I already have like 4-5 birds in my stables... I might have to dump the undead eagle now since there are other ones tameable now on PTR...
I need more slots, because I REALLY like that black and red Windserpent too... gah...
Re: Quick question [PTR]
I did circles for Madexx, but didn't pass up other colors for my blue; the blue was the first one I found (and the one I wanted the most), so I got lucky.
I personally don't really care about whether it's a rarespawn with a unique look. I care about the serendipity of when I found him and, by extension, what he looked like when I found him. He wouldn't mean the same in any other color because he'd not be the same - so if they actually make the common blue a stable color, I'll tame the blue and do my best to pretend there was never a change.
If blue is only available on a color changer, well, bleh. Doesn't really matter that I'll still have a "rare" pet, when it's a color that creeps me out (not my friendly, adorable blue scorpid) - I'll either abandon him or tuck him away in my stables and never use him again, and possibly camp the black instead for a replacement (but it'd be an entirely new pet and personality).
Again, /careface about the rarity. Some of my pets are rare, some are bog-standard "can't throw a rock without hitting 10 of them" normal spawns. I'm attached either way, and I'd be just as sad about losing, say, my brown rhino as I am about losing my blue Madexx.

Brown was the only color I wanted, I would have passed up any others in favor of the yellow scorpid I already had. However this turns out, if there is no stable brown 'madexx' skin after the patch, I'll release the Madexx I have and go back to the yellow scorpid--I really like the original scorpid model as well.Pent wrote:I would like to know how many of you actually started out camping for the blue or brown Madexx and actually passed up taming the other colors just because you wanted one of those two colors?

Re: Quick question [PTR]
I went and started camping for the challenge of it after I saw a pretty blue get killed by a rogue. Ended up getting a green to start. Wasn't too fond of the color and decided to keep looking. Then I found a brown and swaped it for my green as it was at least better and I thought I would quit for awhile.Pent wrote:OK, since I have calmed down a little let me get something off of my chest.

I would be willing to bet that most of you who wanted brown or blue either got them on the first camping trip, or decided that you liked them after taming them and you really didn't care what color you got in the first place.
But then my stubborn streak kicked in. I liked the blue and by dang well I would get the blue if I was going to have one of these guys. I might have settled for the red or black, but blue was my top goal. So I kept on camping. Passed up a green and a brown.. and maybe one other brown but I can't be sure that I didn't hallucinate/dream spotting that one one night as I checked at around 4 am when I woke up on the insistent urge to check on him and log in. ....... Just a tad OCD here when it comes to the hunt at times.

Finally got my blue watched his happy dance and laughed like a loon. He's not my favorite of my tank pets-I'm really fond of my Terror and my Gorebite, though I never thought I would like either of them-but I do really like them. I've never been one for tank pets per se, so I don't use them that often. Terror is usually the tank I keep with me as I love going into camo with him and pretending there is not a smoking, flaming cloud chasing after my toon.... YOU CANT SEEEEEEE MEEEEEEEEEE!
Same though for me its cats not birds. I'll likely drop Hell-Hoot for Olm once I find him. I want one of those wind serpents too. I'm considering dropping my black trex or my Sian-Rotam, as my lowbie hunter now has Echeyakee, but then.. if they were ever going to put Sambas in a different color I could see it happening to Sian, and seeing as he no longer comes when called... Something may be happening to him in the future? Pure speculation and hopeful thinking, of course. Plus he is just too pretty, though I STILL have not come up with a fave name for my Sian.Pent wrote:If I was honestly going to go after the colors now it would be green, red, blue, black, and then bronze.. in that order.Merlynshade wrote:I'm sad that they are changing him to red in that I loose the blue color I so like, but I have not seen the red in person so maybe I will like it.

*shrug* My Undead eagle might be dropped for the black and red wind serpent. At least they are common enough and won't be hard to get to once the patch comes out... I hope.
Re: Quick question [PTR]
Oh god, that is infuriating.
You know, maybe some of us don't want to RP. Maybe we liked the Madexx we tamed. BLIZZARD, STOP CHANGING OUR PETS. Make a rare version, make a common version, whatever. But we tamed the colour we tamed because we wanted the damn colour.
I hate red. Now I have to work out whether I keep my current scorpid who I have bonded with, or tame a new common blue one. And I'm leaning towards the latter but I don't want to tame a new one. I want my original Madexx, called Ruchbah, a blue scorpid that I was fed up with waiting for... I didn't like blue in the first place, but after circling for hours on end, he finally spawned and I grabbed him as a second favourite. I took him away. My bf and I named him together, Ruchbah, after a star. He was our little man and we loved him and so did many in my guild.
Blizz, seriously, ffs. Sometimes you get it right. But sometimes you get it so, so wrong, and it would be VERY nice if you could learn from current mistakes and not continue to make them. Creating a new coloured spawn just means we have to go tame a new spawn. Changing a much-loved pet colour to a new one is just senseless. And I'm worried. What if you suddenly, pointlessly change my #1 pet, the cat I've had for so many years, the cat I've PAID to have for so many years, just like you carelessly reskinned Rak'shiri or Olm? WHY do you have to change a spawn? What, is making a new NPC ID so hard? Does it really take that much effort to keep paying customers happy? Not even that, but these are major changes; many a hunter out there is very very fond of their pets and would be heartbroken should their pet be changed. If my cat was changed I'd probably give up on playing a hunter. He is, with 100% honesty, the one thing that keeps me playing what is a solid dps class that already deals with so much prejudice, horrendously long random queues, and a lack of favour from Blizz via nerfs and buffs. We can hardly get into guilds because hunters are overflowing the game. And now you're taking our pets from us too.
And you know what? Haters going to hate, but seriously, I am 100% within my rights to be pissed off, as is anyone on this thread, so don't tell me to calm down or otherwise try to analyse my annoyance here. Yes I could do any number of things but I don't want to. I want to post in the hope that a dev sees this post along with many others and decides to stop screwing us over and changing our safely stabled pets. I'm not raging at anyone or anything here but Blizzard. Enough is enough, give us a break.

Re: Quick question [PTR]
Hmm, I do have a question to the other PTR testers that are out there that was able to get onto the PTR with their own hunters...
The OP said that their blue Madexx is now red on the PTR, but I never really saw anyone else confirm this or even confirm that the bronze one really changes to green...
Can anyone else confirm the blue to red, and can anyone confirm the bronze to green chnage on the PTR?
I am not saying the OP is lying... I am just more comfortable with more people confirming.
Thanks.

Re: Quick question [PTR]
I would honestly just like to know one thing. Couldn't they change it so the wild Blue/Bronze ones, that aren't rare, have the ID of the current Blue and Bronze Madexx, respectively? That way we end up with stable colors for each, everyone gets to keep the color they tamed, and Blizz can just adjust the spawn table for only three Rare IDs instead of the five.
Edit: To show that I personally don't like Madexx model, and much prefer Deathsting my oldworld Orange/Gray Scorpid, so this is from an outsiders standpoint, not a biased fans standpoint.

I can confirm Madexx changing color (a guy I was chatting to last night had it happen to him) but I *can't* confirm which color it was.
My memory's all gone. He even 'WTF?!' at it. So it is a new thing!

Come see Kurasu's stables!
