Dogs and Foxes PTR Question

Hallo, I can't get on the PTR for whatever reason it might be...

Do Foxes and Dogs now properly have Charge in their talent tree?

Ferocity has it as well, and neither of these families had it with the Pre-Cata patch or the Sundering. Unfortunately I do not have PTR to test, I'm usually not good with testing on the PTR. ;)

Don't think Ferocity really needs it. I think it was intended to be taken out. We have Dash. Just as good.

Charge is also in the Ferocity tree with the exception of Foxes and Dogs.

Hm. Wouldn't know. I never use it as the BM WHU Build doesn't use/recommend it for dungeons and raiding.

TBH I switch it up with pets. Sometimes I'll go with the stam or Health talent, then put my point in Charge, as it does add damage to the first attack, but on other fer. pets I go with dash and put the point from Charge into HotP. It's trading one survivability point for another, as having both drains focus b/c pets will use charge, then waste even more focus by casting dash once they reach their target. Basically, whichever you use, you don't lose damage. With Cats I use dash b/c it doesn't break stealth/the damage boost to first attack, but on my wolf I use charge for the damage buff it gives and just skipped out on HotP. with that floater point there really isn't anywhere to put it that adds dps.

It's a small boost to damage, but really nice for PvP because of the immobilization.

TBH, I quite like Charge. I just turn it or Dash off if I don't want them to be using it. ;)

Anyhow, yes. I don't know about dogs, but foxes now have Charge.

I ALWAYS spec Charge in my Ferocity pets. Small damage bonus, and not better applicable elsewhere (at least not as BM). Most of the 'site-recommended' specs clearly miss important talents anyway; sometimes I think they just slap them together :lol:

In any case, yes. The dog I just tamed to test definitely has Charge, and I'm fairly certain the fox did too.

(In other news, non-flying Cunning pets can get Mobility now--not sure if that was in patch notes, but it's fixed on PTR.)

Just make sure your pet isn't using Dash and Charge (65 focus expended before any damage is done), and you should be fine. I think the issue is that putting a point into Dash doesn't involve taking a point away from a DPS talent (only two DPS talents in that first tier), while Charge does. However, I think that putting a point into Charge and taking Dash off autocast won't be a problem if you're BM.

Also, /cheer at Mobility getting fixed!

Yup, you wind up with ~75 focus left by the time the pet reaches the mob as BM (with me at least, considering focus regen after having used Sprint & running a bit). So watching/toggling abilities at all times is pretty much a must--that said, mine usually regen it quick enough that you can't tell.

But yeah--I don't know about how many points Surv/MM have to allocate, but I don't think Charge is to be knocked at all. And for PvP, it's a must!!

17 points. They don't have much wiggle room, as they still have room in Wild Hunt and/or Shark Attack for more points to be spent. If you ask me, taking a point from Bloodthirsty and moving it to Charge wouldn't be too bad of an idea, given our new & improved Mend Pet.

I tend to shy away from recommending this, because I don't want a hunter who takes my advise to kill their Wild Hunt ability by the careless use of Charge and Dash.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see what dps talent you could be losing by taking charge over Dash. As far as I know, I can get either, and still have all the talents I need for the must have dps talents. The same dilemma occurred with the New Wild hunt. People weren't sure if it was a gain or not, but once they realized it was, and that there was no other dps talents to be placed, it became standard build.

Once you get 4/4 for the bottom tier talents you should have one floater point to put pretty much anywhere you want, maybe even two, I use this point either for Charge (if I don't have dash) or HotP if I do have dash.

That would be because you're a Beast Master, with 21 pet talent points to spend instead of 17 ;)

I'm mostly referring to this post, in which BM is specifically stated. ;)

But yes, if I were to use a 17 point spec I would not use charge. Dash would have to do.

The only reasons you have charge in beast mastery is to get Kill Command off faster and to re-engage the mob faster. Ideally, Kill Command would automatically cause your pet to Charge the target (without the immobilization or bonus attack power if that's too unbalanced) and do it's damage once the pet gets there so you don't have to wait till your pet gets in melee range (since pets are a huge source of our damage), but that's not the case, so charge will have to do.
