My new kitten!

Unread post by Murlord »

I got a kitten a while ago, from a friend of a friend, who's cat had had a littler of kittens and she was giving them away! Decided it was time to get another cat, and this one just latched right onto my heart. Decided to call her "Margie" in homage of my former director, Margie Turner. She's quite a lot like her namesake, she'll bite you if you screw around too much xD

The quality of those images isn't that good, because I took them with my phone. She's a fair bit bigger now than she is in those photo's.

She mainly sleeps in my bedroom, on my computer chair (It's quite fluffy and warm) I'm still feeding her milk, because apparently I should be (She's only 2 months old. Maybe a bit more, the former owner was a little vague) And I also feed her 0-12 month wet kitten food, and dry when I run out, but I usually only feed her the wet food. Any advice for general things for kittens would be nice, because this is the first time i've had one of my own (My mother had a cat when I was growing up) I've gotten her a scratching post, with this little ball thing on the top and she plays with these ping pong balls that I bought for her.

She uses her litter just fine (First day I bought her home she used it without needing to be trained, and she didn't have one back where she came from, lucky me) And I use this rather earthy smelling litter. I want to know if it's ok for me to move the litter box suddenly, because I had it near the door to my verandah but a bit of the smell still wafts around the room after a day or two and it gets a little annoying. So yeah, general advice on anything would be nice!

Cheers!

Are you feeding her kitten formula? Is that what you mean by milk? You shouldn't feed her cow milk, it can upset their tummies.

I think it's ok to move the box, as long as you show her where it is. Scoop it often, cats like a clean toilet.

And congrats, she's adorable. :)

Oh yes, kitten formula. Got given a fair amount of it from a friend. I scoop out her business every evening, but I only change the whole box every 5-6 days.

Ah, you should probably switch to feeding her mostly dry food, it's much healthier for cats than the wet one, or so I hear. I'm a bit sad about it, because my kitties love the wet one and they're only allowed to have it once a day.
I'm slightly concerned, 2 months is a little early to be taken from the mommy. I hope you're showing her much love, because she might get a little lonely.
If she ever peeks in the bathroom, remember to cover the toilet, so she wouldn't pick up a habit of drinking from there lol.
Be careful with small things, kittens, just like human babies tend to try eating stuff, so choking hazard applies to them as well.
If she finds your electric cables interesting, consider hiding them or getting some sort of cover for them, like those tubes used to keep all the cables in place, so she wouldn't bite them and get electrocuted.
Maybe get a kitty brush and try combing her sometimes, it helps reducing fur balls and she'll leave less fur around your house. And most cats really love being brushed.

She's really adorable, good luck to you and Margie! :)

You definitely want a dry kitten food for her. Wet food is good usually when an animal is ill or under weight. If you're going to feed a wet or even moist food start training her to accept having her little kitty teeth brushed.
Make sure she visits a good mammal vet asap and start her on her shots or at least with a good check up. As long as the small one is over 8 weeks old and weened she'll have no problems being separated from mom.
Stock up on lots of toys!!! Not all cat toys cost money. Like a paper bag or rolled up ball of aluminum foil and such just of course make sure none can be swallowed.

The key to a healthy kitty is a good food! Just as with people food there is crappy food on the market claiming to be "healthy" when it's not. Cats are true carnivores rarely eating anything but meat so why are most 'good' cat foods made up of wheats and grains as the first 5-10 ingrediants. Any way. I really don't need to bore with that. One of the best brands on the market for the cheapest price is Blue Buffalo. I will never use another kitten /cat food again after vets I know recommending it.

But yeah. Finger is sore now. On my phone. Lmao
She is very cute and so sweet.
